  1. Maybe your car is tuned to do well at top end?
  2. MarchGTR was talking about a GTR not a GTST. i.e. All wheel drive advantage on launches. True, I can only rev my car up to 6600rpm.
  3. Don't be too sure! Tomaz, congrats on your buy. No mucking around for you eh? I like your attitude in regards to thinking that you're not invincible. It's better to think you will lose and when you win you'll get a pleasant surprise.
  4. No need to be sorry about my tyres. It was charged on my fleet card. Admin had a chat with me a few days later because I only had the car for 2 months. Had to explain that they were bald when I purchased it. I had the pirelli's but went with the Good year 245/35 F1's cos I hear they are good in the wet.
  5. Can't Ferni. I got a fishing trip that long weekend up in nsw. What's wrong with your msn?
  6. Hi mate. Yeah car is all well and good. Finally got the car tinted and had to replace all 4 tyres. 2 back ones were completely worn out due to the media abuse. The car is build no. 003 and was a journo car so it's been around the bush. $2000 for a set of 19 inch tyres was a bit much though. Also tint professor sux. Cheap at 250 but I had 2 spears, one on each of the front windows. One spear didn't go away so I had to get it redone. Another spear popped up and I had to keep pushing it down till it completely dryed out. Good service but bad quality for anyone who's interested. I'll like to come to track. Post me next time you go and I'll tag along just to spectate.
  7. There was a link to a clip of the Supra vs LS2. Did you see it? That was taken to the end of 3rd gear. Need to take the car to a track if I want to get a vid of my car pushing that hard. Too risky on the street.
  8. Most people would probably agree with you in regards to the 400m as being the better indicator of a cars overall performance. But 0-100km/h is more real world relevant. In my opinion it's a good indicator of a cars ease of accelleration as a daily driver off the track. Quick car you have there.
  9. Yeah they are pricey. 61K for base model HSV. It was too much for me to buy new so I bought mine 2nd hand. In my opinion, the 2 big aussies have gone a long way in performance terms. So just think in 4 years times when it'll be common for all holdens to come standard with 300kw. You guys will probably still be driving the same R34 GTT's, 180's, S15's etc and will find it harder to get your wins. Even now a standard V8 SS has 255kw. That's just about the same as a 2002 model HSV VY with 260kw of power. In a few years time it's gonna be harder running away from a V8 SS cop car.
  10. I agree with your first point about a car being fit for purpose. Your 2nd point. Maybe you're right but 15 years on I wonder how many lemons are out there? For every good GTR that manages to run those times there's a lemon somewhere. My friend managed to get one of these lemons recently. As for the Aus spec S15 being a 5.5 sec 0-100km'h car. I do not think so! Definitely not a stock one. They are more like a 6.3-6.5 sec car. I did multiple runs in my S15 when I had it and when it was stock it managed to get anywhere between 6.3 and 6.9. After putting a cat back exhaust I managed to get 5.8sec once! Where are you getting these performance times from anyway? I'm not going to try and argue about your last point.
  11. My car is a 6 speed manual. The in car footage of the run I posted was done with a passenger. I went for another run on thursday night as I had the new remus cat back system fitted. Just wanted to see if there was any difference made. I did 4 runs. Out of the 4, 2 of them I managed to get 5.22 and 5.3 seconds. The other 2 runs I got 5.6 and 5.7s as the wheels were spinning on launch. This was with traction control on. This was all done without reving the engine at all. I've had one experience with a skyline GTST R33 with turbo back exhaust on a private road of course. He had a good launch so stuck with me initially but when I hit the edge of 1st gear it was over. Maybe because he had to change gears whilst I was still in first and didn't have to change to 2nd until 80km/h. I Just kept moving away after that. We ran a few times and we ended up chatting. He was quite impressed. I have those runs on video if anyone is interested. Post me. As for the gear shift, it's hard to compare them with the smaller jap cars. The S15 was such a quick easy shifter compared to this one. For a big car, it shifts quite well. I've gotten used to it. I posted the same vid in the ls1 forum and everyone thought that the 'loss of traction' animation was a dancing clown! hahaha You guys have made the same mistake. It's actually a car fishtailing. At 6500 rpms the gear shift image appears also. I've just seen Ferni's in car footage of his GTR. That thing is a rocket. I really appreciate them now. Just the way they launch. I wouldn't want to take on a modded GTR that dumps the clutch at 7000rpm.
  12. Please elaborate. I don't completely get what you're trying to say but I'll have a guess. Are you saying that everyone who has replied in this thread are self centered? If you read my initial post I did ask Gtst and GTR owners for their opinion of their car so shouldn't you expect them to reply comparing their rides with mine? All I get from reading the responses from this thread is that everyone is willing to talk civily about the cars that interest them. Most people who go to these type of forums have a passion for their rides and it shouldn't be a surprise to you that they like to talk about them. This thread has not turned into a bitching session so would you rather read posts that just attack people? Sorry if I've interpreted what you've said incorrectlly.
  13. No way I would buy one of these if I had to organise insurance for myself. It's all done through my company. It's called a novated lease. I sacrifice a portion of my salary otherwise known as car allowance and then I get all expenses paid for. I'm given a fleet card which I pay for all my maintenance/petrol/parts with. As for insurance, my company pays for that so it's a bonus Good thing about the deal is that the money I sacrifice is taken from pre tax dollars. Yes. I'm a lucky bastard.
  14. I wonder how you'll go geting a quote from a insurance company for a 4 door GTR that doesn't exist from factory.
  15. I didn't realise GTR R34's come in 4 doors. It would look funny seeing a GTR towing a boat. To me, my current ride satisfies both worlds fairly well. Still has speed and heaps of practicality.
  16. If it wasn't for my lifestyle and needs I would of purchased a STI, evo, or GTR. Everyone loves small sports cars when they are young and don't need to take the boat, trailer and 4 passengers.
  17. hahaha Then how come your clutch busted in 3rd gear? Yeah I do realise GTR's are all wheel drive. I've been in my friends R33 GTr and he said that it is not a true 4wd however it comes into effect when it senses you need it. I don't know. Just what he said.
  18. Damn, dumping the clutch at 7000rpm. No wonder you get such a huge jump ahead at starts. That's gotta hurt. Don't you get concerned when you smell the burnt clutch coming from your air vents? If I ever do join you guys on a cruise, I'll be more than happy to take decent SAU members for a little spin. At least you guys can experience these cars so that you will be more informed next time you decide to make any critisms. I had a pleasant surprise when I went for a test drive in the F6 Typhoon, FPV GT, and clubsport after hopping out of my little S15.
  19. I was quite dissapointed. Only 4 or 5rwkw more. The guy told me to drive it around to get the computer to update itself so I'll be in next week to have another go to see if it improves. It's just a catback system. No extractors yet.
  20. I just went to the airpowersystems site. Phase 2 is meant to be 330fwkw. You must of bought the aps kit 2nd hand because 2K wont even buy you the phase 1 kit.
  21. 2K for 300rwkw? Gees that's hard to believe. An APS phase 2 kit cost at least 5K and they claim it delievers 330kw at the fly. So i'm guessing you'll get 270rwkw from that. There's a guy on XR6T forum that does 11.5 1/4 miles and I'm sure he's spent at least 5K doing it up so 5K for 10 sec passes is hard to believe. Don't you need to change injectors(1K+) edit+tune (1K+) There's already 2K. But then again you are doing everything yourself so you are saving a fair bit of money whereas most other people just give the car to someone else for them to do the work. That's where the $$$ come into play.
  22. I always drive with traction control on. Even with the traction control on, if I drop the clutch and step on the throttle hard I can still manage to get the wheels to spin. It's quite a subtle traction control system but very good. Doesn't completely cut off the power. Just enough to gain traction I guess. LS1 is the standard v8 engine that are in the VT series 2 and later. The old engines used to be 5 litres but the ls1 is 5.7l. The LS2 is 6 litres and evidence seems to show that the LS2 engine has better low down power compared to the LS1 so take off should be better. As for the FPV GT, from what I've read in MOTOR you have to rev those engine higher when you want to launch it well. Maybe you are referring to the XR6T. Here are some pics. The last photo was taken today as I just got a remus exhaust system fitted and dynoed. Sounds beefy:
