  1. My advice is to be polite, not going to be a good day for you if you jacked me up. Obviously tmu don't waste time with random intercepts person either getting nou, EPA or fines. I know that most love the triple fine to motorist as saves them doing more intercepts. I personally know lots of tmu and none that I know target import drivers, obviously a few do any we already know who they are. Again imports easy targets as prob 90% modified in some way it's the same as me checking druggie people at railway station over business man in suit which one more likely to be on warrants, cause trouble, have drugs/weapons on them?
  2. I heard that there are going to be target lists of repeat offenders given to tmu units for tasking. Could be called black lists. I think it's good to target repeat disqualified, suspended, unlic drink drivers etc. massive push to turn traffic matters into crime charges. Eg do burnout near spectators and get charged with reckless conduct giving you crime record
  3. Now that I have finally done the traffic training I can say the police have no power at all to request vass certificate. Can only send you to get rwc and up to mechanic to request vass. Would say from the training that 90% of nou issued incorrectly
  4. I just watched this and definitely was simply another "hoon" story. Just search ACA and it's on their website.
  5. It's totally irrelevant. It's only been brought up to say "look, the police did something wrong". Yes we are "meant" to PBT everyone pulled over but there are plenty of times that doesn't happen. Days when the PBT's get calibrated, no PBT in car etc" If I can't smell any alcohol on person and stated didn't drink and I don't have PBT on me, I'm not going to hold them up for 10-20+ minutes until another free unit can bring us one. I think that's fair. If I believe that they had been drinking then I wait until i get PBT. Last time this happenedto me, I got a disqualified driver and ended up being almost 5 times the limit.
  6. It means nothing in relation to the fine.
  7. Calling 000 for police is the only way to get job given to unit to attend. If you call local station and they take the details of job, then we call 000 on your behalf to get job created and given to unit to attend. I personally wouldn't call 000 about car doing burnout etc, neighbor having party but people do. I know all about the jobs the paramedics deal with as my wife is one.
  8. All the signs in that area and parking enforcement is due to the ongoing behavior there during those times. I know that there are at least 20 people ringing up 000 to complain about "hoon" driving in that area every friday night. The signs are not just a random thing in a random area. This has been put together due to public complaints and information gathering over long period of time and all avenues to stop the gatherings in that area are being looked at. Parking fines, council by law fines, etc. I have worked on operations targeting Prices Highway and there were 12 cars impounded in one shift along there. That sort of behavior is unacceptable on a main public road. In regards to "hoon" impound laws I am happy that they have finally included Drink driving matters and Unlicensed driving matters.
  9. I can't believe that nothing can be done in regards to your damage to your vehicle. If you have the rego and it matches the type of car its a report, statements and follow up investigation with owner/driver of car. I hope you go back and ask for sergeant as the response to you is total crap. I am sick of lazy members not doing their job properly and getting away with it. Here's my inside story from recently. I catch 4 offenders for burglary and $100K damage to property and CIU don't even attend scene. Day before that I get accident job with person trapped/injured and on way to job TMU car right in front of us. TMU drives straight past the accident leaving it for me to deal with. None of them get into any trouble for this.
  10. There is normally about 6 tmu cars just tasked to be around that area on a Friday night. Any and Every avenue to stop the gatherings on a friday night in that area are being tried.
  11. I'm pretty sure that the local council has approved the signs. I'm not 100% sure but I don't believe that a service station is deemed as private property but more a road related area in regards to traffic matters. Hence I can catch drink driver, unlicensed, unregistered etc etc in a service station. Also can clearly search car/person for weapons/drugs and lock up drunk as deemed public place.
  12. I know that there are lots of new parking signs recently installed in that area to combat the groups of people gathering. I also know that there is a move on power fine of $1000 for any "spectators" loitering in area if they remain once instructed to leave area. In regards to contesting fine for no time, normally if we miss something like that we are instructed to re-issue the fine with necessary corrections. You can always write letter to civic compliance and see how that goes. My letter failed recently for red light offence when turning right as I believed I had entered on green. Can't hurt to try. Pretty tough to contest/win if police took photo of your car parked with no occupants and sign clearly states no standing expect for vacuuming.
  13. I think it's Ok as long as there is a licensed driver in both cars and lights etc are operational.
  14. Maybe a SAU team next year? I thought it was a great experience and happily be involved with it again. I think knowing a few little tricks like taping the feet, voltarin gel and anti inflammatory tablets when needed made huge difference. I was lucky enough that I only had a tight left calf that I just needed Voltarin gel rubbed in and then was like new. No blisters or anything. I did absolutely no walking training leading into it as didn't have time but did a few 10km+ runs to get fitness and I dropped almost 20kg in 5 months eating well made a huge difference. We didn't sleep but had about 1 hour breaks at most of the check points. We had similar issue in the 45-60 km part where team member strained his foot but pushed on for 5 1/2 hours in pain before stopping. I didn't think it was very physically demanding but a massive test of mental strength and willpower.
  15. I thought I would update in regards to this. The 2012 Oxfam walk started Friday Morning in Jells Park, Wheelers Hill. Just to make things tougher the rain started and lasted almost 3 hours. At least it stopped from then on and we had nice sunny weather. My team had some serious trouble with one member taken to hospital by ambulance at the 3rd check point. Another team member badly strained his foot and also retried. We pushed on through the cold night, mud and big hills and by sunrise we were about 75km done. The last 25km were a mental battle as tired and seemed never to end. Just to punish us some more the last 7 km were up and down the biggest hills I have ever walked on. We made it to the finish line in just over 29 1/2 hours. Big thanks to our support crew, family and friends that visited us along the way and everyone that donated to our team.
  16. I'm tipping that this will be shown to put car enthusiasts in the "hoon" category. I can't see it going any other way. I have been working when the Noble Park riots happened, the Bob Jane riots occurred, attended to fatal collisions on Princes H'way and being in pursuits with cars/bikes along there also. I don't believe for a minute that any of these were caused by enthusiasts but other elements of the community that have taken an opportunity to behave in such a manner and let it be blamed on car clubs/enthusiasts. I think that the behavior of motorist along there recently has become worse. I have cars racing past me in the marked police car whilst I have car already pulled over. Motorbikes removing plate and racing around baiting police. The last person I dealt with there had drugs and weapons in his car. I think that everyone knows what happens there on a Friday night and no real enthusiasts would attend there anyway. I don't feel sorry for anyone getting fined/NOU there as it's stupidity in my opinion to put yourself in that area during these times. I remember working a TAC shift about 12 months ago and there were about 10 cars impounded along there in space of about 4 hours one Friday night. I know for a fact that plans are in motion which will make it much less attractive for people to be attending/loitering around princes h'way on a Friday night.
  17. Paul, go to demonoid.com. I searched Van Damme collection and found it. It also goes by name A.W.O.L or Lionheart. I think Australia was the only place that called it wrong bet.
  18. We do have spike strips, I did the training years ago to deploy them. They can only be set up on designated roads where it's deemed safe to use them. Also you would probably need pursuit to last in excess of 15 minutes to get back up, approval etc to set them up. I would say that 95% of pursuits over in first 10 seconds.
  19. It's a sad situation for all involved. I know how scrutinised all the police members involved will be. I think pursuits are extremely dangerous and not entered into lightly. I don't know whether or not this was called as a pursuit if not then members could be in even more trouble. Once we call pursuit it gives the opportunity for our sgt, senior sergeant and inspector to call it off. Obviously the members can also call it off at any stage. I have been lucky or unlucky depends on how you see it and been in involved in about 40 pursuits. I have called most of them off myself as too dangerous including one where 10 seconds later they t boned another car at 160 kmh. All pursuits either get called off or end in collision. Not really worth it in my opinion. I have followed stolen cars lately and not even bothered to pursue them. I think we still need to pursue cars initially but some members make poor decisions to continue to go After car once too dangerous. That comes down to inexperience generally. I hope to be sgt soon and I will call off all pursuits immediately with my members involved. I don't think we can ever say no pursuits at all or everyone will run if they think we haven't got their registration. Unfortunately most of the fatal pursuits probably could or should have been called off as high speeds involved but without being involved can't really comment. Most of my pursuits were few years ago where group of teenagers stole cars daily and drove around deliberately getting in pursuits for fun. They were in hundreds and the courts gave them nothing as punishment. They only stopped when they became 18 and the main offenders brother died in a pursuit.
  20. I would get all of your friends to make Stat Decs in relation to the incident with you all explaining that only the front rider was speeding at that speed and I would add in yours about your record and ask for warning. If that is not successful I would contest the fine. Get legal representation as I don't see how it's possible to fine all of you for same speed at same time. I would get all of you together to fight it and I'm pretty sure that all of you would get off. Most divisional vans don't have footage from front, there is no course for estimating speed. There are number of factors to proove in court for operating the Laser. I have a contest on for Laser fine going through the courts now, first in 10 years in job and have learnt that it's a nightmare and I never want to use a Laser again.

    Hail Damage

Watch out with some insurance companies. My wife's car got damaged in the last big storm and had rating 1 full comp. They repaired the car and then dropped her to rating 3 and increased her yearly premium by more than 60%. We changed companies and got rating 1 and ended up saving almost $200 a year compared to previous rating 1 policy anyway. Win for us.
  22. Ron, Good luck with the sale, I'm sure whoever gets this will be extremely happy. To me it seems pretty much the perfect street/track set up. Something like this temps me to get back into another Skyline.
  23. I thought I would just post a short topic with the link to my teams Oxfam Page. The Oxfam Trailwalk is a 100km team walk to help raise funds to assist underprivileged communities in countries all around the world. If anyone would like to sponsor my team I would really appreciate it. Donations of $2 or more are tax deductible and you almost immediately receive a receipt once you donate. Thanks Graeme http://trailwalker.oxfam.org.au/melbourne/teams/team/?team_id=11958
  24. Best bus public transport is in Cancun Mexico. There is a bus along the Hotel Zone every 1-2 minutes. They all stop for you no matter if you are at the bus stop or not if you wave. Had some interesting trips on them. One was fully decked out with stereo system and lights like a night club, others had buskers singing along.
  25. Yes, attitude is a big thing that affects my decision. If the person has done something minor wrong but is nice and friendly then I would warn them. I Have pulled over cars for random checks with driver's with bad attitudes and they ended up with fines and NOU on car. I just finished up dealing with seige tonight with "crazy" man who had arguement with wife and when we arrived was in rear yard armed with pitchfork and wanted us to shoot him. We had to get CIRT team and negotiators out to scene and luckily after couple of hours matter was resolved with him getting oc sprayed and arrested. No injuries to him, police or neighbours that were involved. He absolutley HATED police as he recently received NOU on his car and that was enough to push him over the edge.
