as said above it depends on the car, however ive always had the gain set under 10 across 3 different turbos and target boost from 10psi to 26psi so maybe thats why yours spikes. the manual reccomends gain at 5 for a standard 33
I wouldn't due to contamination. You won't gain that much space. And from memory the rear section has guards over the cams which are high. So you might only gain a few mm. Depends how close you are to getting to it I guess

And if that doesn't work might have to remove clamp at back of head, disconnect steel pipe from turbo and slip it out completely. But may not be room to do this
