  1. I have a problem with my car over fueling on start up, which then starts to foul the plugs until it warms up and then clears itself which can take up to 5 minutes of driving. The motor is an RB20DET Nics with an R33 Turbs with and 100 x 300 x 80 FMIC with 2 1/2" piping. this has only happend since I put the cooler & turbo on. My Auto elec is stumped at what could cause it to over fuel his only theory is at start up there is no Vacuum, so the motor get a gut full of fuel and no air due to the cooler/piping length causing them to foul. Has any one else had this problem and if so how did you fix it.
  2. So War speed what you are saying is 12:1 is for max power or performance and 14:1 is for optimal economy? Sydneykid, I have a new O2 sensor and temp sensor so have ruled that out I am runinig NGK BCP 6ES-11 plugs. so may go to a 5 I have a SAFC and get no knocking readings on 13:1 even under load. I am running a RB25 Turbo on an RB20 NICS motor with only 5 psi boost (stock) and a 600 x 300 x 80 FMIC. With the acuracy the setting were with a probe in the exhaust while on a dyno? Even the Dyno guy wanted to set my tunnig to 14:1, so this has realy got me thinking.
  3. I have read and there seems to be a belief that 12:1 is the A/F ratio that you should use when tunning an RB engine, My problem is My car was tuned using 12.9 and it runs as rich as and is fowling plugs I had it tuned again with 13:1 mixtures it is slightly better but my plugs are still black and sooty. I must admit I dont drive the car on long trips or hard, only short ones which may be causing the problem. Would I be better to change plugs to hotter plugs because of my driving conditions/style or just have it tuned close to stoich 14.7? I am runnig an SAFC. Or can it be somthing else causing the plug fowling?
  4. I am about to do a coil pack conversion on my RB20NICS as the Coil packs are getting on in age. I will be using a EL Ford coil pack which will have a wasted spark sytem. can anyone see any problem in using this, or has done this to there own car and what type of coil pack did you use?
  5. Arh Ok your talkin about the silver top ECCS not the redtop ECCS thats a different kettle of fish. I cant comment on the Silvertop. I do know they had a way better inlet plenum and may have differnet cams etc, so he may be right if they are talkin about the Silvertop. there is about a 20fwkw difference over a stock standard NICS. But as said above I got 134rwkw out my nics with just a R32 turbs and a good tune with a SAFC, so you can get some good power out of one. Their downfall is the pissy little turbo they run stock
  6. With the R32 turbs 3" system standard intercooler and a SAFC i got 134rwkw. I have just put on a RB25 Turbs and FMIC, but havnt got it tuned properley. Hoping for around 170rwkw
  7. Turbo and intake manifold are about the only diff. When I got my GTS-X I could not work why everyone use to bag the nics as mine went fine, later found out mine had a R32 turbs on it
  8. If your after external coils have a gander at this site. A Kiwi is selling kits for RB engines http://gdz1la.kol.co.nz/prod01.htm
  9. With the defamation, If you say anything about anyone they may take you to court, it up to you then, to prove you are right, so if you have an engineering degree and other engineers to back you up you may have a chance. The whole point is this forum does not want to even get that far, so it way easier to not say anything, than go down the litigation path. There is no such thing as free speech any more as there is always someone out there wanting to sue your ass off.
  10. Call me stupid but why are they tuned to 12.1:1 when stioch is 14.7 isnt that still running rich? does boost have that much effect on ratios?
  11. Im in Bendigo there would be about 15 or so R32 and R33 and 3 R31 coupes here
  12. I think I will get a wide band sensor and gauge and add it into the pipe, just before the cat. How do they go with the heat from a Turbo?
  13. I was talking to a Mech yesterday on getting my car dyno tuned and he said you cant do it properly if you place the probe into the end of the exhaust, as when the cat warms up and is at operating temp it shows an incorrect ratio. He said the only way to do this is to drill a hole and weld a nut in the pipe in front of the CAT and place the probe there. Has any one done this? Also does the probe have a screw in adaptor if so what size nut would be needed? Cheers
  14. Why they made the statement of them leaking is that as injectors get old and wear the carbon seals the wear points, so after cleaning them hence removing the gum that seals them they can then leak. When mine were done there was up to a 10mil flow difference in some, on the flow bench. One leaked so had to be replaced. This was on my GTS-X that has done 161,000 ks
  15. The info you have is spot on, I used to race Go-Karts and the principals are the same, Just use very cheap crappy mineral oil the cheaper the better this will make the rings bed into the bore and give a good seal, and if not using a Dyno to run in Just vairy your Revs used around town startin off by not going over 3000 to 4000rpm for the first 100ks. do not run it in by cruising there must be constant variation in revs.
  16. Every one knows about GTS-R's in Australia, but there are records of Nismo putting out a R31in limited numbers. Does anyone have any info on them, and how to tell one from an average GTS/GTS-X?
  17. They will fit straight into a RB20 Redtop as they are low impedance, but not a silvertop as they run high impedance just make sure you get the RB26 resister pack with them and you will be fine.
  18. I know this is digging up an old thread, but I thought the paper clip trick only reset the diagnostics (this needs to be done after replacing a faulty componant) mode not the actual ECU (learning). Droppng power to it and draining off any power by pressing the brake or leaving over night is the only way I know..
  19. I bought a Greddy S type BOV and whish to know if anyone else has one, and how did they mount it onto a R33 crossover pipe, adaptor or other wise. I also need to know where to get a plumbback adaptor to screw into the front, so if anyone knows were I can get one of these also would be apreciated.
  20. Great place if you want your car cannaried by the cops.
