  1. $7K on go fast bits only will probably give you the immediate 260-280rwkw on an RB25. but what is an rb25det and box worth? plus labour for fitting? surely that is about $5K on it's own.
  2. if you are doing an engine transplant - why RB25. rb30/26 or RB26 will better handle the 350rwkw goal.
  3. well if the exhaust all of a sudden got really loud and struggled and no boost etc I'd say that you should at least visually check and feel that all the bolts are on the manifold to block and turbo to manifold and turbo to dump pipe. If you lost all boost and got really loud, I'd take a guess that the manifold to block connection is fubar. this would mean.. no exhaust gasses to turbo = no boost. exhaust gasses escaping between block and exhaust manifold and not getting to turbo and exhaust would mean all that sound escaping without any muffling = loud exhaust sound. there is a heat shield and stuff in the way so you won't be able to check it too easily without removing the heat shield (only a few bolts of which most bolts will break off) I can't remember how many bolts/nuts there are for the manifold to block connection. search for pics of RB20/25 manifold and you should be able to see how many holes there are and therefore how many bolts you were supposed to have. the manifold might even be cracked.. OBVIOUS NOTE: if you are going to remove any bolts from that area. 1.) do it when the motor is cold. 2.) spray ALOT of wd40 on to all the bolts the night before you work on it and keep spraying some the next day when you want to remove the bolts. it will help them come off a little easier (still bloody hard though). 3.) Keep tissues, detol and banaids near by for your knuckles.

  7. don't bother man.. gearbox will break at that sort of power. besides, there are already profesional backyarders that are doing that for us subbie guys in qld.. http://www.amauto.com.au/ and that guy to subbies is like sydneykid to RB's. not only that, he just squeezed a 2J in to a mx71(I think that's it.. the old boxy one) cressida dubbed the cressie of death. all up including the car the total cost was about $7K that included fmic, some turbo the size of his son. and all other bits. I'd definitely suggest a JZ in to something. have you thought about a 1jz in to an E36 Beema..??

  9. an exhaust leak would be more obvious when cold. the metal (manifld, gaskets etc) all expand a little with heat and the exhaust leak will not be as noticible and if small enough, not there at all. then you will hear it again after the car has cooled a little and you turn it back on. since your one came back later in the drive like when you were near work, I'd say it's something other than a leak. also, if it had a small leak to cause a ticking on idle, it would mean that you would hear a really loud shreeking screaming sound when on boost as it will really leak from there. does the ticking increase a decrease with revs? as in tick tick at idle becomes a faster ticking at say 2000rpm? It sounds like a/the lifter/s to me. search for "ticking lifters" maybe something will come up. they can be removed and serviced but I don't think it's easy

I know what I'm talking about and being a smart arse. if you think that your RB25 makes 300rwkw using standard capacity and a GT35 on 10psi, you're either a YANK or you're confuisng KW with HP. Maybe you should have your "seat of the pants" dyno re-calibrated.

  16. I can't remember.. they do get some perks but they are definitely not getting paid what they are worth. Most of the time, overtime is paid as time off, which they can't take cause they are understaffed. the shit load of paperwork for everything they do is not worth the money they get paid either. nor is the shit they put up with from attitudes like some on here. anyway.. so who was the cop?

  20. look 2 posts up where that guess was shut down. I'm guessing that was second gear. 47kms, 3000 something rpm. plants it and goes through to 120 something kms and 9000rpm. rb25 would have been wheel spinning like a lebo at a wedding. rb26 would have been wheel spinning like a lebo with his mates egging him on at a wedding. rb20 would go chirp then continue to rev, rev, rev, rev limiter. and listening on headphones it definitely sounds like a 6 and not a fart.. I mean 4.

I think a perfect CHEAP upgrade (much like a rb25 turbo on an RB20) for a 300zx is 2 S15 turbo's (which are about $900 new I think and probably around $400 for used), AND, a pair of R34 GTT intercoolers in place of the stock 300zx ones. If these little coolers are good for about 200-220rwkw on an RB20/25, then considering they'd only be cooling 1.5L worth of air each, they'd be plenty good for the s15 turbos on each side of a VG30dett. I'd really like to buy a 300zx. but it will have to have receipts for a complete HKS hose kit at least.
  22. I believe John from UAS had S15 turbo's on his Slot car for a while. Made some stupid amount of power. GTR turbos would be a downgrade to what the stock 300zx ones are.

I was under the impression N1 oil pumps flow "LESS" than factory ones. they are designed for constant hi revs. and being that the RB's all have oil control problems, where by too much oil gets pushed to the head, the N1 designed for that sort of situation flows LESS. Same goes for the N1 water pumps compared to other RB water pumps.

  25. I did.. that's the price you normally see on 318is or 320i - 90-92 models. you're car is very well priced. I'm sure it will sell quick. Good luck., It looks great.
