  1. One time nice tip---do not make double posts asking the exact same question in two differant areas.
  2. Cheap and cars don't go together. R33 GTSt rotors are the same diameter as GTR rotors. GTR rotors are 2mm thicker, but you can use the two rotors interchangably. You need calipers that are suited the the size rotor you have. Does that answer you questions? If not, the answer is no for the first two questions, and see above to figure out the rest.
  3. I've run the gambet from stock RB20 all the way to over 500hp in my 32. I think the most fun the car ever was had to have been the bolt on stock turbined RB25.

  5. Very well put.I know I will blow my motor up sooner or later, but it's going to be because of bad gas or over revving or something like that. Would my motor survive some of that down around 300rwhp? Sure. I choose to try and avoid those and live much higher on the hp ladder.
  6. I've got a 38mm HKS wastegate with no boost creep, but I run pretty high boost and I have heard the holset turbines exhaust side flow real well for their size due to the exhaust wheel design. Just what I've heard though, but I don't boost creep.
  7. Even if you want to say Jap dyno's aren't accurate (they are inirtia, so they aren't super accurate), your talking about 2-4% at most. So knock off 20hp to what I said if you like. Nismoid, what have you seen break? I'm not discounting, just curious what a lot have people have found to be the weak link. I suspect ring lands, but I think that has more to do with tune and keep knock down, and less to do with hp levels.
  8. I say it depends on what broke, but probably all need to be replaced. Why did it pop?
  9. I understand, but also recognize people repeat what they here on the internet a lot as fact, which gets repeated over and over until it is taken as fact.
  10. I wonder, when people say RB25's can handle x amount of hp, is this from first hand experience, or just regurgitating what has been said on the internet? I made 400rwhp for about a year, and now I'm close to 500rwhp for the past 6 months (haven't dyno'd it yet) @ 1.5 bar on a stock motor/headgasket/intake. Now I can buy another RB25 for like $300 USD, so I can be more adventurous, but I'm not planning on blowing up motors just for the heck of it.
  11. Geez Dan_J, my head is starting to hurt. The above statement is completly wrong. Your proof is Kei cars and Dihastu's are slow (because they don't have intercoolers)?!?! It might also have to do with the fact that the are 3 bangers with turbos about the size of your fist that run .4 bar and aren't made for performance. I think you guys are confusing whether or not intercoolers work period compared to if the make more power by just slapping a bigger one on a car when it already had a smaller one. On a stock car where you are not already overwhelming the SMIC, THE AIR WILL NOT BE ANY COLDER, IT WILL JUST TAKE IT LONGER TO NOT COOL THE AIR AS EFFICIENTLY!! (takes longer to heatsoak, and you can almost instantly heat soak a factory SMIC with 400+hp). Now here is one theoretical that might half way support your notion. You have a pretty stock (bolt on) car that you are already running .9 bar on which is heating the air up pretty good through that stock turbo (already tuned). You can add a FMIC and IF YOU RETUNE IT to take advantage of the fact that you can now run more timing, you could gain a few ponies. Also, saying x amount of boost can be supported by x intercooler is dumb. As with the same misconception about how much a stock headgasket can take, it has to do with hp, not boost, and also where you are in the turbo's efficiency map. A stock RB20 turbo @ 1.2 bar is doing nothing but pushing hot air. Even if it wouldn't blow up, you won't gain anything. Now a T88 @ .8 bar makes (I'm guessing) over 600hp. Do you think a SMIC would support that? No way. Also, could a SMIC even flow enough air with out being a HUGE restriction to make 600hp? No way.
  12. Actually, for an N/A car, full throttle shifting at lower rpm as opposed to light throttle and revving it higher is better for gas. The opposite is true for turbo cars since load changes how much power (fuel) you use at a certain RPM.
  13. Not trying to be an ass dude, but are you just making this stuff up as you go?
  14. FMIC's will not give you a horsepower gain by themselves. They will only last longer till they heat soak, and thus they will not DECREASE your performance as fast as a SMIC. Now if you have a big turbo, but couldn't crank up the boost because you heat soak your SMIC really fast, and now you can crank it up (with a tune of course), you'll get HP. O yeah, and like they said, they look cool!
  15. I didn't think you could run it in the pipe with out a re-tune.
  16. The fact is HKS BOV's are hot garbage and should be chucked in the trash asap. They are good for leaking and making pretty chirping noises, and that's about it.
  17. LOL, where do you go about getting boost guages caliibrated?
  18. no, niether is at all true. search.
  19. You can put the AFM in the intercooler pipe. This compresses the map so you can read a bit higher, but it's a little harder to tune and you have to retune for EVERY new mod. You can always use a Ford AFM from a newer lightening.
  20. Stock one is just pegged out and it won't go any farther.
  21. It's not a function of boost, it's tune and final horsepower. I am making around 500rwhp on a completely stock RB25 motor/headgasket at 1.5bar, but I'm really pushing it. I also have access to cheap replacement motors, so I can do that (I'm in Japan). Read up and you'll find answers. Also, ignore all that "it'll handle 1.2bar on the stock headgasket" crap.
  22. Is there a difference between the two? I heard they have the same part number. Further more, I've also been told the only difference between these two and regualar RB oil pumps is the bypass spring is harder. Any input?
  23. White smoke & no coolant = blown headgasket Who knows how long it was like this, but I've got money on your oil looking like milk. Hopefully the noise you heard wasn't un-lubricated metal smacking around in there.
  24. Mine didn't fit, so I used a BFH to message it a little bit. Fits good now :-D
