  1. R33s dont run 6 speeds, only the R34 GTR does and they aren't cheap. They are a Getrag box thats also in some M series BMWs and the Supra TT. Housing will need to be changed but i dont know details, it can be done though. Would be alot cheaper to rebuild your gearbox, or to buy a new one from a R33 gts-t. As its essentially the same gearbox...i think.
  2. Probably worth investing in some forged pistons, maybe even forged rods if it fits the budget. Should help the hi-comp engine hold together longer and take a bit more boost.
  3. Ive got the last model, Handy little unit, very consistant and i think its supposed to be accurate to 1/10th of a second or something. Regardless of its accuracy compared to the track, its good to compare results between mods. Take it for what it is...a good little performance indicator, but its not the be all and end all.
  4. Man thats rough. Im sure some of those things that they booked you for aren't illegal...could be worth fighting it. Why do they book well looked after modified cars, that often have upgraded brakes and suspension and top quality tyres that actually make them safer than most of the shit boxes on the road. Im sure the defect laws were put in place to stop people driving cars that arent road worthy, so how 'bout the cops start cracking down on all the shit box 70's and 80's cars on the road that have no brake lights, bald tyres, shot suspension and blue/black smoke bellowing from the exhaust.
  5. Seriously quick for a 2 litre engine...did you see the size of that turbo!! But it really isnt an eclipse, this had the engine rotated 90 degrees and is rear drive. ...Still scary fast though.
  6. Now my gearbox knowledge isnt great by any means... But ive been reading a couple of threads about the GTR 5 spds breaking gears, and it seems that one common link is an Exedy twin plate clutch....could be a factor...dunno....just throwing it out there. If it is a super aggressive clutch could be hard on a gearbox (i dont know, i havnt used one). Maybe usnig a weaker less aggressive clutch and having it act like a fuse, i.e. it breaks so that it saves the gearbox. From memory thats what Subaru did with the WRX, they gave it a piss weak clutch to save the 'box. Couple of hundred for a clutch is better than a couple of grand on a new 'box. No science or facts behind this, just an interesting common link and idea. Also helps running some top quality gearbox fluid. There are also a clouple of replacement gearsets available from OS Giken, and the is an Aussie company aswell, dont remember off the top of my head.
  7. Nice spec list, should be a quick R33 for sure. What kind of power are you aiming for? It should put down some serious numbers! Good luck and looking forward to seeing ur results.
  8. S2000 is a quick car, no doubt about it, my cousin has one (but he drives like an old lady ). Far too quick for a P plater. Performance cant be compared to your brothers Supra, I presume its a NA Supra becuase you said it has similar power. Supra has 167kw from memory, S2000 is getting up around 180kw in a much much lighter body, The Supra prob runs 15-16 odd sec 1/4s and the S2000 prob runs low 14s (just my estimate dont know actual figures). Not to mention the fact that S2000 has a notoriously "snappy" chassis, as in its prone to snap over steer. Ive only driven my cousins once but it was great fun. Dont buy either in my opinion. Go do an advanced driver training course and get a good car for around $15k, maybe a NA R33 Skyline if u have particularly good taste . That way you've got a good car, it wont look like it belongs to your dad. Good luck with ur choice.
  9. Yep as said before called a GT-Four,model code ENR34, but there are a few sub models. Pretty much the same running gear as a R33 Gtr (without the RB26) to my knowledge. RB25DE NEO, 147kw, 1480kg i think. Im looking to get one aswell, but they are rare in manual, tiptronic isnt bad, but not for me. Now this is weird, i read above that a guy named Luke has one is SA, my name is also Luke and im in SA and i want to get one. Spooky...
  10. Ive done a bit of research on the T04Z lately, as im currently tossing up between the T04Z and a pair of GT-RS. 700awhp is prob right at its limit, if not past it, couple of the guys on the forum have them and are running well into the 600whp range, but that is pushing limits. I think HKS quotes them as a 700hp turbo. So i think you will need to go bigger, which means more lag = bad news for the track. A set of high mount twins like Piggaz suggested could be a good bet. 700awhp is some serious power for a track/street set up. Good luck with the build, HKS 2.8 is a good choice IMO. (if i can scrounge the funds it will be what i go for )
  11. Thanks for the info Gav, Good to have some first hand experience. You wouldnt happen to have those graphs would u? If they arent handy dont worry about it. I do want a good top end, but not if I end up with bugger all down low. I think that a balance of mid-range and top-end is crucial for a real-world fast car, as opposed to a drag set up where you spend all your time between 6000 and 9000rpm. Thanks again.
  12. Cheers for the replies guys. Ill have a browse through that sticky and see what it says. Still would appreciate any other info or comments.
  13. Hey, Currently getting the parts list sorted for a RB26 build im planning. The motor will be based aroung one of the big brand 2.8 stroker kits, (prob HKS becuase of the fully counter balanced crank), but in the end it will come down to what is the best value. Ill be using decent cams 260deg maybe 280deg. Looking for the car to be usable on the street, but ill be happy with power from around 4-4500 rpm and around 400awkw, maybe a touch more for track or drag days. Ive narrowed my turbo choice to either a HKS GT-RS twin kit, or a single TO4Z. I havnt found much info on the GT-RS but they seem to be the next step up from 2530's. Are they laggy bastards, or will the 2.8 spool them nice a quick? Same goes for the T04Z, have seen that quite a few guys here run the T04Z and make some great power, but is it realistically streetable? Will it have response close to the GT-RS's? Opinions will be great, but i dont want this to be the old twin vs single dabate. Any other suggestions would be great. Info from anyone who uses either turbo would be really appreciated. Cheers
