Thanks again D. I havent had much luck on the web, but have contacted the owners club in QLD. Am waiting for a reply. It's a 130. You can pick it by the J series 6, tail-lights, hubcaps, dash fascia (sp?) and the slightly Italian body shape. Just quietly I spent ages on the Planet Cedric website trying to tell the damn things apart! The range of very similar looking models from 62 to 66 huge! Deluxe, standard, special, super, wagon, VAN! 4's, 6's, 30, 31, 130... eek!

Thanks so much for the tips! I have to say that the things you have suggested are more realistic for me in terms of my slightly sorry-looking budget (stupid credit card!) I hear what you are saying about the carb, the "cedric special" of the same year was a twin-carb model churning out 123bhp! I have a reco'd single carb from my old L24, but am not sure if it could be adapted to the Cedric manifold without hurting my feelings.

Thanks for the interest all. Frustratingly I still havent picked up the car yet. This week the former owner will be in town to clean his crap out of the car and to hand over all the bits and pieces from his house. At this point I know the car will need: a muffler some rubbery bits under the car a tune up rego and RWC carpet and lots of love and attention to get it looking like a car again, especially that scrape down the rear door... Being the world's crudest mechanic, a car this simple has real appeal for me. As for the mods... First priority will be to get her going as is... but there is a jet black VW wagon running around where I live with the whitewalls, venetians and sitting on its guts that does look pretty sexy. Worse still my Crown-driving mate has just invested in a late-model supra engine for his 72 coupe. Maybe I am going to need the VQ41 after all lol!

Thought I'd add my bit. ATM Im having loads of fun with a twin-carb, mild head-and-cammed L26 in my C210, but as the others pointed out, upgrading the brakes, suspension and drivetrain was my first priority. At this point, If I had a couple of grand I would invest in triple carbs and nothing else. The car can fry tyres as is, cant imagine the handful it would be with triples. While the work so far has set me back a few grand, it is far less than the estimates for the RB conversion. By the way, if you decide you dont want to repair your car and it has to go, please PM me. Im sure I can find a happy home for it. Drew

There she is... scruffy, but totally restorable! This model was penned by Pinninfarina of all people. It seats 8. There is a pop up dickie seat that faces out the rear window, or the rear seats all fold down into a massive flat area. The tailgate window is electric and it still works! Woo hoo! Woo hoo! Anyone interested in a Datsun Fairlady convertible body shell and bits going cheap through the same seller should let me know. It'd make a great project too.

I'll post pics as soon as I get back to Melb and pick it up. It needs a bit of love and attention, so the first plan of attack will to get everything cleaned up and in good going order, then Ill start to assess what, if any modifications I'll make... although Im already having fantasies of lowering it and banging on a set of white-walls. Apparently it is pretty rare. I only know of 3 others at this stage.

Ok, ok, I know my new toy is not technically a skyline at all, but anyone interested in this really early Datsun 6 is welcome to contact me through PM, or at [email protected]. It's an awesome '65 Cedric station wagon, 109bhp, j series in-line 6, 3 spd man, one of 3 know in aust, and by the time I'm done it'll eat my best mate's Toyota Crown wagon of the same era - and that's the important thing. Naturally, if anyone has parts or info in relation to this rare beast you can be my new best friend. Cheers, D

1979 Skyline For Sale In The Trader L24et
coupe72001 replied to paulmac's topic in Classic & Vintage (1950's-1980's)
I hear you. So much for picking up a cheap and cheerful project. I guess $1,700 isnt exactly a fortune but sheesh... It looks a little bit like something you'd find on the side of the road with a council notice on it! Nice enough interior and all though... -

On the subject of 240k's becoming a more desireable these days, feel free to witness my humiliation on being outbid just about 2-fold on this little number. http://cgi.ebay.com.au/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vi...A:IT&ih=014 Never mind. There's a '63 Datsun Cedric down the road screaming out for a good home... Right, where's my credit card! -
Tappet Adjustment For L26
coupe72001 replied to coupe72001's topic in Classic & Vintage (1950's-1980's)
That would be great, nice one. Had a look at the L24 manual for fun, and it recommends: Cold In 0.008 Cold Ex 0.010 Hot In 0.010 Hot Ex 0.012 accompanied by a small illustration of someone setting the valve clearances using a feeler gauge, a bizarre looking service tool called st10640001 and an another unlabled, ambiguous tool (look mum; three hands!) Can anyone comfirm that the locknut can be undone with a spanner, the pivot screw adjusted with a screwdriver and the feeling done with a feeler gauge? I'd like to be properly prepped before I dive in. Thanks! -
Tappet Adjustment For L26

Cheers for that. -
Time to do the tappets on my car - they are getting a little noisy. It's an L26 with a mild E88 head. Not sure what the clearance should be - as its not the original engine, or if the mods to the engine even affect tappet clearance. Any clues are appreciated as always. Drew

1979 Skyline For Sale In The Trader L24et
coupe72001 replied to paulmac's topic in Classic & Vintage (1950's-1980's)
That's odd - dont know whats happened there. Just do a search for 240K in the search box of; http://www.autotrader.com.au it comes up in the used car section. You cant miss it. Big bronze, beautiful... and kinda expensive. The misnamed gold C210 that comes up on the same search is pretty cool too. That Gt-x is sure to make someone very happy. Count those webbers... drool... Now I want triples so badly. -

While we are on the topic of tradie gems, this 240k is pretty sweet. http://www.autotrader.com.au/iteminfo/adnu...subs_Used+Cars_ and as for this GT-X 2000... http://www.carsales.com.au/used-cars/priva...20&trecs=46 if I were a rich man... -
Hi Bobby, I just put some King Springs over pedders shocks for the front on ebay. They may not be ideal for your needs - having the shocks already and all, but Ill put them aside for you if your interested. Unfortunately someone bought the rear shocks and springs seperately for a trailer project! Drew

Hi, My friend is interested in the car. Could you PM a contact number - he does not have the internet. Cheers, Drew

http://cgi.ebay.com.au/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vi...A:IT&ih=006 I cant believe mr dog is parting with it. I have been drooling over his car since I joined Sau. On that note though, hope it sells and welcome to Melbourne. and Sloazr33, is Ken OK? That video is hilarious.

Mag86's Skyline Project
coupe72001 replied to Factory 5's topic in Classic & Vintage (1950's-1980's)
A, Will do. Ill have to bolt it into my car and test it first. I'd feel like an ass if I posted you one that was already knackered! Way off topic here, but who does your freighting D? I've been selling a few bits, like wheels, on ebay and finding someone to transport them has been a bit of a nightmare. -

I'd also look to shaving a small fortune off the bill by really hunting around for healthy second-hand tyres. (Try and find a set where 3 are great and 1 is burn-out bald!) Remember you can have different tread/sizes on the front and rear (but not left and right). Check the trading post, the yellow pages or even ebay. Fitting and balancing anywhere should only set you back $40. Be buggered if I'd blow $450 on a set of mediocre new michelins at Bob Janes! You can get super-high temperature gasket goo for exhausts from Bursons for about $17. If you cant get your OP sender to stop leaking I may have healthy spare too. Let me know. Good luck with it. -
Sorry if this is a stupid question but... was there a C210 model that came with rear disks, and if so, will I only need the trailing arms or will it also have the same toe setting issues as the Mr30? Thanks for the advice too!

Looking For L24, L26 Or L28 Engine Sydney
coupe72001 replied to NISMO's topic in Classic & Vintage (1950's-1980's)
If your L24/box is on it's way out, and it's the right price, is really is nice and fresh, and has well sorted twin carbies I'd really consider the L26; better head with bigger valves and pick of the cams, you can keep virtually everything off your L24 as a spare and its much better to do the box and block as a unit rather than seperately. Not to mention the relative ease of bolting it in. An L26 into a C210 was my first and only engine swap and I managed to do 99% of it solo, and Im known to be a truely crappy mechanic. You can save your cash for other bits... unless of course someone has a really sweet L28 for you, in which case I entirely agree with everything Mr Neck said above. -
I went to do the rear disk conversion on the C210 this weekend and came unstuck. The rear suspension arms from the rally car are somewhat bent, but my suspension arms dont have the 2 holes to mount the calipers. So... will suspension arms from another model fit (r30 possibly according to another thread?) or will I need the arms or the whole rear suspension assembly, or do I need something fabricated? The arms from the rally car were marked C210/C211 in paint pen, and looked identical except for the caliper mounting points. The good news is that I got the R180 LSD to bolt straight up. Banzai! Cheers.
