  1. Yeah, that is good stuff... I was just making sure that it's still the best stuff to use for a new box as I tend to hear of people using it when their gearboxes get lazy syncros....
  2. I have just rebuilt my gearbox and the guys I have been speaking to say that it can be 'hot spots' on the flywheel. Get your flywheel machined and see what happens. Only problem is that if the hot spots are fairly bad, then the hot spots will come back because the hot spots change the form of the material of the flywheel. After saying that, I have had mates with Exedy clutches like mine was and they have been known to give bad clutch shudder. I have since brought the 'full monty' clutch kit from Jim Berry in QLD. Had it shipped to me here in Melbourne. 3100lb plate pressure. Gret clutch. Jim assures me that I will not get clutch shudder so I will see how I go. It can be quite common to get clutch shudder with performance clutches though guys, sometimes we just have to put up with things like this if we want the hi performance bits and pieces... Anyboody else having these issues??
  3. Hi all, I've just spent some coin on getting my gearbox rebuilt for my R33 turbs.... I'm about to put it in and was wanting to know if anyone has any thoughts on what oil is best to throw in there when I engage the gears for the first time. Thanks in advance....
  4. Hi all, This is weird.. When I push my foot down on the clutch, about 3/4 of the way down, the tempreture gauge flickers up and down!! I've checked everywhere and I'm guessing that there is a short somewhere but is there anyone out there that would know what this could be?? Any automotive sparkies out there maybe??
  5. Mate, I've just got a clutch kit from Jim Berry in QLD. He delivers for free and his clutches are awesome!! Do a search on the forums for jim berry.... People rave about his clutches and if you call the guy himself, he is a wealth of knowledge...
  6. Hi mate, I just took my gearbox out and had the same problem. Obviously to support the engine in position, I had a jack under it and I just had to lower the engine down a bit so it changed the angle a bit, the box them just shuffled right on out... I'm more worried about getting the bugger back in!! I've done it once before and it's a real pain... Goodluck mate...
  7. I'm trying to source the outer sliding hub for gears 1-2 and 2-3... Nissan don't make them anymore for my car. I have the R33 RB25DET S1 Anyone familiar with these parts and how I can get my hands on them? Any help would be appreciated....
  8. Hi all, My R33 RB25DET S1 gearbox is all apart at Fitzerald racing and aparently I need to replace the 1-2 gear OUTER SLIDING HUB and the 3-4 gear OUTER SLIDING HUB. Can anybody help me out with this or can you put me onto someone who might have them? Even second hand in decent condition is fine... I'm in a world of hurt... I can use a part from a later model but then I have to use different syncros and many many other parts need to be changed. If anyone can tell me otherwise, I would be more then happpy to hear from you. Thanks,
  9. Thanks mate... I have got some quotes but I know one of the guys there and work with his son so I have complete trust in them. I'm the sort of guy that would pay a bit more knowing that the job will get done well and I suppose I know the work they do on racing cars is awesome. I suppose time will tell, fingers crossed. thanks for your info though mate. Once again, if anyone has rebuilt their box themself, let me know how you went. Cheers
  10. Hi all, I just ordered my parts for my gearbox for my R33 RB25DET. I pulled the box apart and determined that nearly all the syncros worn.. (yeah I know, it suprised me too) 1-2 as always, was the worst. I brought all 6 syncros ( 1-2 and 2-3 are dual syncros for those who didn't know), I brought all new bearings and seals. In total, it cost me $1380. Not cheap but expected. I have my gearbox going into fitzgerald racing here in Box Hill Victoria. They are very good and come highly recommended. I will keep you all posted on how the rebuild goes and how much it ends up costing me. I've also rebuilt my engine myself last year which was an experience... forged pistons, etc... If anyone has any questions, feel free to ask. Has anybody rebuilt their gearbox themself? If so, how easy or hard was it? I'm thinking of giving it a go myself after a successful engine rebuild.
  11. OMG... what's the chances.... hehe... how ya doing mate? Is your box givin you grief?? Hehe... My girlfriends box is giving me grief, it's too tight!! Hehe.. what's happening?
  12. Hi buddy, yeah, i rebuilt the engine myself with forgies, etc... it was an awesome experience. My box needs doing now also. I am from SA and have just moved to Melb 2 years ago. the syncros are getting lazy. I would be very careful about going to a place that gives you a quote before even opening up your tranny to see what is wrong with it mate. Have they checked out the box at all yet? If they have quoted you on replacing syncros and bearings and that is including parts, then that is a good price but go to a place with a good reputation because there are a hell of a lot of parts in a tranny and if they get one wrong, your box could be useless.
  13. Hi there, I have an R33 Turbs too. Just rebuilt the engine and I'm also looking for parts to rebuild my tranny. i'm actually pulling it out tomorrow. Have you had any luck finding any parts yet? I believe that syncros are not that readily available from a lot of places and Nissan may be the best place to get them, if not, the only place. have you had a price on any of the parts from Nissan yet??
  14. Hi mate, Not sure if ths is any help but I have a standard Head gasket brand new, never used...
  15. Mate, welcome to the world of forced induction... that's about as good as it gets standard.. Mines fairly stock with a couple of pounds extra boost and a high flow turbs and I'm lucky to see 400clicks...
  16. yeah, thanks.. I'll give it a go.. Doesn't sound like injectors but I'm open to suggestions and trying anything to resolve this at this stage. Thanks mate..
  17. Well, I thought that as well.. maybe... I just think that piston slap would be a deeper, heavier knock where as this knock is quick light and tappy... hhmmm..... dunno.. anyone else??
  18. Hi all, Now, you have probably heard of posts saying... "Ohh, my engine taps, what is it?" Now, this is different.. I've rebuilt my engine and it's got Forgies in it.. did it all properly. Got pro to bore block, balance parts, etc... spent some coin doing it.. anyway, when I start my car, i get a tapping noise coming from it. I first thought the hyd lifters were shot because they were the only thing I didn't replace with the rebuild. I have since put in near new lifters and it still does it! What could this be? I thougt of piston knock but it sounds to be coming from upper end.. not 100% though.. very hard to tell.. Is it possible of worn lobes on the cams? Only does it while engine is cold and when it's half cold half warm, if I drive it, it tapes at 2grand and not on either side... when stone cold, taps all the way through the range. the engine runs great and doesn't blow smoke.. has good power and I've done about 25,000 since build.. Any fresh ideas people?? thanks,
  19. Hi and congrats on your purchase.. I have an R33 and love it.. I've just rebuilt my engine myself and it was a great experience. Id do it again. - You really should be changing some things under the bonnet by now if the previous owner hasn't already done so. Your Skyline doesn't actually have a timing chain, just a belt. You can pick one of those up from anywhere between $100 - $400.. You don't have to spend $400 though. I brought the Greddy timing belt online from Nugen for $114.. A good belt. -Get someone or yourself to check the spark plugs as well... they will prob need changing. if you decide to change them, put in some decent ones as the spark plugs are a little more time consuming to get to on the Skylines compared to your average car. -Check your oil and coolent as well.. Your coolent should be a nice (alomst flouresant) green and if the oil is black black and seems to be thining, then you should probably change it as well. Because you probably don't know the service history 100%, I'd do all of these just so you have a service point which you can work with. Don't forget to change the oil filter when you change the oil.... -Maybe someone can clarify this for me but I'm pretty sure that they recommend a water pump change as well... Probably don't HAVE to but they may recommend it if you ask.... This is what I wold do if I were in your position. Go and get some professional advice if you like but a lot of your everyday mechanics don't seem to know much, if anything about Skylines.. You could always find someone who specialises in Skylines, etc.. Check out the forums.. there is heaps of info here to help you out. GOOD LUCK!!
  20. like I said, IN MOST CASES... not all.. read the post...
  21. Hi all.. throw your Gates away! I put one in after rebuilding my engine myself. I made sure my belt was not too tight and it still makes the whinning noise.... It doesn't matter what tension you put on these belts, most of the time, you will experience this humming with these belts... I've done 25,000kms on this rebuilt engine and it still humms.. I've loosened the tension twice with no improvement. Although the general rule of thumb would tell you that tightening a belt too much can make it whine, this is not the case with these belts. If anyone trys to tell you that your whinning is because your Gates timing belt is too tight, then they obviously have never used one! Just my 2 cents... I've since put in a Greddy belt and it's quiet as... very happy... only $114 too!
  22. Hi all, I've got this nasty vibration between 1500 and 2000RPM and I'm wondering if a stuffed gearbox can caus this?? Is there anything in there that will caus this vibration/noise? It sounds like a million heatshields are loose.... The box is old.. my syncros are starting to go as well... Any help would be great... Thanks,
  23. Mate, sounds like your timing belt is too tight... you had better loosen that sucker because if they are too tight, they can snap! then you'll be pulling your engine apart to replace bent valves, etc... The heat makes the belt even tighter so be careful. what are you talking about with the Distributer?? bent cam?? I don't think so... Are you talking about the CAS on the front of the exhuast cam??
  24. Hi guys, An update, I took my car into a workshop to get some new tranny oil put in.. It seems to have made the vibration a little bit better but not much. The guys there seem to think it's coming from inside the transmission. My tranny is old and they said something about the bearings needing replacing so I'm now looking for a good tranny, hopefully from an R34! I will have to find out if they are compatible. Does anybody know if they are???
