So your just sitting there holding the thing at 5k? Then just nailing it to the limiter? Or is it under load?

Which Has More Potential In The Long Run?
iplen replied to TurboDoseBro's topic in R Series (R30, R31, R32, R33, R34)
Marc and I don't agree to often, but yeah, RS2000 was RWD, RS 200 was not, mid engined 1.8 turbo, with 4WD, twin shocks and there was some sort of tricky gearbox too, dual range or something from memory. The Evolution was going to be 2l. Was released for the RAC Lombard at the end of 85, part way through 86 it was announced that group B was to be finished as well as Group S which was due to replace it, following the death of Henri Toivenen and Sergio Cresto as well as an RS200 crew after they ploughed into spectators. When Ford/cosworth were developing this thing they could not have cared less what a little tuning company in Aus was doing.. -
Driveline is weak if you abuse it, I had an 04 RS rally car, the process for changing up was at 6k, 200rpm short of the limiter I would kick the clutch pedal as hard as possible, and would have my foot off the peddle before it made the floor, and at the same time SMASH the next gear again as hard as possible. I would not lift a mm. That went for 8 events with no probs.. The big improvement you will notice is in the handling, compared to my 32 my 89 liberty wagon with WRX struts is SO much nicer into and through a corner it isn't funny, lighter in the nose so less understeer, lower centre of gravity and better weight distribution makes the car more predictable in the corner. As has been said it will not respond as well as the skyline to tuning. There is a big difference between how the cars are built, the abuse that Skylines will love will break a Subaru, but they also have their benefits. Handling is one, cost can be another, space/size and stigma would be debatable. I think the people suggesting Toyota might be on a more predictable/boring track, but Toyota is #1 for a reason..

6 speed may not change final drive much anyway, it will primarily fill in gaps, which with the torque that an 30/25 will make is going to be of little benefit, you may even find that on a track with the weight and extra changes you will go slower. But you did say that you were just after advice about which box to use, maybe a Supra box?
-
That blows about the motor!! Hope it all goes together for you (but I have no idea about fitting the box up sorry)
-
If you are talking auto then it is possible just not easy, manual yeah spend the 20k on a holinger

How Many High Rpm Launches Will A Gtr Box Take
iplen replied to zr200's topic in Suspension, braking, tyres and drivetrain
I wend to WSID running shitty Nexens and stock apart from boost, ran 1.6 60 ft all night by staging, loading it up, then sitting just off the take up on the clutch, on the limiter when ready I would slip the clutch really quick, no bangs or shudders just takeoff!! -

^ what they said, photo of the front of the exhaust cam please -
Well as it turns out... The front of the exhaust cam is destroyed, so timing could be moving anything upto 15 deg... Explains why performance has been all over the place
-
Wasn't a starfire in the Camira... Camira motor was actually a good thing, went on to power Calibras and astras even in BTCC, mid 80s from a single cam 1.8 they made 86kw... End of un-needed rant...
-
308 for sure, Unless you can get hold of a Dragon on e85
-
Okay, well my mechanic has no sense of adventure, so they are staying 0 until the dyno (possibly because I am racing him in his 180 tomorrow..) thanks anyway guys

3S is still iron? If you end up going the 20v route PM me, I need a blacktop front cut, but have no need for the motor/wiring or any of the gear you need
-
Good choice, heaps better than 32, just do it, if you are not mechanically minded, get a mate who is, or even put a shout out on here for someone to go shopping with you. Don't be scared of some mods, turbos for example, a pair of N1s are a reliability mod as much as performance. If you look after them they are fine, it is only if you don't that like any car they will bite, just a little harder than a commodore...

Which Has More Potential In The Long Run?
iplen replied to TurboDoseBro's topic in R Series (R30, R31, R32, R33, R34)
That was why I mentioned the Supertourers/BTCC, very tightly regulated and controlled, they wrote rules to hobble the 4WDs, then outlawed them. So in summary, OP, was it Tyres?, asked for opinions, my OPINION, Build a 4WD, which means if you want to restrict it to a Skyline GTR, but an Evo will make a better cheaper track car... Puts on Wizard hat and robe... Realises flame suit will do shit all on this one... -

Does anyone remember the super tourers of the mid 90s- early 00s? The weight penalties were something like FWD 0kg, RWD 50kg, 4WD 150kg... The group A GTRs had a massive weight penalty over the Sierras to start with but by the end of racing were carrying a heap more weight and boost restrictions that were not applied to the Sierras, anyone remember how that went? I am not going to get into science and big noting myself, because it is very simple, 4WD gives better grip, allowing you to use more HP, sooner. The rallying is very relevant simply because it highlights the difference by reducing the grip. I cannot think of a race series that allows 4WD where it is not unbeatable (no, I do not care about drag racing) -
Just got my adjustable cam gears from Just Jap, and will be fitting them over the weekend, looking through a few threads (trying to use the search function incase this has already been discussed in past seven years etc) the basics have been retard the inlet, advance the exhaust. Is there a pretty common degrees that works? I understand engines are different etc, but, the standard cam timing on these engines are identical, and the standard cams are all identical, so surely there is a pretty well recognised adjustment. Car only has -7s and exhaust/filters. It will be going for a PFC and tune soon.

A mate bought a "3076R equivelent" turbo off Ebay, the front is exactly the same size as another mates 3076R, but the back is smaller than my 2860-7s... fitted it to his RX7, after blowing the standard one, he went DOWN 50kw+, compared to the (smaller) 20 year old turbo that had been on there... Yes there is some good gear comes out of there, but in China they joke about stuff that is "MIC"- Made In China, and use it as a reason that something is poor quality...

Nissan Skyline Gtr R32 450Kw Potential Godzilla 1990
iplen replied to gtrsrule's topic in For Sale (Private Whole cars only)
He is talking flywheel Ash, so it is *almost* true.. But also not easily measurable. Truth be told it is potentially a 1500kw car. -

The problem with splitting a corner into 3 is that with a 4wd car you can accelerate much sooner than 2/3s through, pretty much get the nose in (lower speed than a RWD) then nail it so your straight is longer, and apex speed could be higher too. Slow in fast out.. FWD is the same, do all the work before the corner, enter pointing toward the exit, then your flat!! -
So If it is an Autech, that is not an Autech, but is kind of like an Autech...
