I used to tow my 32 footer (since sold) - but I kept an old V8 range rover (2.5 tonne) to do it.. Anything else 1) couldn't get it up the boat ramp, 2) would go sideways on the road if there was a cross wind, and 3) wouldn't pull it up a decent hill. I know this because my brother in law once tried to borrow the boat, using his falcon.... The moral is - be real carefull if you are pulling something heavy, independant of what your towbar is rated at!!!! Ian

Actually, there where a few different wheels on the R34.. On my R34 GTX I've got the (factory standard) AVS 5 spoke ones (8 inch rims), not the standard nissan 6 spoke ones that Alex now has.. I'll put a pic up soon (I'm in the middle of shifting the web hosting of my sites...) Ian

Prestige (melbourne) rang me back today to say they could only do up to 1500kg (their test machine could only certify up to that) but they have given me the name of someone else in melbourne who can do them much higher... Going to give them a ring tommorrow... too late for alex and co, and I still might be getting max to do mine anyway.. Was going to take the stagea up to sydney a few weeks ago (and was going to drop into canberra onthe way), but took the R34 skyline instead - as I haven't got the cruise control on the stagea yet (going in on friday)... Nah, that won't be me. Of course, if it is a young chicky neighbour, I'm happy for it to become me! Ian

And just for the people who don't know, that isn't me Ian

Why Dont People Look When They Reverse?
ian replied to Burns's topic in Four Door Family & Wagoneers
That's exactly what you should do. And any good place should be able to match it up 100% as well - I used browns down here in Richmond a few years ago with my metalic grey NXR, and it was a perfect job - you couldn't spot which panel they had done (and it was the same as yours, someone had backed into me). Yep, as per usua,l you are correct - tried it on a series 1 stage today and the things it could get were - Live Register,Description X00,RPM X01,RPM part2 X04,Airflow X05,Airflow part2 X08,Water Temp X09,O2 X0b,Speed km/h X0c,Battery X0d,Throttle X12,Exhaust Temp X13,Bit_Reg1 X14,Injection Time X15,Injection Time part2 X16,Timing (degree BTDC) X17,Idle Air Valve % X1a,AF Alpha % X1c,AF Alpha Learn % X1e,Bit_Reg2 X1f,Bit_Reg3 X21,Lean Finished.,Version 1.10 Where as the series 2 can get - Live Register,Description X00,RPM X01,RPM part2 X04,Airflow X05,Airflow part2 X08,Water Temp X09,O2 X0b,Speed km/h X0c,Battery X0d,Throttle X13,Bit_Reg1 X14,Injection Time X15,Injection Time part2 X16,Timing (degree BTDC) X17,Idle Air Valve % X1a,AF Alpha % X1c,AF Alpha Learn % X1e,Bit_Reg2 X1f,Bit_Reg3 X21,Lean X26,Tank Temp X29,Turbo Boost X3b,Unkown_X3B X3d,Unkown_X3D X3f,Unkown_X3F X40,Unkown_X40 X43,Unkown_X43 X44,Unkown_X44 X45,Unkown_X45 X46,Unkown_X46 X62,Unkown_X62 X63,Unkown_X63 Finished.,Version 1.05 ie includes the turbo boost, and a stack of other things that we don't know what they are (I'm hoping one is front/rear torque split Ian

Well, true it is 200kg lighter with the same NEO engine.. And it is actually quieter and smoother than the stagea... But you can't carry as much junk! Ian
-
But it would be too hard to decide between my 4 door silver R34 GTX, and my 4 (5) door bayside blue series 2 S stagea! What to take?? .. Ian

Not to hot for me, I like the heat! And the house will be at 22.5C regardless of the outdoor temperature anyway... Yep, I may have already found out what the problem was, but do need a sereis 1 stagea to test it on (works fine on my series 2). For those who weren't at the last melbourne get together - I brought my laptop along and tried it on all the cars. We had problems downloading the entire ROM with the series 1 stagea - my program was getting errors (as were other peoples program ie datascan was just hanging (as it does on about half the cars I try it on)). I think I've figured out what it was, and we are now getting rom downloads out of cars that nobody has ever been able to download from before... :-) I'll bring it along in two weeks as well - people can take it for a drive around the block and when they come back we can watch what they did without having to be in the car with them in the first place.... :-) Ian

sorry, haven't been home when it's been day light! I'll try this weekend.. Ian
-
I'll be there a bit early to get the fire going :-) - as anyone who went last time knows, I like fires.... (any comment muck?) So if you see a bayside blue series 2 you'll know you're in the right place. Mind you, if it is pissing down with rain, or 40C I won't be coming.. :-( Ian
-
My understanding is that it is illegal to do that (at least in Vic). Ian
-
don't forget to get the VIN stamped in (not required in QLD) if your plate is not held on by 'security' rivets... (I was caught out by it..) Ian

Alex is correct - the gauge is in 100mmHg (millimeters of mercury) thus they go from -700 to +700mmHg. Given - One atmosphere is 760mmHg, or 101.325 kPa, or 14.7psi Thus the gauge goes from -13.54psi to +13.54psi
-
alex, do you want me to come around on the weekend with my s2 and you can meassure a few things? Ian
-
So is it all working ie installed - if so do you want to put up some pics etc? It would be good to see before I do my S2! (and what is the wiring mod?) Don't all the S2's have a boost gauge as standard (mine does)? Ian
-
Not sure why - it's a pretty similiar drive! Why doesn't she like the wagon? It can't be size - there is only 10cm difference between my R34 and S2 stagea, can't be power - they both move pretty well, etc etc etc.... The main difference I notice is the turning circle of the stagea - it is noticeably larger - probably due to the front wheel drive limiting how much the front wheels can turn... Ian
-
So do you know what it is? Post a photo up of the board, and someone might recognise it..
-
Dr Drift can do it (daughter board tune) - and he has a new dyno going in in a few weeks time as well.. :-) Ian
-
If you want to test your cable, download the demo's that are already on my site. So far they have worked with both serial and usb (with serial adapter) cables. Should be more demo's up there soon. Ian
-
've been working with Dr Drift on some of this stuff, though not for the series 1 - I'll be putting the grid board in my S2 sometime fairly soon... If alex is ripping his out that will give us something to look at for the series 1! Alex, make sure you keep it!!! The S1 ecu has to be like something else! Alex, the main benefit of a remap is that you keep everything the same (ie factory standard) and just change the bits you need to. Thus things like the consult port, and more importantly all the diagnostics! still work, yet you can change all the engine settings... And you can take it straight back to factory default anytime you want (my new rom downloading program is getting ROMs out of cars better than anything else has by a long way :-) Ian
-
You'd be better remapping the standard ECU (ie daughterboard with EPROM chip).. Ian
-
You get a cable from http://www.plmsdevelopments.com/consult_if.shtml - but don't bother with the datascan software as it isn't very good. Mine (with real time charting, ability to replay logs, etc etc) is being tested now, should be read in another fortnight... It can save anything coming out of the engine, for as big a hard disk as you have on your laptop (ie longer than you could drive on a tank of fuel..) :-) It will be on www.iqconsult.net Ian
-
When are you heading out to do it again? Ian
