  1. Jawrgy, I deal with suicidal people almost everyday. I have taken that many suicidal people to the hospital for assessment that I know almost every staff member at the local hospitals. It's not a police roll to prevent suicide. How about looking at the mental health system, CAT team and Councelling that are failing these people. My station has taken one person to hospital over 200 times in last year for suicidal threats, drug overdoses and attempted hanging and she gets released by the hospital wihtin few hours EVERY time. I thought this was a car related forum so I mentioned about this offender. Maybe I should mention that I arrested 3 offenders with drugs and weapons last week, a repeat shoplifter, caught a burglar, locked up a drunk causing problems and helped a woman who had been seriously assaulted by her boyfriend. Charging him and arranging for an intervention order for her. Also helped DHS with taking a child away from a heavily drug affected mother. Yes, it was a very busy week for me. That's the job I do almost everyweek and get little to no praise or thanks for it.
  2. He would fit the criteria with his prior offences but in general we don't impound vehicle that isn't owned/normally driven by the offender. That's pretty much the first question the Senior Sergeant asks is whether the car is owned by the offender.
  3. I got an e-mail today from our impound section and found out that he fits criteria for us to apply to court to have his car permanently forfeited to state. We will definitley be trying to do this.
  4. The court system is a joke. I had a similar thing like this a couple of months ago with offender that we caught drink driving blind drunk (refused breath test) was disqualified and fired up assaulting 3 police. he was that drunk he passed out and had to get ambulance to rush him to hospital. He went to court with these matters and other's from few months before where he had hit run accident while drunk again, victims followed him and tried to speak to him. He then deliberately tried to run them over and hit car again with baby inside. Fired up on members again and these were his 5/6th drink driving and disqualified not to mention the conduct endangering life and again he STILL didn't get any jail time.
  5. It was his car and it was an old nissan pulsar.
  6. I just thought I would share that Monday I impounded a car for the first time since the 30 day impounds came in. Very satisfied as he was a drink driver almost 4 times the limit and a disqualified driver. This will be his 6th drink driving matter and same for disqualified driving. At least I hope now we have stopped him for a while! Hopefully the courts back us for once and give him a sentance he deserves.

Both cars were our favourite to impound going by the stats.....The Holden Commodore

    Hoon Laws

I just finshed Night shift and impounded 2 cars overnight. One for doing 130 in 80 Zone in Unregistered car and the other one was a disqualified driver in unregistered car with dodgy plates with priors for suspended driving.

    Hoon Laws

It's not about revenue "it's all about the stats" how many fines, how many briefs, how many epa, how many NOU etc etc.
  10. Those numbers are not caught. They are the total numbers of people and cars on the system that are flagged for those offences.
  11. When I had a chat with the guy running the ANPR system I was told there was someting like 600,000 unregistered cars, 200,000 unlicensed drivers and 200,000 suspended drivers on the system. I was amazed that the numbers were so high.
  12. Well I worked my operation Drive right 2 and we did about 5 hours on Prices Hwy. Not as busy as I expected but we still ended up with about 5-6 Suspended Drivers, One driver with no interlock, about 10 unregistered, 10 unlicensed, 10 NOU about 10 other fines and 3 Drink Drivers. Also had one offender wanted for Burglary as Whereabouts on his car. There was no EPA but the Sherriffs had a field day with about 50 cars pulled over for owing fines of about $100,000 in total.
  13. I'm surprised how this thread has turned out. From the outset the OP has admitted that he made a mistake and took the consequences. He then used the law to his advantage to appeal for a licence to drive at work. I personally don't agree that they should exist but they do and it was granted. In response to all the discussion about accidents caused by speed it is very true that only a very very small percentage of collisions are result of speed but in regards to Fatal or serious injury collisions almost all are contributed to high speeds.
  14. I am working on one of these operations on Thursday night. TAC funded overtime shift.
  15. Condolances to the OP. I don't think many people think before getting behind the wheel. I just came off a week of N/S where it rained almost every night and we caught 5 Drink drivers for the week, including one that drove 15 minutes down wrong side of freeway and had taken prescription meds. I Caught a Learner driver with no full lic driver, one person doing 40+ over speed limit and about 20 more fines for speed 20+ over, Unregistered car etc It simply shows the total lack of respect for the safety of the public that most people have, no amount of police or cameras will change that.
  16. TIN is just another name for penalty notice/fine.
  17. Checks for Unlicesed driver, unregisterd car, suspended/disquailified drivers, Warrants both Police and Sherriff any wherabouts for vehicle and or car owner. Also if vehicle owned by learner driver. They generally coincide with booze bus so obviously drink driver's also caught. In some operations we have taxi directorate there and check all taxi's and even immigration along with EPA. I have worked these operations and no matter how many of us are there we are always flat out. I should be working one agian in couple of weeks.
  18. I wish there was double penalty for the idiot I caught tonight. Drives from western suburbs to eastern suburbs 45 minutes whilst heavily intoxicated. Hits the barrier in city link 3 times and keeps going, crashes into 2 cars in Glen Waverley and keeps going. Finally we catch him leaving the scene. He blows almost 6 times the limit. Nice effort IDIOT
  19. I don't know anything about double demerit points but can tell you there are a number of massive traffic operations that will be running all threw the Easter weekend. We have Traffic cars running all week from our station alone.
  20. The courts definitely put a lot more emphasis on police to be spot on with everything. We just had case thrown I was involved with out, for car the we impounded doing 70 over speed limit as the informant signed the wrong date on summons. Simple as that, case withdrawn. My last one similar to this was a contested fine for number plate (had no reflective paint at all) as prosecutor advised me to drop matter as Magistrate would only see it under bright lights in court and give them benefit of doubt. If you contest it, get some form of legal representation, even legal aid. explain your case at contest mention to prosecutors and very good chances for you to have matter withdrawn.
  21. In the last 2 hours there has already been more than 10 separate jobs for Princes Highway in relation to vehicles drag racing, burn outs etc. Little wonder we (police) are always there. Couple of months ago there were 10 cars impounded along there in space of few hours.
  22. As the others have already said, stay away from Princes Highway Fri nights. Even if you are obeying the road laws it's hard to separate the few doing that from the 100's going up and down drag racing all night. Good chance you would be pulled over and either fined, NOU or EPA but everyone here already knows that.
  23. I'm going to have to use this information. Last person that had an extremely poor attitude with me ended up with 3 fines and NOU with car off road immediately. Not to mention he was one of our well known local crooks.
  24. I like to call it "shooting fish in a barrell"
  25. Arthur, that is the camera. Checks to see if car is registered, owner has current D/L, checks for Warrants, sherriff warrants and any Whereabouts on vehicle. Any special conditions on D/L. Then members will also pull over car's for roadworthy checks, expired rego labels etc. Turns out to be very very busy. When I did it we had about 20 members and still couldn't keep up.
