Definitely not an everyday car. IMHO, $60K is still cheap if you compare it to how much would it cost to build a 9 second GTR from scratch. -

R34 GTR's can be bought for as little as 40K AUD which will see them cost about 65K on the road in Aus. But don't expect them to be in pristine condition and normally with as much as 80K on them. There are one or two V spec's with good k's for 45K. -

It's not a V-Spec, but still a good price at 50K AUD FOB. Should be able to get it on the road here for 75K. -

Suggestion for cars on trailors: remove rego stickers and number plates and if you get pulled over then tell the police that the car is not registered and is ony for shows/races, hence the trailer. Just make sure that the number plates aren't actually visiable in the tow vehicle, but well hidden from view. I also wouldn't be surprised if the NSW police have their own inspection station before the Canberra border. -
There are plenty of 15K landed GTRs in Japan. I have seen them sell for as low as 450,000 yen ($5,700 raw price), but you get what you pay for. pay that little bit exta aand get a clean one, or just buy one already here.
-
yes, but a car that may have been thrashed and not taken care of very well will tend to have more things go wrong with it and with a GTR, these things won't be cheap to fix. As long as you are aware of this significant risk, then good luck with your purchase. I just don't think that it is wise to give all these people who want to buy a GTR the misguided notion that a 15K GTR is going to be a perfect car. It will be in fair to good condition unless you are very lucky to find a cheap and clean one.
-
Oh, and yes, unfortunately it is school holidays now.
-
If you are smart enough, you can buy a local GTR in very good condition for $25,000 whilst minimising your risks.
-
Depends on who the someone is and how thorough an inspection that they do on the car. tehre are some importers who haev a very selective process when buying cars. Also, depends on its condition and whether or not it has any major mods. If it is a clean car with say a decent history, then I would say, on the surface, that $20,000 is a fair price for a decent car. However, you must be aware that there is a risk of it not being as you expect it.
-
Sometimes, and I mean sometimes you may just get lucky. But as has been mentioned, genuine low km cars (with books) are few - and they are usually at the higher end of the price bracket. If I were buying a GTR for 15K, I would have at least 5K on top of the on-road cost of the car to spend on it as I wouldn't expect it to be in the best condition. there are some things that you cannot easily see in a pic or two over the net. And even if the mechanics have been checked before hand, there is no telling what will go wrong on a 15 year old car. In my opinion, unless you are buying an 89 car with a significant amount of mods, then I would suggest that you buy a nice clean local car that you can inspect and drive personally, as ultimately, you will more than likely end up paying close to the prices that they can be bought for here. And the major advantage is that you won't have the risks associated with buying 89 model ones. My best friend recently sold his immaculate Black 1993 GTR with basic mods and 18" wheels with a genuine 85K kms on it for $30,000. Compare this to a cheap (say 600,000 Yen) 1989 model which will cost a realistic $15,000 landed plus registration and other associated costs such as engineering etc. Let these be $3,000. That will be $18,000 just to get it on the road. This doesn't include any other problems that the car might have such as replacement of air con condensor or any such ancillary. There could be many little things wrong with it that will all add up. Then there is the body. It may have minor scratches, chips and dents that won't show up in any pics. What about major problems with the engine? ECU, electricals? See? Things will add up pretty quickly and the cost will soon get close to if not over $25K. I am not trying to sway anyone from buying such cars, just telling the full picture of what some people may not be aware of when buying such cars sight-unseen.However, there are very significant risks that needs to be taken into account when making such a purchase.

WARNING: 15 year rule changes
NXTIME replied to 2Much's topic in Importing, Compliance, Modification Laws & Regulations
I wonder what will happen to all those cars that have been bought already and placed into "free storage until they are eligible for import" as some importers have advertised? There is a very good chance that they will be a source for thieves, especially if they are sitting around for over a year. -
