But basically besides what Steve has justy mentioned, you have alot of variables here u havent told us like what u want out of it and how much u want to spend... Considering u put steel/alluminium wheels back in this straight away introduces lag because of the increased weight. The ball bearing cores dont seem to be rebuildable! Even tho ppl say they are, what they usually do is bolt your covers and new wheels onto a new core!

Also your oxygen sensor acts below a certain RPM to recalculate A/Fs as well as your afm. Not good running your car for ANY amount of time with the afm disconnected..Your car would be going lean rich lean rich, probably why it wouldnt go past 2500 is because your mixtures were that far out it couldnt run your car! You can reset your ecu with safc still connected it shouldnt make any difference at all

I agree with Sydney in a way although i dont see RB20s make the same power as the 25s with same mods....no way! Although they keep up because of their lower weight this is where u fit in and i think an Rb20 will suit u fine and specially with the lower costs.... But hell.....SR20s Have made me piss so i personally would concentrate on working with your engine to make it stronger instead of putting in a half bodged one from another car!

Your on the right track, AFM, altho a SAFC isnt going to help if your AFM is dud. Smelling fumes in cab isnt good.....Thought about and exhaust failure? Cat blockage or maybe steel fibre has come away from a muffler, trying to eliminate things here.... Yeah like the other guys said....Anything to do with feul changing....Pump Injectors(done) Idle air valve, Idle stepper motor, Intake air leaks....hhhhmmmm the symptoms are pretty weird tho maybe there is just a gremlin in there n u have to get him out!!!
