    cams license

Hope you don't mind if I jump in here, but is the licence renewal (and SAU membership for that matter) expire at the end of each year, or is it due for renewal 12 months after purchase? It used to be the case where it expired every december, but that was years ago now...
  5. I would just like to let you all know that the 4dr R32 tow bar bolted up perfectly to my 2dr R32 GTSt. Thanks Primo!
  6. nope, same as falcon. I think the offset is very different tho, but you could probably find a FWD pattern such as 5 stud magna etc that would work. I have a set of 17in wan li tyres you can have for burnouts for the princely sum of a slab of beer
  7. I'll be punting my GTS around some tracks soon so we'll see. It probably wont have the straight out grunt that the Toyota Crown had down the straight of eastern creek (it managed 210ish) but it should be a lot quicker over the whole circuit. I only managed a 205 sec lap at eastern creek and a 57.2 sec lap of oran park south in the Crown, so I'm hoping I can do a LOT better in the GTS.
  8. Is it possible to get a tow bar for my R32? Will an R31 one fit? I need to move a box trailer around and cant justify a second car just for a tow bar...
  9. ford made a V4 back in the 70's for the capri, granada and transit and it was a piece of crap of a motor. porsche never ever made an inline six. they were either a flat six, inline four, flat four or V8. the Wankel roatary engine was originally a design for a water pump.
  10. if pistons 1 3 4 and 6 are at TDC all together it's because something in the motor has gone horribly horribly wrong generally, firing order on an inline six is 1, 5, 3, 6, 2, 4, but remebering that they are paired together, so that 1 and 6 are at the same position in the bore as each other, 2 and 5, 3 and 4 so on. it's the camshaft that determines whether or not each piston at TDC (Top dead centre, or the highest point in the bore) is actually at it's compression stroke or exhgaust stroke. remember folks, it's Compression, Ignition, Combustion, Exhaust (Or Suck, Squeeze, Bang, Blow if thats easier to remember ) The V means the motor is in a V shape, with 3 pistons on each side. this makes it easier to fit in small engine bays, but the downside is they vibrate and therefore engine harmonics is poor. This can be compensated with a balance shaft or a bloody big harmonic balancer on the front to soak up the vibration. it also takes a lot more machining to make and can be expensive. an inline motor, all pistons are in a line one after the other. an inline motor is very bulky and needs a long engine bay. but vibration is minimal, except with big revs, when the crank can actually start to flop around like a skipping rope. again a harmonic balancer is used if the motor is prone to this. (modern motors dont usually have this problem anymore, it's mainly old motors with big crank journal spacing that did this)
  11. Finally! after all the RTA stuffing around I have been enjoying my fully regoed R32 GTSt! Man it's fun to drive! Now all I have to do is de-rice it It does however have some strange sounds from the cabin, I have never heard these sorts of sounds coming from the inside of a skyline before... sounds just like Midnight Oil and Cold Chisel :bahaha:
  12. im paying $970 to have my R32 GTSt insured for $13k through Shannons. one benefit of not living in sydney and being over 30 green slip was $270 from AAMI
  13. Stock R32 wheels and tyres needed in Newcastle!! I need to fit them up so it will pass RTA blue slip inspection, anyone got a set I can buy or borrow?!?
  14. A few people have decided that a 2JZGTE GTR is the ultimate car
  15. the 3.0L twin turbo 2JZGTE motor is possibly the best engineered inline six built to date that is affordable. It has probably the best power to capacity ratio of any of the six cylinders available today, and are also a damn reliable bit of gear. there is also a lot of jap aftermarket support for them too (which is not necessarily a good thing considering not all the jap spank makes things go faster). All the RB26 fans will be in here in 1/4 of a second to defend the nissan stuff, so it boils down to you researching all the options yourself and deciding what is the best for you. an RB will always be an easier conversion into a skyline for example, but last time I priced an RB26 GTR motor it was twice the price of a 2J.
  16. $3k for an auto front cut, $7k for a manual front cut (6 sp gearbox). they are found in MKIV supras and Aristo's (GS300 Lexus). Rollin imports in QLD seem to be consistently the cheapest.
  17. so much easier for people to steal it from you too~! what a nice guy, helping thieves out like that
  18. I find brand snobbery pretty stupid. I buy what is good and good value for money. if a $200 turbosmart item does the same job as a $600 HKS part, you'd be an idiot to buy HKS. a $50 super turbo muffler does just as good a job and sounds (IMHO) just as good as some of these $500 fart cans, so it's unlikely I will ever ever buy some spanky can when I can keep the money in my poket for useful things (beer)
  19. Part of the problem is that neither ford or holden are australian owned, and most of their styling and manufacture and engineering is dictated by their american parent companies (holden in particular) and americans being americans do not understand or accept that the rest of the world has different requirements to them, and that we dont like crappy engineering hand-me-downs. Good on Ford Oz for sticking it up Ford USA when they wanted to shaft them for the last large car RWD platform Ford makes
  20. akeenan and RB26, are you trying it with the car already running? bzzt..... with the motor OFF put it in 1st gear, hand brake off, feet off the pedals. NOW crank the car over with the key, you will find the starter motor has enough torque to move the car along, and once the motor fires, the car has enough momentum to let the motor run and kick itself along. hell, if my old sigmas and galants could do it, it'd be a piece of cake for a modern car to do it. Remote starts are the dumbest inventon ever, with the exception of snow countries. The idea is that when the car is covered in a half foot of snow, you can remote start it and let it warm up while your still nice and warm in your house. kinda a waste of effort in Oz.
  21. FWIW I couldnt buy a stock paper filter for my R32 GTSt but I discovered that it's exactly the same as a VL commodore/RB30 skyline filter. Dunno if anyone else has come across this or not.
  22. heheh I do that too, but only if they are trying to stir me for a race and are a car load of idiots. I have seen quite a number of speed cameras on epping rd, usually at the bottom of one of the dips. last one was across the road from the shell. down the epping end.
