  1. ^those guitar shots are awesome! almost makes me miss playing... till i remember how bad i sucked anyway and cheers Matt. your right too, I should stop being slack and do a wide crop.
  2. any reason you set the white balance to sunny for the first two? it does show the difference between sunlight and tungsten white balance I guess. EDIT: ah lol, just had a look again... sunlight WB was probably the better choice for the first one as the sun hadnt totally left the sky, it would have come out very blue otherwise. ah yep, thought there would have been a good reason. i reckon it may have still worked out with the floodies in the shot, as long as you dont let them effect the overall exposure. kinda like contre-jour photos with the sun in the background, maybe, lol.
  3. i like the third cityscape 33driver. looks like you set the white balance right on that one. the other is a little too orange i think. i find that setting the white balance to tungsten works well. you will still get some lights looking orange, but overall its better balanced. were you setting white balance manually, or just using auto? the pink ferris wheel shots are nice. would be sweet if you got the whole wheel in. i know it can be a hassle tho depending on what kind of tripod head you have. I had a go at night HDR tonight. i reckon i needed one or two darker shots to fix a couple of spots that got burnt out. i also had to pull the 'shadow' slider right down to bring some darkness back into the sky, something else im hoping the extra shot or two under exposed may help? either that or i need to get organised earlier and catch some sunset colors, although this is facing south. will take a while to get the hang of it, have to wait till monday to try again, lol.
  4. you would think buildings over 10 stories high would have some form of protection around the roof perimeter, lol.
  5. on a pole - http://www.you tube.com/watch?v=1CDKePXxonA / http://www.you tube.com/watch?v=PhHeSpQ3vrQ mounted on the front / back of a snowboard - http://www.you tube.com/watch?v=iiH01qsKcpE / http://www.you tube.com/watch?v=LM1j-Epi_nE helmet cam (both forward and in reverse) - http://www.you tube.com/watch?v=WL7MeXzkh_o http://www.you tube.com/watch?v=TSYO0_5mg9E should give you a few ideas. let us know how you get on. (sorry, had to break links to post. copy/paste/edit and you'll be right)
  6. if they send me out a full HD cam with the LCD backpack i'd promote the shit out of them, haha. but check out GoPro Photos on facebook, some seriously epic shots can be taken with such a simple little setup.
  7. for close to that price you can still get some decent point and shoots with manual controls. not sure which would be best tho as ive only used the G11 and a cheap Lumix that doesnt have any manual controls.
  8. loving your light painting shots RM, keep it up! so many cool pics in this thread so far this month. lol, I actually quite like this photo of me. probably cause I cant see my face, haha. also love how the three buildings behind me just seem to melt into the sunset, lol
  9. nah, it came with a 14-40mm. they are all going out cheap as the e-pl3 has been announced. i still havent really taken it out and used it, i prefer the flip out screen on the G11. only bought it for higher quality fisheye photos anyway, so probably wont get used till i have the lens for it.
  10. ended up buying an olympus e-pl1 for $360. the lens i want tho is around $800 grey import (panasonic 8mm fisheye. half the weight of the olympus fisheye and doesnt need a 4/3 to micro 4/3 adapter saving $300). will be worth it for the higher quality of the pics once i have saved up enough. time to start trying to get permission to take shots from the higher profile buildings, not sure how that will go. have a feeling it will involve spending more money on roof access type safety courses tho, lol. would be worth it, would love to specialize in photography from high places. something about being high that fascinates me, im scared of heights, but am too addicted to give it up, lol. either that or i need to road trip to other cities for some rooftopping missions, lol and your right about that shot, i left it a bit late to get up there, i need to finish up half hour earlier and be up there ready. would also like to bracket it next time and do a night HDR so all elements are exposed properly. that burnt out statue irks me, lol.
  11. regular bike messenger photo spam post loving teh gopro, even for night shots. definately need a better monopod tho, the ol 790B is falling to pieces and is way too thin and flexy for what im doing.
  12. what features do you need? full manual control, RAW, video etc? Canon G11 (G12 is out now) is a kick ass point and shoot which offers RAW, full manual controls and has a hotshoe for off camera flash if you need. i have one and its a great little cam. maybe a bit large for a p&s cam, but the features make it worthwhile.
  13. my favourite is a regular bolt placed into the striker plate so the lock bolt cant close. another is simply using a rolled up piece of paper wedged in the doorframe to stop the door closing completely. always a good idea to have a few little magnets with you just in case there are reed switches, lol.. pretty much all over now tho, nothing worthwhile left to explore sadly. resuming boring life in 3, 2, 1...
  14. ^yep, thats the one. Sidd, I gain access by exploring. Some places its just a matter of lucky timing... I go up there at a time they forget to lock doors. simple as that really. would love to gain access properly to a few of the higher profile buildings and use a decent camera with a massive boom to get further out for crazier angles, but I'm not going to hold my breathe, lol.
  15. im using a GoPro, so not even a real camera, lol as for pointing it into the windows below... not sure i would see much other than a bunch of suits doing normal suit type things
  16. i sold my old D90 with over 80,000 actuations on it and it was still going strong.
  17. just a few more shots from work. not sure what im going to do when there is nothing left to explore. work will go back to sucking harder than a hoover on boost.
  18. cheers man, i want to take photos that make people physicaly ill. being scarred of heights myself i start getting headspins looking at some of the shots i have taken, haha. i could try upping contrast, but the source was from a gopro which arent really made for stills. been considering a micro 4/3rds setup with a proper fisheye lens. may have the opportunity to go abseiling to take some shots of some window cleaners in adelaide soon, if that happens then i'll be thinking about a new setup a bit more seriously.
  19. cheers dude. i should take a photo of the setup, but yeah the gopro is mounted on the end of a monopod. its a compact pod so only has a reach of 145cm. it does fit in my bag tho, folding up to just 39cm. i would love a stomping 192mm gitzo, but dont have a spare couple hundred bucks laying around, lol. need to work out a better ball head for this one, atm im just using one stolen off a cheap fold up table tripod form the 90's.
  20. yesterdays effort... been thinking about a micro 4/3 camera with a real fisheye lens pretty much just to get higher quality versions of shots like these. not sure if its a wise move getting into debt for such a stupid reason tho, lol. specially when i consider the fact that there is not a lot of adelaide left for me to explore, haha. i needs a bigger city, rofl!
  21. cheers. i was considering b&w due to the lack of color in the pic, but im lazy, lol. as for access to other buildings, most times i gain access by stealth so i dont get a lot of choice as to what rooftops i get onto, haha
  22. would love to get the camera out further, i need a longer pole (thats what she said! lol)
  23. nice one! would love to give a home made dolly a try. been keen on making a budget steadycam also
  24. no such things in adelaide. we prefer to just have everyone driving like retards on over congested roads not fit to handle the traffic volumes they experience on a daily basis
  25. there was two more in the back seats. i started wondering if maybe the driver was off looking for some fish or something, haha
