Quicker Steering For Skylines?
PM-R33 replied to PM-R33's topic in Suspension, braking, tyres and drivetrain
Wait up i'll go try and find the printout. EDIT: Ok I think this was the last one I had done. Castor I have set at +7.45 left and +7.14 right. Front camber I have -1.52 left and -049 right. Toe on front I have +0.04 left and right. So should I pull this in a bit? Toe on rear I have -0.04 left and right. Rear camber I have -1.37 left and -1.32 right. -
Jesus christ that is scary. Seriously, i'm going to be that dickhead you people hear about next week that got killed trying to save his car from going under water lol. "Holy shit, isn't that Phil screaming and waving his hands near that....oh crap." *Runs to garage to adjust Tein suspension to maximum height*

Quicker Steering For Skylines?

Well there you have it. Some one manufacture/source out an easy swap over steering ratio for Skylines and they will sell like hotcakes! -
Quicker Steering For Skylines?
PM-R33 replied to PM-R33's topic in Suspension, braking, tyres and drivetrain
Yeah castor definetely helps, I have mine set to maximum with the Whiteline bushes. Not sure if the GTR one is any different? A good example is watching JGTC interior video clips when they race. They barely ever go more than a 90 degree turn of the steering wheel. -
Quicker Steering For Skylines?

Now we're cooking -
Yep body earths. I had a quick look at the loom in my car. I now realised that you ment that they are "part of" the loom that go to the positive on the fuse box, but you didn't mean it actually was that wire.

Quicker Steering For Skylines?

Ah yep I noticed that on the BMW that the steering changed a hell of a lot while going at low speeds. Definetely a lot of interesting suggestions. Glad i'm not the only one that has thought about doing something like this -
REAR KIT UPDATE Just thought I would update on what we are doing with the rear as the handbrake is causing this to be a pain in the ass. Basically here's what I have found: The option with having the drum handbrake completely dissapear and replaced with an additional single piston caliper is going to cost a lot of money (way more than the front kit) and also not really be suitable for people doing Motorkhana events. The drum handbrake setup is apparentely a lot better for this. Also even if money wasn't an issue, to get it to work with the Skyline rear is a challenge in it self and may not work with out a bit of modifying. So I don't think this option is viable for a group buy situation. The next option was to build the handbrake into the main caliper itself as Wilwood have one caliper that does this. With this I have found that first of all the Skyline handbrake setup is not directly suitable and would once again have to be modified to fit correctly. Next the calipers are very small and not made for large rotors and also for such large/heavy cars. Also they don't make a good variety in piston area so to get something that would work in harmony brake balance wise would also be difficult. Overall it once again aint a viable solution. The final option is to keep the drum handbrake, but once again there is a problem. Wilwood do not make a rotor to suit our drum handbrake. So this is my solution that I am currently looking into which should work well and be the cheapest option. We shall use a DBA 4000 series wiper-slot rotor suited for a Skyline hand brake and to this we shall match a Wilwood 4 piston caliper. The largest they seem to list for the Skyline rear is 300mm x 22mm which is what is on the Brembo R33/R34 GTR (GTST/R32 GTR has 297mm x 18mm). However I can email them to see if they do a little larger diameter. I just have to confirm piston area size on the factory rears so I can mate up the correct Wilwood caliper suited and also suited for the rotor size. If all goes well and I can match something up the rear kit should easily be between $1000-$1500. So I will give an update as soon as I get more information

I originally thought earth aswell since I know there are earths at that location on the loom, but he said they are coming from the positive on the fusebox. Only thing I can think off on the side of the engine that has live power is the starter motor?
-
Yeah it is ment to be. Problem with me is if my car got written off, the payout they would give me is around 1/4 of what the thing owes me and I would die inside. Also I am ment to be selling my motorbike this Friday, so i'm praying to god nothing happens to it. I managed to squeeze it into the garage between our two cars. My old man couldn't pull that off at his place though so his bike is now in the dining room lol.
-
I think they go to the starter motor. That's the only thing I can think of off of the top of my head.
-
Yeah in all honesty the price is an absolute steal. I am blown away by the asking price.

I didn't really mean it literally, just trying to make a point. Yes 50% was a bit of an exageration for most cars. However some get close, 335i from around 188rwkw stock to 270rwkw can be achieved with basic intake/tune mods (on E85 or with water meth 290-300rwkw) BF XR6T is similar with even bigger increases. But yeah, I more so ment with modern cars a bit of a tune and exhaust/intake mod is all you ever need to do as the power increase is substantial and for most people more than enough to use in a nice comfortable package. Yeah you can get manual locally however most are the normal paddle shift autos, however the 7 speed dual clutch is what most people want (but is a large cost). It really is fantastic though. See with the afterkmarket parts thing I don't think it is all that bad. Sure in Australia the prices are extreme, but that is because there isn't a big enough market. You look at prices in the US/UK or Europe and it aint really that different to parts for a new Commodore/Falcon here. Also these type of cars are new, so parts will always be expensive and not much choice relative to parts for a 20 year old car. Think about the R35 GTR, parts are very expensive for it at the moment, yet I bet when the R32 GTR was new, parts for that would have cost even more so. Also with the heat thing BMW Performance actually make a performance package which includes a bunch of cooling gear and retune to get more power very safely. Esentially that is the difference between the 2011 model 335i N54 and the 2007-2009 model 335i. The 2011 has this package on it. (The 2010 model single turbo N55 engine has been dropped and they have gone back to the N54 - long story lol). Oh definetely, there really is a bunch of great cars made over the last 5-10 years that I am looking forward to coming down in cost and having a good choice from.

Yeah I heard a lot of the mines have shut down and evacuated. They started doing mandatory evacuations in Townsville today from suburbs right on the coastline that are expected to completely flood. My sources were actually two from last night, one military and the other from a meeting in the police force with rescue services. Both were pretty much saying similar things, obviously planning for the worst. At the moment the situation looks a bit better for Townsville as the cyclone has moved a bit north. Definetely a lot worse for Cairns though. I think Townsville will mainly cop a lot of the water while Cairns will have to deal with the majority of the wind. Either way, not to bloody good.

Quicker Steering For Skylines?

Steering ratio is what I mean, however response would also be a bonus. As in a small movement of the steering wheel gives a larger movement on the actual wheels of the car. Example: In the 335i or the 370Z (I'm sure there are heaps of other new sports cars, but these two are the latest cars I have driven) you turn the wheel maybe 45 degrees and the car nearly does a 90 degree turn (figures are made up, but just trying to illustrate my point). So if you are driving fast through some twisties you aren't wrestling with the steering wheel changing hands etc. A smaller steering wheel would help as dads 335i has a smaller steering wheel than the factory R33 S2 one, however obviously this is only a slight change to it all. As I said, I assumed it is a bit of a strange thing to want and isn't a common mod, but just thought I would see what options there are and what people have done. I now know a lot more about it than I did before which is precisely the point of my thread So to the steering rack bushes, you think this would help in "response"? Also toe on the front, we talking more toe out? I'll go check what my toe was set to last time I did an allignment. -

Just got told they are cutting the power and water for 4 days!! Any truth in this?!?!
-
I will be doing an order with them in the next week because we need some lines for our Wilwood group buy. So I will message you before I place the order to see if you are still keen.

Quicker Steering For Skylines?
PM-R33 replied to PM-R33's topic in Suspension, braking, tyres and drivetrain
Thanks for all the info guys, great help! Obviously I don't want to muck around with it to much, but a rack swap over wouldn't be the end of the world. I'll look into it some more and see what I can find. -
My god it moved North. That's unexpected. I can't believe Innisfail is going to get it again! Poor bastards.
-
Any body else having problems tonight? Every second thing I click on goes to a blank page.
-
Lol f**k up! Guys. I have some "off the book" info. Can't give to many specifics in case I get in shit but the source is up there. But it looks like it will be a category 5 with mass evacuations. Worse cyclone in QLD history, comparing it to TC Tracy. Twice as wide as TC Larry. Expecting it to hit near Townsville with massive evacuations. I don't know what to do? I have mates fueling their cars up and heading to Brisbane. I think shit just got real!

Quicker Steering For Skylines?
PM-R33 replied to PM-R33's topic in Suspension, braking, tyres and drivetrain
Hahaha yeah I figured it would probably be a lot of work and not really worth the headache. But just thought I would double check to see if there was some sort of mod to the steering rack that I wasn't aware of. It isn't so much the handling, as I realise the 50:50 weight distribution and a lot of other factors allow those two cars to be so finely balanced, something a Skyline would never achieve. But I just really liked that the car turned a lot for the small amount of movement of the steering wheel. Kind of the exact opposite of a 300ZX. Requires a shit load of steering wheel movement for it to even turn slightly. -
I've never really been through a proper cyclone so I don't really know what to expect. However seeing what Larry did on the news a few years back makes me wonder...
-
So......big ass cyclone about to hit...... Any one else shitting themselves? Seriously considering getting in the Skyline and just driving South for a week. Cruise any one lol? This is pretty halarious: http://www.youtube.com/verify_age?next_url=http%3A//www.youtube.com/watch%3Fv%3DZ-4o16Vq06g%26feature%3Dplayer_embedded
