  1. Hi all... Just in the process of rebuilding my motor. 2 questions... 1..... Should I use 'running in' oil for the first 1000kms or so? 2..... What is a good grade of oil to use for the RB25DET motor? Please don't give me a response if your just guessing.. I need a solid reply from someone who really knows the best oil for this motor. Thanks...
  2. Hi all.. Just brought ARP 202-4208 head studs for my RB25det motor in my R33 Skyline (1993) I've noticed that they say that they are 11mm studs... Is this correct?? I'm not sure... Any help would be good.. thanks..
  3. I am rebuilding my rb25det engine and took the turbo in to someone today... He looked at it and said it was stuffed.. had a lot of play in it... We looked in the exaust chamber and it is all white!!! They are normally black from excess fuel... This is running lean as!! It makes the car run really well but I'm nervous! It's running stock ECU.... maybe the fuel pump is dodgy?!?! Anyone know what would caus this? Bad injectors??
  4. Hi all.... I'm looking at buying some head bolts for my engine when it goes back together but want to boost it up and have been told that studs are a lot better for this application.... Can anyone confirm this and more importantly, is there anything I need to know about putting in studs? Is it just a matter of screwing in the studs to the block and then sliding the head over them, then tightening them to specific torque settings?? Is there more to it when screwing them to the block first? Do they have to be a specific tightness in the block before I put the head on??
  5. Mate.... I'm after something small but hard to find... The breather pipe that goes between rocker covers on the RB25DET... You got one??
  6. Unfortunately mate, 3G.. won't do a hell of a lot for you.. Once you pay for labour and all.... If you can do anything yourself... you'll save heaps in money and will therefore be able to do more... What's your compression on that motor? Could bump up the comp a bit... port the head to get better flow... Change your cams... get a stand alone management system.... There's a few ideas... I'm a forced induction person so I'd just say force it but that will cost a bit..... Have you got any ideas yet? Does that help?
  7. Salibro engines... I think that's how you spell it... In Oakleigh... Did my block and head... very good rep!! Check em out... That's if you want that sort of work done of course. :-) They are very popular and busy so they need it for about 2 weeks...
  8. thanks for the offers.. I've actually found some Weisco forgies... (private sale, new in box... $900.. Bargain!! The reason I'm getting forgies is because I'm building the block up for higher boost and I don't want to have to strip the block again so while I'm rebuilding the motor, I might as well do it properly.... Thanks for the advice though guys...
  9. Hi all, Thanks for the offer for the pistons but I've managed to find Weisco forgies for $900 new from someone... with rings, etc... Never been used.. I've done a lot of research lately and have noticed a bit of a common trend in opinions in regards to Aries pistons.. I've been told that they are a bit louder then other forgies.. I mean, all forgies have the potential to knock when cold but they are a lot better now with the silicon compound... aries don't seem to have as good a reputation from what I've heard... Anyone else heard similar? P.S... if you're going to put new pistons in, you'd be stupid not to balance and square deck the block while it's apart.. I'm in the process of getting all of this done at the moment. The block is in as we speak.. Torque plate boring is the way to go.... shot-peening the rods, new rod bolts as well caus they stretch... My crank is just getting a polish caus it doesn't need machining.. Reason why these pistons you have for sale are no good is because I'm not boring it out that much.. 1mm is 40 thou I think, I'm only going 20 thou.. (.5mm)
  10. Sounds like there is enough interest... I'll get the pics up this weekend.. keep your eyes open people...
  11. Thanks guys.... I'm looking and looking on the net... I'll check out those guys you noted... I've found that Weisco make them but they are $960 american... sound a bit pricy.. I know I can get them cheaper then that..
  12. I think about $100 is what I'm prepared to pay... let me know if you can get one for me.... cheers...
  13. okies... no worries... I think I may put them up here anyway... keep an eye out for RB25DET rebuild pics and tips in the forum.... Damn hard to find pistons for this baby though!!!!
  14. Hi mate... I've got similar problems... I've got an R33 RB25DEt and I love it.. My transmission is fine at slow changes and quick shifting but as soon as I get over about 120km/h... whenever I change gears... the teeth grind... I've been told the syncros are half stuffed.. I don't really know much about transmissions so if anyone else can shed some light on the subject, that'd be great.. I could reccommend changing your oil as well... get some good oil this time..
  15. Yeah mate, thats it.. how much would you sell it for? I'd pay for shipping etc..... if not, that's ok... I'm ok either way.. don't feel like you have to.. entirely up to you buddy... :-)
  16. If enough people are interested in seeing pics, etc of my rebuild from the start until now... let me know.. I can post the pics with details, etc.. I can tell you of any problems we encounted and tips, etc... Let me knoe people....
  17. Hi mate.. I'm in desperate need of the internal drivers sie electric motor mechanism... I'm in Melbourne and I'm aware that you prefer local buyers but if you are interested, then let me know...
  18. Hi guys, Just quickly..... I have my engine in pieces and was going to use the stock pistons again because they were in great condition... I now want to put forgies in.. I use my car for work and need this engine back in one piece ASAP!! WHERE the hell can I find someone who makes pistons for the RB25DET on the net???? Do the pistons for the RB26 fit the RB25?? I'm sure they have the same bore... Any help would be great..
  19. Thanks for the info.. I'v e been speaking to a guy from a place called "Salibro or Salibo Engines". He has been extremely helpful and sound like he knows what he is doing.. I'm going to take the block to him and get him to do everything that needs to be done... ie... torque plate boring, honing, dynamic balancing, square decking and much more.. He mentioned something about him doing the bearings but he lost me there..! He was going to do something with them so that they would be 100% reliable when we put the engine back together... Does anyone know how much the block will have to be bored for a 1st rebuild? I'm guesing that 20thou will be enough.. I can get a set or Aries pistons, rings, etc for $1080... but should I wait until the guy has checked out the block before I go buying the pistons just in case he needs to bore it out more then 20thou?
  20. Thanks mate, Good to know, we will be taking extreme care and I will be getting the block bored out 20 thou for the new Aries Pistons I'm getting. I actually spoke to Rocket the other day and said I could get them for $1080... Sounds pretty good. Someone said something about torque deck boring where they use a template where the head usually goes and they bolt it to the block while boring.. This stops any distortion problems that might occur if the block is bored without the tamplate head on there because I was told that if you don't do it this way, when the real head is bolted on, the alignments can distort slightly... I've done a fair bit of homework so hopefully nothing bad happens when I turn the key for the first time!! Think I might have a couple of drinks before I turn the key... just to relax me!! lol.. So those gasket kits, etc are ok?
  21. Hi people, Fairly new here but been reading alot of posts on here and I have to say, I've learnt a fair bit and picked up some good tips on what to do and what not to do. I own an R33 GTS-T and decided to rebuild the motor. My cousin and I have been around cars for a while now and have rebuilt motors before but have never attempted one of these babies! Managed to resource some parts and contacts, etc but... --Has anybody rebuilt an RB25DET motor before and if so, have they come across any issues or have any tips for me as we are about to start in 2 weeks. --Also, has anybody managed to find some good parts (pistons, gasket kits, bearings, etc) and does anybody know of any good brands? I've found it particularly hard to find parts for this motor. It seems easier to find parts for the RB26 motor. Can anybody help here?? Thanks
  22. Hi buddy, wouldn't it have been much easier if you just did a Google search.. That would have told you everything you need to know and more.. It doesn't matter, just thought I'd give you some pointers for future reference... Might be a bit quicker for you next time....
