Commodore Is Not The Best Car Ever
The Baron replied to craig V8 taffe's topic in General Automotive Discussion
Hmmmmm that profile certainly doesn't match what I saw.... Maybe it was a Statesman mule - it was Left Hand Drive after all - so it didn't have Holden insignia or name badge. But trust me - it had a HUGE rear end. -
Commodore Is Not The Best Car Ever
The Baron replied to craig V8 taffe's topic in General Automotive Discussion
Okay - so I work for the competition - but the new Camry is an awful lot more like Australia's next family car then the Commodore VE. Saw the V8 in the flesh in Prahran on Saturday - quad pipes and V8 but also an enormous Arse end overhang compared to a very short snout - did not like it one bit. Holden have bet on the wronf horse with the new Commodore - it's a car for a different time when petrol was 80c a litre. -
As it is anchored off the NT we can have a Tsunami that causes it to flip over and the survivors have to climb around to try and find an exit at the bottom of the ship before it sinks. The survivors then get swept to a small uninhabited island where they discover their love for one another 'Blue Lagoon' style. The the ghostly Davey Jones comes to reap their souls (only added that to use the pirate smiley)

Excellent, was sure something like that was in the Constitution Ohhh - and I think the behaviour itself was ofcourse stupid - my initial post was more about club responsibilities in this case.
-
Doesn't the old Gibson Racing Team Engineer (some guy with a german sounding name) now run his own Performance Shop in Melbourne (Hyperdrive, Hypertec, Hypersomething....??) I am certain he would know about the Group A specs.
-
Even though the car had SAU stickers - are we sure the owner was a member or did he buy the car off a club member without removing the stickers ?? Maybe it should become practice when selling your car to remove the SAU sticker unless the new owner is also a member. Ofcourse if the driver was part of SAU - maybe he should reconsider the type of club he has joined. Membership carries benefits but also responsibilities - those who do no abide by the club rules/policies (which may need to be written/broadcast) should therefore forfeit their right to membership JUst my 2c As for 'fritter' - nuff said really

BTW If you don't mind me asking, who are using for compliance and how much is it costing you ?? pm me if this is too private (or ignore me if you don't want to say ;-) I'd just like to get an idea for my own budget

Saw this as it came through the auctions - was tempted - still waiting on other stuff though. Glad to see it's made it to Melbourne

Dangerous Driving Nonsense
The Baron replied to (OO_The4door_OO)'s topic in General Automotive Discussion
Haven't read all the guff in the middle but basically.... 116 in a 60 zone is just plain stupid - regardless of time traffic conditions etc. (Heck philosophically your argument would extend to driving drunk, drug f*cked etc on the same premise that it was okay because there was no-one around) As for driver training - I fully agree that it is way too easy to get a licence in Oz and better training would certainly lower the road toll. however in response to banning low performance drivers rather then high performance cars - it is worthwhile to note that the High performance car is only safe when it is roadworthy and the number of vehicles that aren't is ridiculous. In my opinion, all cars should be subject to an annual inspection as part of registration - just like Germany. As for speed limits, please keep in mind that it is possible to have high speed motorways only if you spend enough on the road surface to prevent it from being damaged by such high speed traffic (an Autobahn is built dramatically differently from the Hume) - unfortunately the distances in Australia make this impractical. (Note The NT can get away with it due to low traffic volume ;-) There's my 2c -
I can honestly say never to have had an issue with the police in my 18 (cough) years of driving. Been pulled over plenty of times in plenty of cars. When I was speeding I got fined, when I was talking on the mobile, I got fined - all my own fault. Yet I've never been 'harassed' by a cop. I tend to find that a pleasant demenaour and a respect for the uniform and job that they are doing does wonders in appeasing them. This means when you get pulled over, you have your licence ready, you turn down your stereo, you put out your cigarette and roll down your window and then interact courteously with the copper. It doesn't mean 'kissing ass' just common courtesy. Ohh and it helps not to have an unroadworthy or unregistered car Just my 2c

Also saw this at SSV- Mark was trying to get me to have a look at it but alas it's a GT-R or bust for me ;-) Have a lot of fun it

Oleeee Oleeee OleOleeee - Aussieeee Ausssieee Was cursing like a trooper between minutes 26 and 84 but what a comeback !!!! Why didn't we bring on a couple of those guys earlier - or better yet, play with two dedicated strikers from the start ?? What a HUGE result (admittedly gotta keep it a bit quiet - the bosses here at Toyota are somewhat ambivolent about their loyalties at times ) Ohhh and 'Go Germany'

What's A Good Set Of Numbers ?
The Baron replied to The Baron's topic in R Series (R30, R31, R32, R33, R34)
Thank you muchly. Must remember RTFM -
Just a question for the forums. What is a good set of numbers for an RB 26 on leakdown / compression tests. i.e if someone says 145 is that good - average - bad ?? Some guidance or reference for a 'mechanically challenged' mind would be appreciated

Thanks - well done

ahem - I used the term 'racial' quite deliberately as opposed to 'racist' (BTW I am neither of Middle Eastern Origin nor from Sydney ;-) however the 'slant' of the TT story was very clearly that it was people of Middle Eastern Origin who were 'Hoons' and the use of the MEO squad was incorporated into the story to support this argument. Personally I have no issues with dedicated police units for dedicated tasks. In terms of achieving a good level of understanding, particularly with respect to different cultures and their attitudes to policing, as well as to facilitate in simple things like language, I think it is very important to have units like an 'Asian' squad (as we've had here in Victoria) and I firmly believe that the police by and by do an excellent job and are generally tolerant and fair people a view supported by my observations of several of my friends who are in the force. I guess my argument is, that if you are doing a story in illegally modified cars, the 'Traffic Operations Group' would have been a more suitable Police Squad to incorporate into the story. So I am not having a go at the Police - my aim is squarely on the editing / reporting policies of TT
-
Definitely a 'racial' police squad - quite detailed description given....
-
Anyone catch it last night ?? Standard TT crap about people and their unsafe modified cars in Sydney (with blatantly racist overtones by including references to the 'Middle Eastern Operations' Squad - i.e. Hoons = Muslim ) But that wasn't the really annoying thing. Rather at the start they showed a maroon R-32 GT-R doing some circle work with the clear implication that this was an example of unsafe 'hoon' behaviour. Yet from the background I am fairly certain that this footage was taken on a race track or skid pan during a track day/motorkhana etc. consequently it was not illegal, nor unsafe !! This therefore misrepresents us and our cars and our behaviour quite dramatically and I have a good mind to write to Channel 7 and or Mediawatch to ask them where they sourced their footage. It's just not right to imply that the behaviour shown in that sequence was in any form illegal or 'hoon' like but rather the exact opposite , namely car enthusiasts doing the right thing by taking their vehicles off the road into a controlled environment in order to undertake this bahaviour safely. Thoughts / Comments ??

[vic] Modified 1990 R32 Gtr Awesome Car, Good Mods
The Baron replied to Z1LLA's topic in For Sale (Private Whole cars only)
WTF Why are there all of a sudden so many good looking/condition 32's on sale ?? Together with KBNR32's these must be two of the finest examples that have come up in Melbourne recently. Couldn't you guys have waited a couple of months Good luck with the sale and I'll keep tabs on it to see how it goes - who knows it may still be around when my 'buying time' comes -
Don't tease (tempt)
-
Definitely serious and definitely interested - however my timeline is the problem. Currently finishing a house - should be moving in two weeks time(admittedly been saying that for a couple of weeks now - but this time I am assured i'll get me certificate of occupancy) and then a little bit of reorganising and then GT-R hunting ;-) Realistically we are looking at 2 months minimum. However I will definitely keep your mobile number as well as a tab on this thread - if it's still up at that time - who knows. Honestly - part of me wants you to sell - the other part doesn't ;-) Appreciate the offer for a look by the way ;-)

Environmental engineer for Toyota - for the past 7 years Have just traded my Corolla Sportivo for a Yaris (a drop of 70 kW) so that I can keep balanced GHG emissions when I buy the GT-R

The Baron replied to Meiji's topic in Importing, Compliance, Modification Laws & Regulations
Thank you muchly ;-)
