Hey guys and gals
Im trying to organise a trip to Phillip Island late March/April 2008, but while doing research for that i noticed something pretty cool - there's a 6 hour relay at PI around September
It runs the same (well, sort of) as dial-your-time style drags, eg you state your lap time and if your team is the most consistent you win! Teams can have up to 6 cars and entry costs are around $200 per driver. Each driver does a set time then comes in (eg, car 1 does 8 laps then pits and car 2 does 8 laps then pits then car 3 does 8 laps etc) for a cool down before going again
Its run over 2 days so this is definatly a 4 day trip for anyone from NSW:
Day one drive to PI, check in to accomodation, get drunk
Day two practice laps etc
Day three 6 hour timed relay, get REALLY drunk
Day four drive home to Sydney
There's 40 team places to fill, the last one filled out quickly so lets see if this is a go-er or not asap
Entry includes a garage, individual timers can be rented on the day for $10 each (prior notice is required), must be a CAMS club member (eg SAUNSW)
Pit crew are encouraged to come along to change tyres and talk shit etc, from what i gather, the pitcrew get a really good weekend for cheap
Here's what PI looks like:
Here's a worst case guide to the outlay for a trip like this:
Accomodation: $200 (for whole time, renting one large house with many rooms based on 6 people going, if spectators go it will drop the price quickly)
Fuel (highway): $200 each way MAX - well, depends on your car/tune etc
Fuel (track): cant say, id estimate to get change from $300 for my gtr, again depends on cars
Entry: $205 each
Alcohol: say $80, bring it with you
Food: $100
So total worst case is around $1000 for the whole thing. From the DECA trips (long weekend trips to Victoria) i know some of those numbers are bigger than they will be in reality but worst case is best to work from
Considering its a long way away (September 2008), if spending $1000 over 4 days seems like a lot to you (everyone has their own financial situations) id suggest putting $25 per week away from your weekly pay and by the time it comes to the weekend you will be able to afford it easily
Remember this isnt a HP battle, consistancy wins
Paperwork needed: CAMS L2S and a CAMS club card (SAUNSW will do, i can sign people up for that prior to departure)

So.......who's seriously interested?
