  1. Hi all, Does anybody know where I can get my hands on a power steering pump for the RB25DET? I'm in Melbourne... Wreckers?
  2. Have tried everything you mentioned but taking the belt off... I will try that tomorrow.. I think I may be up for another pump though... Can you recon these things???
  3. Hi all... Got a nasty grinding noise coming from the power steering pump.. The levels are full and it's only done it since I've put the motor back in and put the belt back on too tight!! Anyone know of this problem or can shed some light on this for me please??
  4. Yeah, checked all.. seems ok... I'm not sure if and how air got into the line... I haven't taken it apart at all... weird.. maybe the move stuffed it......
  5. Hi all, I've just recently rebuilt my RB25DET and put the engine in the other night.. When I fired up the engine, it all worked fine except the power steering doesn't work at all!! I obviously hooked up the belt and when I start the engine, I can see the power steering fluid bubbling (seems like air) when I start the engine. What is wrong? Can over tightening the belt caus any problems??
  6. does anybody know the purpose of the pilot bush that taps into the back of the crank before fitting the clutch? Where can I get one of these??
  7. Hi all, Just wanted some opinions on how to run in my motor. I've just finished building it and will be putting the engine back in this week. My machinist told me not to rev it hard but to load it up so that the rings bed in nicely. He said to find a good hill and to load it up to 2 grand in 2nd, 3rd, 4th, etc... with foot to the floor but to make sure not to go past 2 grand.. Does this sound about right?
  8. Well... I could have got a pro to build my engine but you don't have to be a genius to do it... There have been a couple of minor problems that I've come across and have wanted to make sure about (ie, these head studs) but apart from that, I have doone my homework and have been researching this build for months before I took it on board so yes, I am extremely happy that I have done this myself.. it's been a great experience and have learnt alot. I would do it again and as they say.... you only live once! I've always wanted to try it and now I have.. This is what it's all about.. I also saved myself $1,000's in labour....
  9. Thanks guys.. So many different opinions... I've been told from 2.5 ltrs to 4-5 ltrs!! Who is right and who is wrong!? Surely someone knows..... There's no way it will hold 4-5 litres... It has to be less then that...
  10. Got a genuine RB25DET head gasket I brought from Nissan but didn't end up using it. I paid about $127 for it and will sell it for $70..... Let me know if interested. PM me or call me on 0405577855. Pickup preferred but will post at buyers risk. In Melbourne
  11. Hi all... How much trans fluid does the 5 speed manual for the RB25DET hold?? I just don't want to buy too much as it's damn expensive!
  12. All this advice sounds about right but the water pump itself has 10 bolts on it. There are two different size bolt heads. I'm just in the process of putting my motor back together after a complete rebuild and just put the waterpump back on. Obviously, you'll need another gasket for your water pump before you put the new one back on. The water pumps aren't expensive to buy. When I went to Nissan, I got the water pump and thermostat for about 70-80... Why you replacing it?
  13. Hi all.. My cousin drained my trans while it and the engine was out.. I wanted to replace it anyway but how much oil do the 5 speed manuals for the RB25DET hold? That stuff is damn expensive and don't want to buy too much... Thanks..
  14. Hi mate... I have just rebuilt my RB25DEt motor.. I would sugest you also replace your thermostat. They don't cost much.. I think mine was under $40... If your thermostat goes, you'll cook your motor.. Worth the money. You could also change your welsh plugs if you want. I've had a few problems with my clutch hub.. You could change that as well... Depends on how many kms you have done. Check all of your hoses, make sure they are all intact. Mate, there is so much you could do. How much money do you have? Is that of nay help?
  15. Thanks... know of any? I haven't been in Melbourne that long so not too familiar
  16. Hi all... Does anybody have the bolts for the oil pump on the RB25det motor?? The machinist lost them and now I'm screwed.. Or where can I get them??
  17. Hi all, Quick question... As you know, studs have the thread on each side.. Do I just hand tighten the studs into the block and them torque the nuts once the head is on or do I need to torque the studs into the block before I put the head on?? The top has a little 6-7mm alan key on top of stud which would tell me that I would just tighten them a little and then torque the head on after with the nut?? Any help would be great.... Thanks....
  18. Hi all... got a set of Weisco pistons and rings... We have a black ring, and a silver ring... others are obviously the oil rings but which one is the top ring?? Black one has a larger gap and is slightly thicker but I thought the silver would be stronger therefore be the top one?? HELP!!
  19. Thanks mate... yep, we saw that but yes, that does now confirm that... Thanks heaps
  20. hi all... Quick question... rebuilding engine atm.... We stripped the engine but the machinist took the crank out and we are about to put it back in but not too sure if the mains thrust bearing goes in the middle or at the back???? It's an RB25DET motor We are pretty sure it goes in the middle because there is an extra groove for it but if anyone can confirm this, that would be great.. Cheers...

  22. Well that's interesting caus I was told series 2 had better injectors... hhmmm... Standard intake atm, dunno brand of exuast, mandrel bend, yeah, i'm aware that you need bigger injectors, aftermarket ecu, etc... I've done my homework.. I think I'll just run 15psi when it's setup correctly... The machinist aren't building my engine.. I'm doing it myself with my cousin (who builds engines quite a bit.. they are just preping the block and parts...
  23. I'm sure they will but I'm just trying to get as much info and opinions as possible... Can't be any harm in that... :-)
  24. Thanks.. ok.. point taken.. let me refrase my question... I'm after an answer from someone who has used and oil for this motor and has been happy with it. My main concern is whether or not to bother using a running in oil or just go straight to the oil that I will use for every day use once it's run in?? Everyone has a difference in opinion so if anyone has been there and done that, let me know.. Thanks
  25. Hi all.. I want to know how much boost I can run with what I've done to the motor.. I will be getting a stand alone management system soon but here is what has been done.. I've put forged pistons in (Weisco 8.4 comp).. shot peened the rods, ARP rod bolts, balanced and polished crank, everything has been balanced, new rings of course, bored and honed, square decked. ARP head studs, port and polished head, standard cams, re ground valves, standard springs, hi flowed the turbo (capable of up to about 250kw at the wheels), front mount intercooler, 3 inch exuast. (I havent got upraged fuel injectors yet but will be doing so, just not sure what to get yet)... I have a series 1 skyline but apparently when I took my turbo in, the guy said it was a series 2 turbo, maybe the whole motor is series 2 which means the injectors will be. I've heard that the series 2 injectors flow alot better!.. Anyway, what you think guys??
