Will GTR injectors work on a R33 GTSt, are they physically capable of more flow (cc) and have they got the same impedence so that the stock R33 ECU can run them?
-
Slayer, I'm using a HYBRID brand intercooler 600x300x75 is the core size, they retail for around $880. I managed 188rwkw @12psi with stock turbo and SAFC, so I can say they definately work, and there is no apparent lag from the longer intercooler pipes needed either. As far as pressure drop is concerned they rate them a 0.5psi drop @15psi. From memory the website was www.hybrid-developments.com.au

I'm getting 188rwkw now with the AFM voltage around 5.06 mark. I'd like to achieve the max amount I can on the standard injectors and ECU, which is 210rwkw so I was told. I'm only running 12psi through the stock turbo now, so maybe I could try 14psi but I fear the AFM would top 5.1v, alternatively I was thinking a different turbo might be the go as I would like to have more rwkw around the 4000-5500 rpm range, rather than only at peak rpm, what turbo can anyone recommend, VG30, HKS2540, GT30 etc.... Also can the SAFC still tune the A/F ratio if the AFM is at 5.1v?

I was reading over an old HPI mag and noticed an article on fitting a pair of Z32 AFM's to a GTR32. Previously the car had 200rwkw@14psi and after the AFM swap they were able to get 260 mainly because of the greater range of resolution and tuning the Z32 offered. My question is whether any gain could be had on a GTS25t with this AFM, the article said that the ignition maps had to be changed even at idle, all I have at present is an SAFC so would this AFM swap be only for PowerFC equiped cars?

All the panels on the front end generally just unbolt, the rear end however would need to be cut if the panel was too badly damaged to beat out.

When dead cold mine idles around 1200 then settles to 750 once warm. 25GTT did the idle play up once you had the SAFC fitted/tuned? Coz the SAFC shouldn't effect idle unless you've mucked around with the (DEC-AIR) which I think is only used if your BOV is venting to atmo.

One thing I did notice with the Profec B is with the lo/hi knobs, even if there both set at 12psi, on low I won't get 12psi unless I'm at 100% throttle, but on high I can get 12psi at 40% throttle. It's good for when it rains I guess as you don't have to be shy with the accelerator. Also with the balance knob you can set boost to drop off, rise or stay the same in the higher rpm. -

I started with a Turbosmart item set @10psi, it dropped a psi in the last 1000rpm which I thought wasn't bad, but then when you go for a quick gear change it would overboost to 13psi for a sec. As my plans were a FMIC,SAFC and 12psi I didn't want the boost to hit 15psi so I got a Profec B, never been happier. -
The hose off the plenum is used to keep the BOV closed under boost, same boost level either side=no opening of BOV, shut the throttle and it's the actual boost pressure that forces the BOV to open and vent the air, the spring is quite weak and you can phsically push it open by hand.

Mick I think the Prochip is an older version of a Unichip, basically does fuel/timing by intercepting the signal, haven't you got an SAFC though?
-
I say get a price on repairing it then get some prices on getting an RB30ET bottom end, vl's are old now so a tired engine would be cheaper to buy than a good RB25DET. If you spend the same money you would on building a stronger RB25, on the RB30, you'll also increase HP. Even a stock rebuild on an RB30 is good for hi power as they have lower compression, if you could find a good bottom end that doesn't need rebuilding could be the way to go too.

How much Toluene do fuel company's use to turn unleaded into premium or Optimax/Ultimate etc..?
-
I do like the NISMO badge that slides over the key hole on the boot though, anyone know where to get one from?
-
No I don't think it would be, he mainly got me for the rampod which the roadworthy shop said is crap anyway as there were no emission hoses coming off the factory airbox anyway, so whether your filter is flat or round what's the difference? I made up an aluminium box to surround it anyway for next time. He even passed my blow off valve as it was a plumb-back with only a small opening to atmo.
-
Yes I think there learning, I got pulled over last year in my old vl turbo and before I lifted the bonnet he asked, got a blow off valve venting to atmo, a pod filter or a switch in the cabin for hi/lo boost? Well I had all 3 didn't I, hello canary.

Unfortunately not much, I bought a new Hybrid FMIC for $705 (usually $880) it's not a big name brand like HKS but, it does the same job. I got a new SAFC for $540 (usually $770, as you can tell I buy when things are on sale) and I've got a Turbosmart BC I'm trying to sell which was $97 new. So all up buying new that's $1342, now what's that worth second hand, uuummm not much!
-
Dude the tune for an S-AFC would only set you back around $150, don't play around with A/F ratio's yourself unless your in the know or have rebuild money.
-
Have you still got the stock AFM, if so you would definately be maxing it out (5.0v+) with a bigger turbo at 15psi, it sort of feels like a flat spot.
-
Although I don't want to sell my car yet eventually every one will I guess, but the fact that you can import one in cheap really sucks when your trying to sell one already here, perhaps there should be a limited number allowed in the country, this could be one way of making the resale value hold, otherwise there gonna depreciate faster than a commodore.

New edition of Fast Fours - Great Read
turbomad replied to Blitz's topic in General Automotive Discussion
After emailing the Editor of Fast Fours mag his reply was"the owner opted to acknowledge his superceded S-AFC even though he upgraded to a Power FC later, he wanted to give credit to all the gear he had bought and his suppliers" so I guess at the photo shoot he may not have had the Power FC yet, or he hadn't removed the S-AFC yet, either way he didn't at any time run the two together. -

Yeah what's the reason, can't a Power FC do it all? -

I think the EDITOR of Fast Fours didn't do his job correctly here by printing that he had a Power FC and SAFC, I mean do they think that the readers of these mags are stupid or something. He should've questioned the owner on the matter as it makes his mag look stupid, is it even possible to run the two Apexi units together? -
Yeah fit it yourself all that's needed is that you have to bend a few metal brackets in a vice to secure the cooler to the car, mine has a GTR bodykit so I didn't have to cut or even remove the front bar to install. I bought stainless mandrel bends cut them to size, taped them together and gave them to an engineering shop to be welded up, buy some rubber or silicone hose and clamps and that's it.

For $749 I don't think many ppl would buy Turbosmart over the Jap brands.
