  1. As others have said it and I agree it's a reaction to the media pressure resulting from the fatal accident. Show the public we are out in force. Total waste of time IMO. If they were serious they would run massive operations on fri/sat nights for a few weeks and take all the car's off the road that are doing these street races, also get a few drink/drug driver's off the road, but that's to common sense and too costly with the overtime and shift allowances.
  2. I work in Monash area. This is just a normal traffic shift for me 20+ fines and normally about 5 licenses suspended. So many bad/stupid driver's out there. At one stage we had the impounded car pulled over, a marked TMU car with it's lights on with another car pulled over behind it and still got another 2 cars doing 20-25 over speed on laser in same stretch of road. 4 cars pulled over at once..multi tasking at it's best.
  3. I fined 2 people for this today. First one was also doing 25km/h over speed limit and other one had no seat belt on and no rear p plate. Impounded car doing 101 in 50 zone and 3 other cars doing 35+ over speed limit. (none were imports)
  4. I think there has been a massive increase in drags along Princess Highway on Fri/Sat nights. We are always getting jobs for it and I know there has been large number of impounds along there.

    Ratpiss Kids

No point calling police unless for insurance purposes. Even if you saw the kids doing the damage, they are under 10 so can't be prosecuted. I would definitely park somewhere else and tell your sister to move. They will only get worse and eventually their house will be the meeting point for all the local scum.
  6. It's as simple as if you get pulled over you will get a fine and most likely told not to drive home. That's what I would do anyway if I pulled you over. Simply because you clearly knew you were doing the wrong thing to start with and therefore need to accept the consequences if you are caught. Skylines will always be somewhat of a target because in reality almost every skyline can be fined, NOU, EPA for something and most TMU won't pull a car over unless they are going to fine/nou/epa it. They don't do random checks like general duties members. I do very little traffic now as way too busy. I'm lucky to do 2 random checks on a night shift but my random checks are cars driving erratically and generally we get 3 drink driver's a week.
  7. I can't really add any positive's in relation to this. It's been a bad couple of weeks for Vic pol that's for sure. I have never targeted car clubs on organized cruises where everyone is behaving as that should be encouraged in my opinion. It's things like this that turn car enthusiasts anti police and will only encourage more illegal "hoon" style behavior which is on the increase IMO. I worked a special traffic operation a month ago where 15 cars were impounded in space of 5 hours in eastern suburbs alone. It's getting to the stage on some days there are more TMU units on in area than general duties patrol units. Little wonder that crime is on increase and there are more and more cars being pulled over and fined/nou etc.
  8. The answer is that you are suspended and can't drive anywhere in Australia legally. In response to Charlie's post if you got overseas D/L now you would still be suspended as Vic D/L overrides the international one. I have personally charged someone with that.
  9. Alarms good to deter them, other options are security doors/roller shutters but best option is nice big pet dog. Not too many houses broken into with large dogs protecting the house. I got broken into years ago and got told by the CIU that my wife and I probably staged the burg as we lost $100K in jewelery (no insurance on it) and there were no signs of forced entry. Good treatment for a fellow policeman I must say. Little wonder I have NO respect for CIU.
  10. Lance, if your local station doesn't help you out. PM me the details and I will chase it up for you. Pretty easy to sort out.
  11. Brings back memories. That's were I did most of my police driver training including practice pursuits.

    No Shame...

My accident was about 5 years ago. Took about 12 months of extensive physio, accupunture and massage to fix up back and neck. Still have to maintain some exercise and occasional massage or my neck gets really sore and leads to a migraine, probably be like that for rest of my life. It was a miracle that I walked away. I was in an older car that didn't have air bags and I smashed my head against side window which in most cases leads to people becoming paraplegic. The offender had priors for drink driving and was charged with lots of serious offences for his behavior. He only ended up going to jail for 3 months with further 18 months suspended sentence and lost his license for 8 years.

    No Shame...

I was the victim of a hit/run also but much much worse. I was hit head on by a landcruiser doing 100-120+ on wrong side of Jells Road and he was drunk. His car leaked all the fluids from the scene to his house about 1 km away. He then fired up on my work colleagues that found him, showed NO remorse at all. I had to have 6 months off work, hospital stay and lots of physio nut lucky to be here at all.
  14. Drinking in street/public place is only an offence if the area is designated as a "dry" area by counsel by laws. They need to have signs in area stating same too.

    No Shame...

I would say on average we get 4-5 hit runs reported at my station everyday. I watched an accident one day and driver was about to leave. I stopped him and pulled out my badge and told him to leave his details and all would be sorted. Instead he fired up at me and told me to F%%'off and still left the scene. Sums up society these days.
  16. Spotted Kris along Dandenong Road at about 4 am. Was going to say hi but had to go after that motor bike. Couldn't find it though. Better that way as probably would have been pursuit. I liked the green R34 that was with you too.
  17. As long as you are not over the limit there is no law stating you can't have an alcoholic beverage whilst driving.
  18. You can choose to have a blood test but the alcohol levels decrease MUCH faster in your breath than blood. If you were say 0.07 with breath and had blood taken a hour later you would most likely be 0.08+. In most cases people's alcohol level are on the rise. They keep rising generally for about 1-2 hours before decreasing. Unless it's just mouth alcohol.
  19. That article was good. It's what I thought as I have never had anyone with a positive reading from eating food/mouth wash etc. I have even faulted our PBT's a couple of times recently as have tested some people that I could slightly smell the alcohol and they admitted having couple of drinks and the PBT showed nothing.

    Thailand!

I was there in January and stayed at Holiday Inn in Patong and it was fantastic but being a pool villa definitely helped. Good location and best buffet breakfast ever!!! I have to agree with above in terms of shopping, MBK is AWESOME almost spent 2 days shopping there with my wife. The markets also were really good and can buy good T shirts and shorts for $4-5, sunglasses $3 and same items in Patong 2-3 times that. I wouldn't bother buying many DVD's as most of the newer movies are just TS (camera) versions.
  21. Since when is 25Km/h over fall into the "hoon" laws. All my training and reading has been 45+ Km/h over. Also the Car too low doesn't fit into the criteria for car to be seized either. My basic knowledge is 45+km/h over speed limit, drive whilst disqualified/suspended with prior conviction for same, engage in speed trial (race) or improper use with loss of traction/excessive acceleration (burn out etc) I've only impounded cars that have been for excessive speed and/or suspended. Tried twice to impound car that deliberately fish tailed around bend and then over 3 lanes of traffic but the S/SGT wouldn't authorize it. I think if it means taking matter to court to impound then there will be a massive drop in impounds. At present we can issue fine and fill out paperwork for impound and all done by time tow arrives. I don't see many members wanting/willing to put full brief of evidence together for court to impound a car when they can just give you fine and be done in 5 minutes.
  22. I can clearly understand how frustrated the car enthusiasts are with all the new traffic laws. In the same time that "hoon" laws have come in we have added use of official warnings/fines for theft, criminal damage, drunk, offensive behavior and much more and all were previously court appearance for same thing. That's if they are first/second time offenders and fit the criteria. Fine for theft/criminal damage is the same as the fine for doing 10+ km/h over speed limit.
  23. It was at 3 am on a Monday morning so no traffic around at that time. I just happened to be there dealing with something else and heard the car accelerating heavily and BOV and then saw it take a corner aggressively/excessive speed. The driver didn't have a poor attitude and I didn't fine him or charge him as I'm not one to fine someone on estimated speed, charge for manner dangerous or impound car for some slightly excessive acceleration.
  24. You could try to drive on other state license and if lucky get away with it but If you are checked and they check your name then it will show that you have a Victorian driver's license and are suspended. I have caught male doing similar thing who was suspended here on Vic license so he went back to Malaysia and got his License over there to cover the time while he was suspended here. Big FAIL!!! Nice try though.
  25. I EPA'd one skyline in Kingsway, Glen Waverley last week. The person was driving like he was at Bathurst on the final lap! Then pulled the I didn't know that I couldn't have a FMIC, Pod filter and Atmo BOV I just bought it this way.
