Billet Aluminium Engine Block & Heads
T-Rex replied to my_gtr32's topic in Engines & Forced Induction
Apparently a complete LS1 weighs 195kg, although not even the LS1 users have exact weights, they usually just guess. -
Billet Aluminium Engine Block & Heads
T-Rex replied to my_gtr32's topic in Engines & Forced Induction
I emailed the company thats where the $11,000 figure came from, email them yourself if your unsure. Also the crap i was dribbling was caused by a bottle of jim beam that found its way into my mouth lol. I have been told that an LS1 (alloy) V8 bare block weighs around 42kg. A bare WRX block can easily be carried around by one person (probably 25-35kg). I think you could expect a 15-20kg weight saving using an alloy block. Plus a whole lot stronger! -

The main caps are solid billet 1 piece like the factory item. This block would be great for drag cars or high output track cars, a bit overkill for the street though. -

Billet Aluminium Engine Block & Heads

Its the old story of flow data is not everything. part of why i asked about the GTR head allowing 1400hp. I dont like to mention this, but the 2JZ head can flow 2000hp without any porting, whats the maximum power anyone has seen from a GTR with untouched cylinder ports? -

I know of a V8 engine for sale, bolt it together for a streetable 1000-2000hp. Basically im saying dont look for anything billet and think you have something special because you dont. Build something factory and get way more respect from the V8 crowd, i got respect from a bloke running a road runner Hemi as his car stock was only 1 second per 1/4 mile quicker than my WRX Which only had 225HP!! -
VCT is just a complicated way of saying "harder power". In general more boost and more fuel equals more power and more performance. Adding variables just adds complications. Now this is a question not a statement, whats your thoughts on making 1400hp out of a RB26 head without porting?

Your not wrong, 100k for one of those in base trim, imagine what the cost would be with the supercharged engine and a few options! As a comparison a good cobra kit is $15,000 for the rolling chassis including body. Just need Engine, Gearbox, shafts and all interior parts which isn't going to cost over $85,000. Crazy thing is its not hard to get a cobra to run in the 10's down the 1/4! Well i can dream for now anyway

If i were going to race car look like the GT40 i'd much rather the Porsche 917 kit, far more striking to the eye
-
This is not entirely true. A lot of forged pistons are more fragile than stock items and detonation will shatter them faster than cast items. I dont think im going to go ahead with any sort of engine modification at this stage, im more likely to build a Cobra. Money much better spent.

So if i buy a motor from Lewis engines or Godzilla motorsports i should get it pulled down and checked if it was done correctly.. Im sorry i have never heard anything so ridiculous! Most engine failures are caused by bad tunes not bad engineering.

Im not trying to say i will get away with no tax, i havn't had much experience with buying from overseas, so i was more enquiring to anyone who has. It wouldn't surprise me that the OS kit was second rate, it looks it just to look at! But to assume a Tomei engine could be the same is silly. They have a reputation much like Cosworth with their engines, so if one were to fail prematurely it wouldn't go down well. I do believe that even for $25,000 the Tomei engine is a good deal. I havn't seen any other "turnkey" engine that looks as good (to me) for similar price. If you had an engine built with same quality parts i'd bet it will cost over 25g. I stopped building a WRX engine when it was getting towards the $20,000 mark...

Yep Australian dollars. I think there might be a Tax or Tariff on it too, but i have bought goods to the value of $4000 from Japan and never got any extra taxed amount on it like your "supposed " to on any item/s over $1000. see here http://www.rhdjapan.com/tomei-genesis-phas...nr34-gt-r-55011

It actually states FREE SHIPPING, but i have went through the checkout and it was an extra $1500 delivery if FREE SHIPPING wasn't included.

Nengun - Anyone Had Trouble Getting Parts?
T-Rex replied to Munro's topic in General Automotive Discussion
RHD Japan are doing a big overhaul on their website so maybe some things have been mucked about? Through Nengun i ordered a clutch, gauges, and some intake parts. They arrived after about 4-5 weeks and everything was fine. Then i got an email saying all my parts were ready to be shipped from Japan.. I came so close to getting the parts twice, but in the end their system showed that i hadn't paid for the second batch so they never sent them, it was almost a win for me though! -
Differences are: conrods crank camshafts, L19 rod bolts Tomei head bolts/washers Tomei main cap bolts Tomei oil gallery orifice Tomei timing belt Tomei oversized oil pan with baffle Tomei oversized oil pump comes with spark plugs and Nismo thermostat. So there are quite a few differences between the two, virtually every fastener is an upgraded item.
-
Bringing back a very dead topic here, but as Tomei have the series 2 Genesis engine out now has anyone bought one or had any experiences with one? Basically they are more revised now and include virtually everything for a bolt in application, sump and all! RRP is $37,000 but RHD Japan have them for $19,500 delivered. I added up the cost of buying the individual parts included and came up with over $20,000 not including ANY labour for assembly.

Carrillo rods are a much better built rod than Eagle. I have had both side by side and after seeing the difference i would never buy an Eagle rod. I know there are a lot of high horsepower cars with Eagle, but in my opinion they are a second class rod compared to Carrillo. Also Carrillo have the option of CARR bolts which are stronger than the ARP2000 bolts that most rods come with, you will snap the rod before the bolts break!

What sort of $$$ do Nissan charge? I need 1 on my 32 GTR too

My gizzmo boost controller runs a solid 22.4psi (what its set at), which is more than i can say about my old AVC-R. So i dont think the controller itself is at fault.

350hp From A $700 Ebay Turbo Td05h-20g
T-Rex replied to usmair's topic in Engines & Forced Induction
Having owned WRX's for 5 years and spending close to 20g on mods, i can tell you a 2000 WRX with an unopened engine will not be reliable over 220kw ATW. The TD05-20g can indeed allow 260kw, BUT thats on a built motor running lots of timing and over 20psi boost. There is nothing wrong with the TD05 turbo's, they are proven reliable, and have seen some quick 1/4mile times, breaking into the 11's etc. You do not have to buy a $4,000 name brand turbo to get a good turbo these days. -
My R32 GTR has the -7 and is putting out about 330rwkw @ 20psi. It runs a max of 22psi but i don't have a power figure on that, but it does feel much more powerful on 22psi.. Stock internals also.

Sounds like there could be a loose terminal on the battery or starter motor?

My R32 GTR has a small issue where there is quite considerable vibration through the car when its idling.. The steering wheel wobbles and vibrates, and if i have the windows half way down they rattle!! The engine itself is motionless and seems to idle smoothly. When driving there are NO vibrations, and when you free rev the car to around 1300rpm the vibration stops.. The normal idle is between 1,000-1,100rpm. Some info about the car would be helpful so here is the basics: Internally standard engine (AFAIK, was overhauled just before i bought it) apart from ARP head studs. Aftermarket Exhaust Coilovers (rock hard) Injectors (maybe causing the trouble??) Fuel pump Power FC Te rest of the parts shouldn't have anything to do with this issue There is also a faint noise on idle that sounds strange, nothing that you can really explain. My guess it is to do with one of the drive belts or pulleys So my question is, has anyone else had the vibration problem in a Skyline?
-
Ok thanks guys. My first guess would have been a press car, but it just didn't seem right with the personalised plates and all. So i'd say it was a JDM model. But i didn't think they were allowing compliance on them until after the ADM model was released because you can buy them for as little as $100,000!
