I hear what you are saying Nathan, but in reality it probably shows your inexperience at driving as well. You look at people that have been driving for years; Harry, Gary, Lofty etc and they will tell you that you cannot setup a car at half pace. As Harry said they all feel great at 8/10th's. Bring on Superlap!!!!! As for saturday, I am picking up a GT2 Porsche that I am testing for MOTOR for the week. I think I might be busy Anyway enough of BEL, who else can we talk about
-
Interesting theory Nathan. Not sure why BEL would do what you say, as most people with knowledge know most circuits get slower in the afternoon That is probably why they have struggled for so long Hey Jack. The car is super fast but they (the team) I believe have probably lacked real track experience. They are certainly starting to employ the right people now though. They have had so many people jump in that car or the previous car over the years giving feedback....sometimes the wrong feedback. The Lotus has beaten it at previous track days but I think that may be due the driver they have had. If they had the right driver in the thing to give them proper feedback it would certainly be an outright contender, and would certainly beat the little Lotus.

Yes from memory Dave told me that it already has around 320kw at all 4 wheels. That is pretty impressive numbers coming out of a 4 cylinder. When I saw it at wakey they were running around 280kw at the wheels, as it was just a test and tune day. As many people know, that car should be super fast considering the coin that has been spent on it. BRING THE DATTO HARRY!!! PEOPLE WILL LOVE IT
-
HAHAHAHAHAHA under 300kw......yeah maybe just under at the wheels. I have known Dave for years, who happens to be BELS full time in house tuner. That car has plenty of power

Somehow I think the BEL Garage EVO handles pretty well to do those times!!!! I was with them the day Lofty and Dyno Dave had it at Wakey a month or so ago. Lofty was driving it and doing all of the suspension changes that the BEL boys had been mucking around with for some. Lofty did a 1.04.2 at Wakey within 5 laps with some changes that he had made. Considering the cars previous fastest was a 1.06.0, I think the changes were in the right direction. I was talking to both Lofty and Dyno Dave on the day and the boys said the car would do a high 1.02 Not sure if you are involved with this car at all Gary, but why do they get soooooooo many people giving input to the car. They have tried so many engineers, drivers etc...... The times that they did at the creek really don't relate to wakey. The lotus that I drive does a 5 at wakey and a 41 or 42 at the creek. I would expect the EVO to do a 40 at the creek.

The track and skid pan already exist. The track is about 1km in length atm. Stage 2 will take it to over 2.5km but Gaz needs some$$$$$$$. School kids have used the skid pan for there bikes already. Not really big enough for cars!!!!!!! Not sure who will be using it as it is not the best venue. It will take time and $$$$$$$$

Yeah great idea Jason. Lets bring the pro driver topic back up

Lofty and I ran both of our GTR's at Morgan for the nationals. The problem was the track got slower and slower over the weekends because of the oil from the Formula Vee's all weekend. Crap vee's LOL I can say that because Benny Porter who works with me ended up winning the vee nationals on the same weekend at Morgan Park. Lofty did a 1.07.7 in qualifying in his car and I did a 1.09.8 in my car. In the final late on sunday afternoon Loftys fastest was a 1.09.0 and mine was a 1.11.0. Lofty has done a 1.15.3 at Oran in his car and I have done a 1.17.0 in my car. Hope this helps. Btw this was the weekend http://www.natsoft.com.au/cgi-bin/results....30/09/2007.MORG Hey ROY, I think the $$ difference between these two cars would be.....lets just say alot. But that is what you have to do when you want to find that extra edge.

HAHAHA I think from memory Jas it was retreads and the trailer. Hang on a minute..I think you car was on the trailer!!! I still love you Jas, and yes I will let you know when I have a day free for some GP tuition
-
Oh yes Harry..bring the Datto 1200!!! This beast is one serious weapon. I have driven this car a couple of times over the years when the previous owner had it. For those that know wakefield, I did a 1.07.20 in it a couple of years ago on old R compounds. I know the car is much better now from when I last drove it. I love this car.....go the Datto's
-
Just hurry up and get the thing finished Dunc

I love that pic on the previous page that you posted John. I remember that day. In the pic I can see my fellow driver trainer Benny in the silly seat with Jason driving his GTR. At this stage Benny has fire coming through the floor and trying to burn his feet and I think he may have been telling Jason....can't remember exactly what though
-
Love it, want it, just bought a house, can't afford it
-
Yes i noted that you said that Nath Jason is a funny bugger. I have known him for years. He told me a while ago the same story
-
What DiRTgarage said
-
This thread is very funny at times. Yes Jason reckons he does 12's on retreads because he was following a car that said they were doing 12's. Did Jason have any timing devices....um no So yes it will be interesting once we have some official timing on the track I think Lofty will go close to doing a 12 as the car is going on a severe diet and a huge horsepower increase for this event
-
I must have missed that on the site.....thanks for confirming. Still not sure how that can be enforced if it is under a CAMS supersprint permit. Nathan form superlap might like to add to this as it seems like a few more people may like to run in open but can't because of this rule.
-
I think you are spot on Roy. From my understanding you don't need a cage at all for open. If it is running under a supersprint permit you don't need a cage at all
-
Exactly, I think people should just enter to have some fun. My point re the Lotus Roy is that there are cars that are eligable to run in that class that can go faster than the 18's and 20's that some people are predicting. You want me to remember tyres sizes....ha I just drive the thing Yes it has 17's and weighs just over 900kg and has an 1800cc toyota engine that has a tiny 200rwkw. It might have a weight advantage but it lacks power compared to some other cars. I think on the day you are going to see some pretty impressive numbers punched out as I know a few people that are entering but have not been included in the official list yet.
-
Some of you guys that are considering not running should have a good hard look at the tyres that you are able to run in the clubman class. You would be surprised how well you may go. Some of you keep saying they are 'street' tyres And you say cars will not go faster than 'xyz' on those tyres Well the lotus that I often drive does 5's at Wakey, 15's at Oran on those tyres That would relate to 41's or 42's around the creek One day I would like to put a good set of slicks on the thing and see what it could do. The car is able to run in clubman I have driven the Green Goblin a couple of times over the years and have found it to be a pretty good thing.
-
The clubman class could get some seriously fast street cars. I look at the rules that they use in Japan for street cars for time attack style events... have you seen how fast some of there cars are now I have raced at Tsukuba about 6 times now and have seen first hand how fast there street cars are Hey if Lofty can do 1.17's in his NA 2 litre Toyota Starlet in IPRA form on crap controlled Yokies, why couldn't a car with alot more freedoms and HP/PS/KW go alot faster

I know we are changing the topic, but Amaroo was awesome. The whole complex was fantastic. I remember having an intense battle with Gary (sydneykid) in our two 1970 odd model Honda civic on Amaroo dirt circuit back in the late 80's. We were 1st and 2nd outright throughout the whole day against big horse power machines. Each time one of us would go out we would pip the other for first. Gary got me by a tenth of a second in the end on the very last run of the day. Awesome to have experienced stuff like that And if you ever got the chance to race at Catalina in Katoomba (circuit is still there) you would have felt certain parts of your anatomy tightening as you drove around it. It was one of those circuits that required full commitment.
-
That is what Lofty wrote He already has the under 2 litre and over 2 litre records at Oran Park and Eastern Creek, has the unders at Wakey and whatever else he owns. At least I own the unders at Amaroo hehe I was able to keep one BTW Oran will not be going that soon. Will be here until at least 2010.

If low teens is the benchmark for open class then I'm assuming maybe 1:20 flat??? Dunno, anyone with experience of this track have any idea?? Penno, Bozman??? Looking over the rules for the cars I don't think they would be that much slower. I am thinking cars in the clubman class should be able to do a 1.16-17. The Lotus is eligable to run in clubman and would do a 16 standing on its head with those tyres.
