Got My R33 Tuned With Hypergear Tr43i Turbo Results
l_uk3y replied to boostn0199's topic in Engines & Forced Induction
Of course response is not going to be as good as a stock turbo. But its also ballpark 80rwkw more then a stock turbo Considering the price tag required to get 265rwkw compared to other brand new turbos to hit similar power. Yes response isn't going to be quite as good. But 4000rpm certainly isn't over the top laggy. And there's a massive difference between $1300ish and $4000ish give or take. I guess the only other thing that will interest me is how long they last given correct treatment (boost, cool down etc). Luke -
Your Motorsport Plans For 2010?
l_uk3y replied to hrd-hr30's topic in Motorsport Discussion & Builds
Nice and simple plan here. Like to attend my first track day. Most likely a winton fun day. Although I'll be trying to keep an eye out for other Vic events that cater for beginners whom want to race there car but still have it in enough pieces to drive home. Luke -
I dont really go into the "I'm sick of this Im selling it" side of things. I more get the. "I wish I saved for an extra 12 months and got a GTR" . But then i say. I'd do it now but i've already spent about the same or more as the purchase price in aftermarket bits. And feel im too far into it to bail. I keep the car because at the end of the day. It is family now, and the reason I put myself and my bank account through it. Well. I might need a Psychiatrist to answer that. Cuz it is sorta crazy when you think about it. Finally get it back together after having it off the road for a month or 2. Then after a week pull it back down for something else. Never ending. People are asking me now if i've sold it because its so long since they have seen it. Best moments. A few. -The day i drove the car after 5 months of coilpack problems with a new set of splitfires. That was good. -Driving the car on the 2 hour trip home after I bought it. (Felt amazing after coming from a 1.8 lancer at the time) -The day I first broke into the 13's at Heathcote Park. That feels like forever ago now. -The current turbo install i'm doing. Quite enjoying and its by far the biggest DIY job ive ever attempted Worst moments. Also a few - Took a long time to diagnose an issue which turned out to be broken studs on exhaust manifold causing leak - Looking back at how much work ive put in and what I've spent and the car doesnt look "Magazine worthy" and people don't seem to notice the effort (Just a rubbish Import). - Feeling the constant fear of being defected every single time I leave the shed. Still to be decided but hopefully great moments coming up in 2010 at some point - The 2 hour trip home after the Turbo gets tuned - First ever track day (circuit) - Winton most likely Luke

This is looking like its going to be awesome when its done. Nice choice on all the parts. Got any photos showing the bulk of the Roll cage setup? And are the diffusers installed yet? If so i'd love to see how they ended up. Cant wait to see more. Luke

Hey guys. Just trying to get a bit of an idea how much people would charge for a 2nd hand turbo. My goal is to buy a Turbo and get it really cleaned/ possibly polished for use in my Display Case. I would consider anything of decent size as long as it looks fine. I don't care less if the internals are non existant (although i would like the intake side prop to be in decent condition as it would be visible). Interested in buying if the price is respectable. So if anyone is looking to scrap a tired turbo. Let me know a price and send some photos and i'll consider taking it off you. I'm Located in Bendigo. Victoria if it helps. Cheers. Luke

There has been too many theft stories lately to just leave it out there to fend for itself. Unless your a very keen fiddler with security systems I would be too keen leaving it out on the street. Even then I still wouldn't be keen as theft isnt your only concern. Just as many people would deliberatly/unintentially damage it. At the end of the day it comes down to how much your car means to you. If you get nervous at the thought of a door dent at a supermarket then I would look at a nice garage before getting the GTR. Is it just me or does that car look like the toughest Honda you've ever seen? I'd hit it. -
Got My R33 Tuned With Hypergear Tr43i Turbo Results
l_uk3y replied to boostn0199's topic in Engines & Forced Induction
Sounds really good. I'll be getting it tuned at Race pace. Just waiting on some gaskets that are on order for mine. Who really cares about such a small percentage of power for the sake of long term reliability. Good decision. Glad to hear some good results with the turbo as they seem like a really sensible option for price and they look really good uninstalled Luke -
I used the black mesh from Autobarn on mine. Cut the overall size plus a fraction extra. Bent the outside bits over and sikaflexed. Never had any issues with it (maybe 2 years old now), and being black it doesnt look cheap.

Got My R33 Tuned With Hypergear Tr43i Turbo Results
l_uk3y replied to boostn0199's topic in Engines & Forced Induction
Im still let to finish installing mine with the .63 housing. Seeing those results has gotten my hopes up as that is spot on my target. (mod list close to identical). I'm pretty sure mines the newer version though. So you haven't got to drive it yet then? Shame. I'd love to hear feedback on how it comes onto boost (odviously slightly laggier then standard), and if the turbo spool sounds different compared to the stocko. Luke -
Yeah. Dont bother taking it off unless your going to replace it. If your changing turbos and it doesnt fit back on, once again. Find a replacement

Should notice it more after a decent front mount intercooler. Also for your info regarding being pissed off about 5-7psi. When I got my power fc tuned I got some pre tune results on stock ecu. My 33 made about the same power on 8 psi as it did on 11 psi (except 8psi gave much more midrange power due to ecu). More boost isnt always more power if everything else isnt sorted. If its manual i'd look at a power fc. Although theres options galore these days. If you can make the same power on 9 psi as you can on 12. Go for it, things will last much longer. Start at page 1 on Forced induction. Flick through the topics until you hit about page 20 or so. You should be able to find a few topics on most of your current questions + future questions there. Cheers. Luke

Dont bother taking the car to get tuned at this stage. Your next step would be to look at intercooler, and the front half of the exhaust (dump pipe through to Cat convertor). Then look at an Engine management solution (including tuning) Is it manual or automatic? (I haven't had a lot to do with r34's but i believe the Auto transmissions have special circumstances when it comes to ECU changes??) Either way i'm sure somebody else will respond regarding that. (or search the site on the topic) For boost control, I personally wouldn't bother at this stage (others will argue). Once you change the rest of exhaust and the cooler your boost will creep up not that far from the lower end of the safe limit of the turbo anyway. For coilpacks. I personally recommend Splitfires. Solved all my missfiring dramas instantly. (never used any other aftermarket brand for compare though). Cheers. Luke

If your hitting boost at 6000rpm then something is either wrong, or you would be expecting massive power levels from a very large turbo. Regarding quality of tuners besides all the good hype you hear about croydon. They suggested a few options to fix the problem, have you looked into these? Wouldnt hurt to get the timing checked, itd be great if it was a simple fix. I remember when I got my first tune at Racepace. Ben asked me who installed the Blitz EBC after he had finished tuning, I said me, he said. We couldnt get it performing right so we have disconnected it, replaced it with this (a piece of piece of aluminum tube with a hole in it). Here is a boost curve showing how they compared (much earlier boost + held on better at the top). I walked away thinking, well I cant argue with that. Perhaps Croydon could have done more (without knowing the whole story), but if they suggested what avenues you should look into, then maybe that would be a good idea. Its not like they have never seen an RB before. Luke

I'am Now A Proud Owner Of A Stagea 260rs
l_uk3y replied to e-clip's topic in Four Door Family & Wagoneers
That was my first thought also. If its anything like mine, if you ride it at all (particulary noticeable in reverse) it will shudder and feel all round nasty. Also if its a button clutch it will wear out quickly by riding it. Unless it is a mechanical fault, just play around until you find the sweet spot or if it really bothers you, put a new clutch higher on the priority list. (At least then you will know what you have). Is the car standard? Have any pics? Luke -
2 places you can put it. - In the Xmas returns list OR remove your factory bov. (Should just be able to unbolt) Then bolt the new one in the same place. If it is a recirculating bov then reconnect the hose that goes from the bov then reenters near the turbo. If it is atmospheric then just block that hose off.

Hey guys. Just a quick question regarding upgrading steering wheels. Now its to suit an Airbag equipped R33 gts-t so odviously any replacement MUST keep the airbag just to be difficult. (Personally I am a bit anti airbag as they are dependent on where your sitting as to getting the timing right) Either way. I would love to get something that has a bit nicer feel then the ol factory series 2 steerer. However trying to find a list of decent alternatives appears difficult. Off the top of my head Isotta is about the only one i can think of. Just wondering if anyone knows any alternatives. How different are the wheels that come on R33 GTRs and are R34 wheels compatible? Surely somebody on here has upgraded over factory. (without going for a non airbag version) lol Cheers for any guidance. Luke

Nissan Skyline "godzilla" Gtr R32
l_uk3y replied to GTRClintR32's topic in For Sale (Private Whole cars only)
Car looks nice as. No offence but you do only need one thread to sell it though. Luke -
Merry Christmas to all. Been a terrible year personally. So i have high hopes for next year so bring it on. Only thing left now is to endure "Whole Family day" usually a nightmare as all the relations seem to compete for superiority. Even funnier is my wife is making a trifle. As of today another relation changed there mind and is suddenly making one as well. Now my wife can be very stubborn and DOES NOT lose. This could be quite amusing. I do wonder why they all need to try and be the best/smartest etc. I'm sure at least half of family's do it though. Luke

I have heard numerous reports that they have good pricing but fairly average service and connections drop out a bit. But i have never had any experience personally with them so I cant confirm this. Luke

I'm starting to get excited bout this coming out. A few more months is fine, as long as they get the game spot on. Downloaded GT Academy this morning. Must say i love the sound of the gearbox whine on the tuned car. Might need a new TV with 1080 to make the most of the game though. For me personally. The number 1 concern I have is what they do with the Modification system in the game. After prologue Ive been worried they would swap the system over to that lame power up by 20%, weight down by 10% rubbish. This would really put me off the game bigtime. Im hoping they use a GT4 type system but much more comprehensive where you buy individual parts of different levels. Then they move the power band around suitably, even effects like clutch slip if your power exceeds your other mods just like reality would make for an awesome feature. 1 thing I'd keep from prologue is keeping a decent group of races using a points system (albeit with the much nicer mod system) to keep certain races as close as possible. (Yes sometimes you don't want to race a 600kw GTR against stocko Hybrids Sadly my idea of a mod system with clutch slip, brake fade and overheating are probably just a dream. Maybe in 30 years time with Gran Turismo 7 or 8 at the rate they are going. Luke

That sounds like the go. I only have the net at my parents or father in laws. We are going to get rid of pay tv and use the money to get the internet at home. Its hard to get a decent comparison purely looking at price lists. Might look into iinet Cheers. Luke
