  1. I have stayed off this for a while but now will add my input. Majority of crooks we catch is from public assisatnce. I have personally apprehended Drug dealers in car parks, burglars breaking into houses/businesses etc, pepole stealing cars or theft from motor vehicle's, people doing graffitti ans the list goes on. All from the public dobbing in someone acting suspiciously. I have apprehended numerous drink driver's from people calling in about erratic driver's too. ALways call 000 in these circumstances because then the job is given out to a unit to attend or if no unit the area sgt will determine best course of action. It is hard in relation to traffic matters because unless police witness offence occurring then hard to prosecute without number of witnesses willing to make statement. In most cases it's whether or not police unit available at time to attend job whether we can attend. I have had 15 jobs on my plate at once before and if the first job tied me up for long period then other unit IF avail would be given job or we just have to wait until we are clear again.
  2. Will keep it short as on iPhone nismoid correct unless police actually saw you drive then no offence can be prooved, I doubt fine will be issued unless more to this. Also full lic can drive manual even if only had auto to start with. As to drink driving need more than keys in ignition to proove, I had one recently that was blind drunk passed out at wheel at intersection car running in turning lane with car in gear and indicator on and he got off. Sums up the stupid court system and why crime on the rise
  3. I would definitely contest all of these fines. If they don't NOU the car I don't see how it's possible to issue fine for Unroadworthy vehicle. Any decent solicitor should be able to get you off that if you ask me. Roadworthiness is a safety issue so fines irrelevant IMO as NOU is to force person to make car safe. I fyou give out fine without NOU then your defeiting the purpose. Doesn't make any sense to me and I would think court would agree.
  4. Re above my advice is to stay in car. Our training etc is for that and if you get out you can appear confrontational. I don't pick on imports apparently I pick on euro cars as I just impounded a Lamborghini Gallardo. We were just picking on him of course as there is nothing wrong with travelling at 150 in 80 zone. Sorry forgot he wasn't speeding according to him we made it all up.
  5. I'll answer above. Clearly if driver has long history of traffic or criminal offences the likelyhood of them receiving a Defect/Fine/EPA increases dramatically compared to someone with no history. As 80KPH stated attitude is a big thing on determining whether defect/fine issued. In the 8 years I have been in the job I have noticed a huge change in how the public view the police and the general lack of respect towards any sort of authority figure especially with the youth is rediculous at present. At the same time Crime figures through the roof. I know where I work our workload has probably increased 5 fold in last 2 years. Just last night I caught youth 14 carrying knife and both him and his brother told me to F*&K off and I am C**T for not letting him off with warning. Went to Car accident with Drink Driver 4 times limit crash through fence and into side of house with driver again stating he has done nothing wrong and we are C*&TS etc again. I am sick of the public's attitude of just give me a warning, I'M sorry, it's not like I have done anything really wrong etc etc. I personally don't do much traffic stuff these days(other than drink drivers which is a daily occurance) as too busy with other stuff but with the public's attitude and the court system the way it is things are only going to get worse and heading that way by the day. I can understand people's frustration with getting defected, fined etc why all this other stuff is going on but TMU/Traffic taked to do that and with the road toll decreasing every year the force and government would say what we are doing is working.
  6. Operation RAID for Remove All Impaired Driver's has nothing to do with defects. I don't know why anyone would need to hand out more defects as they are classed very low as a stat for us. Every boss I have had couldn't care where I never gave out a NOU, they love when I issue lots of fines and apprehend lots of offenders. I also don't see how you can get fine for driving unroadworthy vehicle without being issued a Notice of Unroadworthy that's very strange to me.

    New Cars

I just wanted to share my excitement and to say I am another one who has left the import scene and gone to euro car. After having nothing but trouble over recent months with supra and my old cheap ford. I have turned a negative into a positive and Bought 2 new cars for myself and soon to be wife. 1.Jaguar X-Type (my mrs) Wedding gift 2. Hyundai GETZ (for me) Very exciting times with wedding in 3 weeks, my missus becoming a paramedic and now new cars. It's both our first new cars which will be good as have had an extroadanary bad run with our cars over the years. Happy motoring to all and hope everyone has a fun and safe xmas and new years. Graeme
  8. It was me that checked Kris last night. I Was smiling when I finally saw a nice car not the 800 boring ones we had PBT by then. When I saw the stickers I wanted them to come to me as the rest there were all bored TMU just looking for any reason to fine/NOU a car. Took you round the corner for chat as the other guy would have for sure and definitely tried to give you hard time.
  9. Operation Unite on again tonight but the one you should be aware of is Operation Lock Down I think they were calling it last night. TMU from Knox, Boroondara, Dandy, Monash and Others all working together dong RBT sites and abviously that's pretty boring so will DEFINITELY go over any cars that are modified etc. I believe this is in the Knox/Boronia area tonight. Prob not best to drive around there. Was good to see and meet a few from the club last night and very glad they were doing right thing.
  10. Just so you all are aware there is a MASSIVE operation on in and aroud the city tonight and tomorrow night to have 500 police out and about. WE have 2 going from our station. I don't believe it's traffic orientated but I would expect more booze busses, tmu, road blocks etc to go along with all the other's out and about doing there patrols and foor patrols. I am amazed with how many drink driver's there are though with my station getting about 15 in last 3 weeks just by doing raod blocks, checking more drivers and car accidents, when will people learn.
  11. NOU is Notice of Unroadworthy better known as Canary. I work in Eastern Suburbs of Melbourne.
  12. I believe that if car rego is suspended then car is classed as unregistered. I would advise to contact Vic Roads and enquire with them. Possibly gettting the Unreg permit to transport car to RWC. I am not sure about the flat towing I thought it was ok but it's hard to keep up with all the changes every month. I'm not out to hasle someone trying to do the right thing. Last time I went to pull over a a car flat towing ended up being stolen car and apprehended 7 offenders for multiple theft of Cars. Put a stop to ALOT of stolen cars in my area. Long day as worked almost 20 hours straight dealing with it.
  13. My station is pretty serious about this operation as we have treffic cars running all next week and I am on some operation Road BLock on Next weekend. Must be Booze Buses and more, I surely will be tasked to give out lots of NOU's, EPA and fines because end of the day its a stats game.
  14. Operation Runs until Mid December but other similiar operations will run through Xmas and New Years. There are always operations on but this one is being pushed very hard. It's the first time that I have seen/had instructions that all units to perform at least 1/2 hour to hour of Breath Test site every shift and extra Traffic car shifts rostered. IMO we should be doing similiar things anyway when quiet pulling over cars for RBT's etc but I absolutely hate Drink Drivers.
  15. Guys/Girls, Just a warning that over next few weeks we are running operation R.A.I.D in relation to Drink/Drug driving with ALL units tasked to do Road Blocks every shift. We have already got 3 drink driver's in last 3 nights and only checked about 15 cars. I hope none of you are stupid enough to drink and drive anyway but obviously there will be lots of intercepts which will lead to more fines, EPA, NOU etc also. FYI One of the 3 was in a R34 GTT (Modified) thankfully not a club member. Take care and be warned that expect to be intercepted more frequently over the next month or so.
  16. I agree with above. I don't believe that you have to mention it. As long as both parties aware/involved in conversation it can be used in court. We are always trained/told to be aware that all our conversations could be recorded. I know alot of TMU constatly have Mico Cassette recorders going everytime they intercept a vehicle as they work one up often to cover themselves.
  17. I have been searching this alot and I can't tell you the actual penalty as it's a summons to court offence so it's up to the Magistrate as to what penalty you will get. I have found that it's offence to possess, use, sell or own a device under Road Safety Act 127/1986 Section 74 (1). Hope this helps and obviously they can be detected and vehicle searched for same and if located should be seized for court and eventually disposed of.
  18. As stated previously you have every right to request officer's name, station and registered number. I only advised that It wouldn't be in your best interest as in most cases you will get much more harder treatment. If I thought that someone was going to complain about me I would give them every fine, charge, NOU EPA under the sun as it would look much better for me if you did complain. As then I could say they complained becasue of all the fines, NOU etc. If I was stupid enough to pull someone over and abuse the crap out of them and not give them anything and they did complain it wouldn't look good for me, because why would someone complain if they received a warning or routine intercept?
  19. I just pulled over a R35GTR last week to have a look. The owner didn't want to stop talking about it. After about 20 minutes I had to excuse myself and leave. They really are awesome.
  20. I generally wouldn't advise to ask officer's name, badge number etc. If I get asked that I always give it to them on the Penalty notice, Summons, NOU that I would issue them.
  21. Tets, It will be on both the car and you but the car flags straight away. If you were driving another car unless you get pulled over and spoken too and they then do checks you would be fine. Shoot me a PM with details and I will make some enq's for you if you want
  22. Tets, It sounds like you mave have one on your vehicle. Especially if your car is getting searched each time and getting questioned as you mentioned. That's pretty much what they are for if we suspect someone is dealing as we find empty deal bags in vehicle or suspect person is drug user if syringes or bong located in car we do field contact and then each time person is checked vehicle is searched, person questioned.
  23. I worked a shift in town early this year overnight and one of the officer's in our group submitted 10 EPA noise notices for the shift. Every car with a slightly louder than normal exhaust he submitted. I would be 99.9% sure that not one of them would be over the noise limit. He was not TMU just his way to try to proove he worked hard that shift.
  24. It's purely up to the descretion of the officer. There is no "Stat"associated with them so I couldn't ever see a TMU officer submitting one. I personally don't see a point to doing a field contact for that reason anyway. They are there IMO to associate crooks together, where they hang out and if suspicious persons in an area for high crime etc. Not to say you were hanging around Princes H'wy on a friday night as an example.
  25. As stated before no such thing as "black list" we can put a Field Contact in on your car which will show up everytime the vehicle is checked. Have seen an increasing amount of vehicles with Field Contacts associated due to being around "hoon" area's/illegal drags etc If you are unlucky enough to get one for that reason if checked you will definitely get a much harder time.
