  1. Dont gimme that tone of voice Dont knock it till you try it hehehe. Didnt get a reading, was an extra $10 i SHOULD have spent Will get those next time, hopefully on a more accurate reading dyno. I know the other local dyno is more "true". But he doesnt often have dyno days, rather just uses his for tuning.
  2. Yaa DC2R. Such a beast of a car. Would own another one anyday! Well, stock, they are around 1080kg. It was "track prepped" no interior, spare wheel etc etc, and 1/4 tank of gas. But added weight of huge calipers and rotors. Infact, that probly the heaviest thing, all the other mods, I+H+E would have reduced the weight a little. So probly similar to stock.
  3. Too true. Harden the F*ck up maybe? heheh Yeah 105 sounds about right, i was trapping 99.9mph in my Integra R with 133fwkw, obviously wieght advantage.. but yeah. I think the local 33's trap around 105ish. I dont even think there is another drag day untill next season
  4. I did buy it completely stock.., but stranger things have happened i guess. Might even investigate it, but i highly doubt it. it didnt look like anything had been touched interior or exterior wise.
  5. Yeah im stoked with it Skyline has always been my dream car, but i got stuck on the Honda scene, and fell in love with the Integra Type R and the track Yeah i figured it is a little high. Its the way he runs it. Very strange, but thats the way hes always done it :s But when comparing it to other Skylines with similar mods, they were making high 180- mid 190's on the same dyno, so when "comparing" its still a fair bit more! I barely take peak power as an indication, i tend to enjoy the gains per mod. But seeing as i was an excited little rabbit when i bout it, i modded it quicker than i could get it to the dyno I would have done it by now, but u figured trying to get a good time on the stock 205's was pointless! haha I only just aqquired my Enkie RP-02's 8' and 9' a week or so before the dyno, so it was fantastic to be able to accelerate and actually move, rather than sitting on the spot wrecking tyres. Makes the car feel like a rocket ship after having the stockers for 6 months. Cheers for the comments!
  6. Yeah this is what i was more aiming at, what most people consider the stock turbos boost limit before it gets tissy maybe i worded it poorly.
  7. After shockingly noticing my stock boost gague almost reachng the +7 mark under "spirited" driving conditions, i decided that after doing the hard reads over the SAU forums, being the nub that i am with turbos, that close to 1bar wasnt the best boost to run on a stock R33 turbo So when the next Dyno day was organised in my area, i though it be a good plan to get a proper boost plot done over the entire rev range. Yeah, i could have bought a boost gague, or borrowed one but i didnt want to buy a shit one just to test it. Plus IMO its a little difficult to see whats going on when your driving. So anyway, on the Dyno for the 1st time. Wish i had have gotten it done in OEM form, then after each mod, but i didnt, so lets not worry 1998 R33 GTS25t 52,000km HKS Silent Power Catback Exhaust 3" JJR De-Cat pipe (gotta love NZ) 3" JJR Split dump/front pipe R34 SMIC Apexi Power Intake Stock "hi-boost" mod Boy was i shocked when it crept up to, and surpassed 200rwkw. I was expecting high 180's-low190's. As that seemed to be the general result of previus R33's. Ignore the stains, it deiced to rain later that day, i was excited with the result, but not THAT excited And, the real reason for the dyno, the boost. 11.19PSi @ 5895rpm. I had decided that if it was over 11psi then i would do something about it, as i did NOT want to be at, or very close to the stock "limit" of 12PSi on such a low km turbo. Wanted it to last a little loonger! But im happy with the .19 extra. So here it will stay. Boost plot pic wont show properly, so a brief description... Dam does it spool quick, 8PSi by 2000rpm, then a steady creep up to 11.19PSi all the way to 6000rpm. It hit speed cut on the dyno hence the sharp power drop, and a good foot worth of flame out the tailpipe. Ha. Love the RB. Pretty happy with the result overall
  8. Not trying to steal your topic, but saves starting a new one with the same questions... My 33 (98 RB25DEt, 50,000km), when starting from stone cold, like not driving for 8+ hours, start her up, idling from stone cold, after a little lean on the throttle, as in reversing out of the garage, or whatever slow driving doesnt require any revs, when the revs pass 1500rpm on their way back down to idle, i get a similar "tapping" noise, but its only ever at that RPM, and goes away when the temp needle start to go up. Would this be oil too thick? Ive been using Magnatec 10w 40 for a long [edit] on previous cars, street, and hard track[/edit] time and never had problems with it, so figured it was a safe bet to stay with it. Do you think i should try a 5w40 or 5w30?
  9. Isnt it only about 50odd kg? Stick with your Turbo Civic for now and keep saving. If your after speed, then the Civic will whoop the Skyline hands down. Sae up, get a Skyline, model preffered, then spend some money on it. Could even buy a nana spec R32 and RB25 it? Im still relatively new so i dont know if thats an easy/cheap/worth it option.
  10. Not forever... just untill it stretches past the point of *SNAP*... doh.
  11. And an extra 2 cylinders bobbing away in the RB? Surley that counts for something?
  12. Usually you only have VTEC trouble when the oil gets low Seems to me like the old oil/filter combo comes down to personal preference. What works for you is fine. Iv always used Magnatec in my cars, previous DC2 Type R, regularly tracked. And i never had any problems of pressure loss due to heat etc etc. So i continue to use it in my R33 GTS25t. So far so good. I read so many things bout people saying it is shit, but its always what the person has "heard" or "read". Never actually had any hard evidence of it being shit. Haha Regular 5000km changes of oil.filter =
  13. You can just remove the earth. I did, that or get someone to tack it onto the pipe for you with a welder. My de-cat didnt have a hole like some do for the cat sensor, so mines tucked up under the heat shield haha. Been meaning to get a bit stainless hose clamp to clamp it to the de-cat. Theres an idea, clamp the earth with a hose clamp
  14. I have one on my R33 25-t, performance wise like the others have said it feels like a big improvement up high. Only issues i came across was one of the bottom bolts is tricky to do up because of the immediate bend of the dump pipe. It IS possible tho, you just need to use your head And the turbo water feed is kinda "leant" on by the dump pipe and manifold heat shield. After 1st installing it i got mass amounts of white smoke burning off it, that went away pretty quick. When a sexy gold colour, then obviously got damp, as it will, and got a purple tinge to it. Whoe cares tho. You cant really see it with a stock turbo and heat shield.
  15. See i have seen this too, but the way it looks to me, is when the bonnet is closed the bonnet seal lines up with the snorkle. theres actually no "ramming" of air from driving. Its kinda like any intake system, its a snorkel to DRAW air, not have it rammed in. Or you would get sooo much shit in your airbox kinda like your pod setup used to be. Make sence?
  16. Thanks for all your input guys. Got it all done. In the end i cut the lines off as they werent budging. It was hard enough getting the new lines on the new filter (and off again for test purposes) so i think i chose wisely
  17. Thats sweet man. If it works and your happy with it then its fine! Function is key! Myself am more of a perfectionist haha, so if i make one for mine it probly be pretty All i know is my Apex'i pod gets super hot driving around town, and the R34 SMIC is the same... hmm, now i think of it, SMIC... my holes are full. Will have to plan something else for cold air.
  18. Id like to see that if you can be arsed please
  19. Even tho this is a Skyline forum, and i read alot of useless and downright asshat comments about Hondas.. here we go.. My last car was an Integra Type R, and i had the pod located in a similar position, but on the other side. Had it in the bumper for 3 years and NEVER had a problem. Depending on the front bar you have will depend on the stones of course, but seeing as it is surrounded on 5 sides (side of bumper, guard liner, chassy...) its well protected. And if your worried about stones, put mesh infront of it. The water issue: Rain will never effect it. Pod filters, if a decent quality are more or less waterproof. But if you go drive through a foot deep puddle or river, then your asking for trouble. You just have to be carefull when/where you drive in rainy seasons! Common sence will help you survive. The only thing i noticed on my ITR was the bottom side of the pod had a TINY bit of rust. And that is due to the filter element having steel shit holding it together. Pretty sure the APEXi ones have plastic. My Simota pod did. The intake pipe was stone cold right to the TB, so at a guess, youd be the same to your turbo. Id love to do the same thing to my 33, but i still have SMIC, and want a Blitz LM, so kinda doesnt help. And just for shits and giggles.. a friend of mine had the same setup on his old DA6 Integra, playing silly buggers in the puddles, found one a little deep. Completely submerged the pod, and in turn shot a rod through the sump, and the valves out into the tappet covers, smashed 2 pistons and cracked all 4 cylinder walls Approx 10,000PSI with 40mm water OOPS! hahah
  20. Thanks dude, i figured itd have some sort of hose seal on it too, but iv never had this much trouble trying to break the seal! I think its because the bracket is a pop-in and pop-out type, making it difficult to keep the filter still. Sometimes that old ITR was a dream.. nice big banjo bolts rather than hoses Cant have it all tho can we. Wait! You have a GTR! Eeets Niiiceee!
  21. Sweet i might try the boiling water approach, or, i could just be a semi tight ass and get new lines. Exactly what i was thinking, its a 1998 that just clicked over 50,000km. I figure anythning thats 10 years old being forced to do something it doesnt want to will break... ha Thanks for the rapid responses! SDU is rather dead..
  22. Hi guys, just a really quick question, had a pretty decent search IMHO and looked at the list of "General Maintenece" topics, but failed to find anything on the fuel filter. Now i am no newbie to basic mechanics, but the R33 fuel filter stumped me. The problem i am having is getting the hoses off the stock filter. I have popped it out of the bracket and undone the screw clamp thing, but im buggered if i can get the line off! And seeing as i cant get the line off the top of the filter im pretty sure the bottom one is going to be harder lol. My option was replacing the lines, and hacking them off with a knife, but i dont really need to do i? So is there somthing i can do? Anyone had this trouble and overcome it? Thanks!
  23. Just curious, but does it rub on the bonnet like the ones i have seen? A friend of mine is pushing out 429rwkw on his 32 GTR with that suction kit and filter with no problems, so it can take big numbers, but if it was me id be swapping the filters for Apexi.
  24. Im with Duncan, compression numbers generally dont matter so long as they are all close. And they are, so i think its safe to assume your ok. Its the same with dynos. Peak power doesnt mean a great deal as it varies from dyno to dyno. I tend to try stick to the one dyno and go for gains rather than peak. For example, my old Integra Type R made 136fwkw with a cold air intake, stock everything else. Later at a different dyno with the addition of Mugen 4-1 headers made 120fwkw... Then again, on the 2nd dyno shop with the addition of a Mugen Twinloop catback and de-cat it made 133fwkw.. gains FTW.
