Power lost from engine to wheels
skylineakt replied to skylineakt's topic in General Automotive Discussion
Yeah true that an old skyline would be less in power. I know 4wd loss more than RWD but I also think that it is more than 15%?!? Anyone here have had their car dyno and got a reading for engine output and RWkws?? -
Power lost from engine to wheels

The reason I say it is low Dan is because if (my theory haha) a stock GTST has 185kw at the engine and if there is a 80% power lost through drivetrain etc. There should be still 148 rwkw right?!?! 185X.80=148 or am I mean to minus the 148 to 185?? That's mean it is only 37kw@rw!! That's is why I think it is abit low I was hoping that my car would have maybe close to 190 kw at the engine hehe Cheers -
Power lost from engine to wheels

Also i we only entered the stock weight of the car (1350) without passengers. Not sure if we had to entered our body weight as well. Maybe that would of made a different. -
Hi guys Just a quick question, does anyone know how much approximately power loss is there from the engine to the rear-wheels in a Skyline?? I got told it is about 80% but is this general for all rwdrive cars?? It seems that alot of the guys here have their car dyno and just wondering what was the reading for the engine output compare to the rw output. The reason I ask is that i went for a spin in my car (R33 GTST) with a G-tech meter and got a pretty low hp reading. It was only like 170 hp at the rear wheels which in kilowatts is about 120 if my calculation is right. That's in a car with me and one passnger, runing 11psi with catback exhaust. Any input?? Cheers

I was thinking of getting some King Springs for my R33 too with the standard shockers. I saw some really cheap ones on ebay brand new (actually not sure if they are cheap) $90 for a pair of low (30mm) and super low (50mm). The reason I think it is cheap is because the guy at the tyre shop wanted $380 to get my car lowered with the same springs. So if I buy these and install it myself, will be saving $200 I just hoping that it is easy to put in and handle better and not worse!!! Cheers

I need some Quickly Advices, PLS...
skylineakt replied to Steve's topic in Engines & Forced Induction
Yeah I want to but have to get a hold of a digital camera first. Hopefully i'll get some up soon and you guys can judge whether they are real or fake!!! I'm pretty sure they are the real P1 hehe -
Hey Nizmo I have an auto too and the reason why I didn't buy a manual was because it was more expensive at the time, and I was short of cash and was just happy with a SKYLINE haha Also I had bad experience with my last manual car, i basically lost 3rd gear and couldn't be bothered getting it fixed. I too get heaps of SH$T from the guys because my car is auto, but hey at least I can drink my slurpee and cruise at the same time hehe. And half of them can't really drive anyway so I usually beat them off the line. But I guess if my auto goes hay-wire. I probaly install a manual gearbox. Just one questions go the guys here, when doing a conversion from auto to manual to you have to change the computer as well?? The reason i ask was that one of my mates did a conversion a Vtec Prelude without changing the comp, and for some reason his vtec wasn't kicking in probaly. I'm assuming it is because of the different gearing ratio and the extra gear.

hmm not sure what belt they are?!?! I THINK that one of them is for the water pump and I wouldn't have a clue how much they are.. Sorry
-
Hey Hippy I got my timing belt changed when I first got my car. Not sure about the how much it cost in labour but the belt cost $95. I had the free labour because the guy were changing my water pump at the same time and that was under my warranty. Cheers Skylineakt

Hey YBSLO4 I saw in your mods that your turbo is from ATP. I read last time that ATP have there own combination of housings and trims. They seem really know what they are doing and they offer different stages of turbo, they also do high flow to the standard turbo yeah?? Just want to ask about your T3/4, how is it? and what kws rating is are you getting? Was it expensive?? I have seen their white R33 around but haven't seen it being pushed.

Don't know about the heat regarding the ceramic and the steel turbo. But I read that if you boost ceramic turbo too high, it can disconnect the blade from the shaft.

Thanks Steve I'll keep that in mind when I get the car align. Aren't they mean to keep that in check for you anyway so the tyres don't wear out from the inside? I ask this because my old tyres was wearing from the inside shoulder. Does Skyline have alot of negative chamber on them?? Damn there is so much to learn about. Cheers -
I got told ceramic turbo spools up quicker than steel turbo, but can't be boosted as high as the steel turbo. Steel turbo are more durable than ceramic turbo if you are intend to run high boost.

I just read somewhere that Skylines don't handle too well to lowering except for coil overs suspension. I'm only going to lowering it about 30mm or less. And I just got my wheel alignment done too when I got the Buddy Clubs damn!! Are camber bushes those pineapple thing?? Not really sure what camber bushes are?!?! hehe don't know much about suspension set ups and stuff. -
I too wish I had DEFI boost gauge and HKS for contorller, especially the new Black out series!! SWEET... But they are damn expensive. But I guess you get what you pay for hehe Cheers.

yeah that's what I mean blink haha The ecu changing the A/F mixture constantly, that's why the reading from the o2 sensor (voltage) is changing too..

Hey JimX I found that the Castrol R 10-60 made my car very rough at idle. Stick with the 5-30W that's what I have being using and that's what my mechanic uses too. It's much smoother and now doesn't set my alarm off when idleing with turbo timer running.
-
That's cool. How much is the UniChip for the R33 Skyline?? Will it work with an auto?? My mate got a Unichip in his REx at APS and it is damn fast afterward.
-
I got the told the Unichip is really good!! Are they as good as the e-management??
-
that's pretty good for it to get to you in 5 days warrior!!! Well worth the wait I reckon. Looking at saving $20 bucks a day haha. Do you think if I keep waiting our dollar will keep getting stronger agaisnt the yen!! haha. Maybe if it goes up to 80 yen for $1 aust, i'll be getting it for like $400!! Have you installed it yet warrior?? Let us know how it goes with the result and tunning of the SAFC2. Is it possible to tune these yourself on the road instead of on the Dyno?? I'll be saving further $200 bucks there hehe. Money are hard do come by these days
-
i had Castrol R 0-60w in my Skyline at one stage and it was very shakey at idle. Even sets my alarm off when the turbo timer is running. Now I'm using Castrol R 5-30W and that runs pretty good.

I had a Autometer AF ratio meter installed not long ago. They look great and yeah there is only 3 wires that needs to be connected up (4 wires for the Cobalt series, for backlight). When cruising, my one runs back and forth between lean and rich. It is mean to do this as the car's ECU is constantly changing the oxy voltage. However when I'm pushing it, that's when it will indicate the right volume. At 80% throttle position, that's what the manual said anyway haha Something about the ECU being closed loop and is running the factory programed map. It does hook up to the oxygen sensor and also if the AF ratio meter is playing up, it could be the oxygen sensor at fault and not the meter. There are 2 types of oxygen sensors and they do get wear out over time apprantely. Hope this help a bit Cheers
-
Hey warrior how long did the SAFC2 took to arrive?? Skylineakt

i guess warranty is the only downpoint purchasing through ebay. but you are still saving $200 BUCKS $_$
