  1. We never have quota's and never will but end of the day everything is shown in stats. Everytime I do traffic car shift and hand out 20+ fines I get good work e-mail from all my bosses. I process good offender and do search warrants and remand him and take 12 hours to get everything done. I get asked why I couldn't have done it faster as I cost force overtime and its only 1 brief stat at end of day.
  2. My post was a night shift response with my frustrations at other things showing. I totally agree that the court should impose all fines/punishment in any case that is not of a minor nature that can't be settled with a penalty notice. They have made impounding even easier for us now days. Initially any vehicle impounded the offender/driver had to be taken to court but now we can impound car and issue fines for speed 45+ over and fail to have full control of vehicle (burn out) makes it a 5 min paperwork job to impound a car. Only need to wait for the tow. Little wonder that impounds have gone thru the roof! I agree that there is too much interpretation that can be up to the police to determine when it comes to loss of traction. The cars I have impounded were doing 70 km/h over speed limit and one was also suspended at the time. I also think that repeat unlicensed driver's should also fit impound criteria. I'll be the first to say that it's nuch easier for us to deal with a traffic offender and have WAY more powers when it comes to traffic and most traffic offenders are punished way more severley than crime offenders. It's little surprise that most members would prefer to spend 5-10 minutes writing out 2/3 penalty notices to someone and issuing $1000+ in fines than spend 5 hours doing paperwork taking person to court and then they get 100 fine instead.
  3. Here's a way to resolve it even better. You get caught hoon driving and go to court. 1st time loss of Licence for 2 years and large fine. Second offence 6 months Jail and loss of licence for 5 years and 3rd offence permanent loss of Driver's Licence and Jail for 2 years. Let them keep their car and let the family drive it as they will never be allowed. The only way to get through to any offenders is making SERIOUS consequences for their actions at court. Why is there so much crime at present and more and more serious crime by the day. Simple .... becasue the courts give them NOTHING.
  4. Should just be the normal process as cars are stolen and recovered all the time. As long as it was recovered and not listed as stolen any longer then there shouldn't be any issues at all.
  5. Kris, will keep an eye out for you tonight. Just so you know a White Skyline took of on members around Moorabbin couple of nights ago so be careful if driving around there.
  6. I've heard that Drink Driving prior means you will most likely never get in. License suspension may be a 5-10 year wait with a clean record after that. I have also heard of people getting knocked back as had too many demerit points (only more than 6) and had to wait until demerit points reset. I only here these as I try to assist recruit/applicants on certain forums. Then again I know one member who has been lodged for drunk twice and had about 30+ speeding fines in 10 years and he got in (bloody motorcycle rider) lol. Now he wants to go to TMU and fines everyone for everything.
  7. Kris, I will get you next time. lol Leigh, was nice to meet you and even my partner who knows nothing about cars said you were a nice guy and clearly a car enthusiast not a hoon. It was good to show the type of people in SAU. I am on Night Shift all week so on 11-7am.
  8. It took until last week for our insurance to repair our car. Was only minor damage compared to most as my wife moved it undercover as soon as the storm hit.
  9. Nice list of mods there. Good looks and power to match. GL with the sale.
  10. I got done for stopping in loading zone at Stud Park while I was in car and just picked up my wife as she came outside. Only stopped for about a minute. The stupidest story of a parking fine being issued was about 8 years ago in Burke Road, Camberwell the parking inspector fined an ambulance for being in a no standing area.
  11. When we fine someone for speeding when we follow them we are not fining them on estimation. We just travel at same speed as offender and check his speed by our digital display. There is no estimation at all with this. If I sit behind you and stay a constant distance behind (so we are traveling at same speed) and I am driving at 100 then the speed you must be doing is also 100. We can issue fine on estimation but I would NEVER do it. I don't think it's fair to estimate (guess) someone's speed and fine them for that and I don't know of anyone that would do that.
  12. I guess the only rationale with that rule is that 130 km/h is deemed too fast according to the rule makers and you lose your license. I know this rule from personal experience, I lost my license for going 131 in 110 zone and at the time in all other speed zones you had to be 30km/h or more over the limit to lose it. Imagine how I felt. I was lucky to get accepted into force with that. I know now days you can't get in for at least 5 years after having license suspended. At the time I spoke to a s/sgt that I was friends with and he didn't even know that rule.
  13. Just to add another little rule. If you get caught at 130 in 110 zone your license will be suspended for a month.
  14. Kris, I believe that you are correct that if the car is on private property and you're not willing to hand it over for impound then a warrant is required.
  15. In cases where you are caught doing 25-27km/h over I would definitely contest the matter and offer to plea guilty to 24 km/h over and prosecutors will accept this almost every time and you will keep your license. Saves police/court time and police get win and you get BIG win in keeping your license. Lawyers will know this and probably charge 1000's of dollars for their assistance. Princes Highway as others have stated is well known for "hoon" type behavior and will always have large amounts of TMU etc Fri nights strictly enforcing the road laws. Talking about Princes highway I have been to 4 fatal car accidents along there all with young drivers, high speed and alcohol/drugs involved. Each time the driver has killed 1 or more passengers. The latest was only a couple of weeks ago.
  16. I issue fines like this all the time. We measure your speed by taking up position behind maintaining even distance and check the speed on the digital display. It's a very legitimate way of checking speed. I have had a number of these taken to court and generally accused pleads up at lower speed, but generally mine are people doing 25km/h+ over and contest to keep license. It's becoming more common that people contest tickets when they have 0 demerit points left which I think is your case. The magistrate's are fully aware of this and generally don't show any leniency as you continue to commit offences whilst on warnings from vic roads. It shows them that you can't control yourself behind the wheel and will think you're a danger. I would get legal advice but if you're in the above situation you will get more at court than the just the fine. I have had a few full contests with these and I have WON every one.
  17. As above stated 45km/h or more over is 12 license suspension. I think there is 8 demerit points attached and approx $600 fine. For camera offence it won't be chased up for impounding just the fine, points and suspension.
  18. Yes I fined him and didn't let him drive further. Every check we do is recorded and If it shows I checked an unregistered car and didn't fine driver I could end up in LOTS of trouble and become civilly liable if I let them drive and end up in collision. End of the day it's driver's responsibility to know road rules and drive registered vehicle. It's CLEARLY written on the permits what the conditions are. As it's been discussed number of times that unregistered car is NOT covered for TAC insurance etc. I chased up with Vic Roads about the car yard to investigate them further too.

    Blitz Today?

There will be a lot more TMU around Doncaster area as mentioned as the diamond creek TMU has now joined with Nunawading TMU and both now cover that area as new regional boundaries.
  20. NO demerit points and $597 is the fine for Unregistered. No need to state the obvious why there is NO leeway for people driving unregistered cars. Lately I have been catching lots of people driving unregistered cars with permit clearly outside the conditions. I think a lot of car yards/sellers don't explain that permits strictly to get car to and from place of repair for RWC and registration. The funniest I have had is someone delivering pizzas in this situation as car yard told him OK to drive. They (car yard) also put down wrong engine and Vin number on permit too. There are some dodgy people out there for sure!
  21. The people I fined without helmets were in their 20's and good crooks with heaps of priors for burg/theft/drugs etc and were loitering around car park. Probably about to break into cars. I hope now that it's OK with you that I fined them and put in field contact in relation to their behavior. Also our patrol van did catch some "real" crooks too that day. Teenagers that had broken into number of cars and set building on fire too.
  22. Another fine I hadn't heard of until yesterday is that a Driver now gets a fine if any of the passengers aren't wearing their seat belt. (as well as the person not wearing it) TMU yesterday caught in front of me 2 guys in truck not wearing their seat belts and fined both and gave the above fine to driver as well. At the time we had just caught Unlicensed driver in Unregistered car and 2 people riding without helmets. 7 fines in 5 minutes. I am aiming now to catch a person smoking in car with child present as I have already caught a drunk and offensive behavior since the new fines. I'm a non-smoker so I don't believe people should smoke in front of their children anyway.
  23. Rock Kung has the best home made Dim Sims. I regularly attend there to get them.
  24. As of july 1st there are some new finable offences and massive fine increases. Some interesting ones I thought I would inform you of are below. It's now an offence to smoke in car with a person under 18 present. $239. I would expect a lot of these could/would be issued and a lot of unhappy smokers. Another interesting one is Offensive behaviour by a person in a motor vehilce (only in St kilda) $119 Drunk in public place is has gone up to a massive fine of $478, offensive behaviour is now $478 also. Big night out could become very expensive if you don't behave. I wouldn't be surprised if they have an operation "quit" campain to target driver's smoking in above circumstances.
  25. Police not knowing what's a GTR is funny but even more funny to me is my wife and I have just sold our TT Supra and only one person out of about 20 people that called or came to look at the car knew what a 2JZ was. Had people comparing it to R32 gts-t and toyota celica at least the lucky buyer knew and is a member on here.
