  1. I have tried also. I have a mate who did a track day at Mallala last year and didn't like his results, after bragging he could rip around Mallala on his CBR in 1m20s! In actual fact, he couldn't break 1m27s. I dropped down from the fast group to medium to show him lines, braking markers, entry speed, etc and he just couldn't do any of that. He wasn't taking in the lesson and got annoyed that I made him look like he was standing still. In too much of a hurry to go fast and not learn how to go fast, safely. It takes time dumbass, something those 40+ year olds have learned. We went for a ride in the hills not long after that. It was windy and the road conditions were not the best. Half the group chose to ride another route, whilst some (including this mate) chose to ride the riskier (but potentially faster) roads. I specifically told him he was all over the place and should ride our slower direction. He went against my advice. Now with 3 racers in the group, and all 3 recommending the slower roads, which would you do? Mr "I'll be fine" ended up crashing and nearly going over a cliff. You can ear bash them as much as you want ... they just won't listen. They don't like the truth being known: they can't drive/ride as well as they thought they could. They're in denial and want to go back to their dream world and keep bragging about things they can't actually do. 1. I agree. Hoons take short cuts, or won't do it at all. 2. I've been passed many times around Mallala by guys older than me, and there's a reason for that: they've been doing it for decades and have that skill that everyone else lacks. Deal with it and learn it too. 3. Too many people are tight arses. A time slip nowdays doesn't have much bragging rights to a defect notice or speeding fine somehow Agreed 200%. They're a bunch of whingers. Give them what they want, and they'll find something else to whinge about. 1. Just recently, myself, Nene and Ben sat down with SAPOL to iron out some issues and do just that. The message is getting thru. We have a facility called "Mallala", but not many people use it. Even if we have a drag strip, it won't do much for the hoons. They're crashing on corners and uneven surfaces, something a drag strip doesn't have. Mallala is a good little track for learning more about corners, your car, and yourself. But as they say: "You can lead a horse to water but ... "
  2. I agree Adelaide's roads are a joke, but dislike it when people blame the roads in the event of a high speed accident. The roads are designed and made, and kept (tho sometimes poorly) for the speed limit posted for that particular road. Of course doing 150kph in a 60 zone 'bumpy' road is going to end in disaster. If the road was the only contributing factor to an accident, then go ahead, blame the road condition. But if high speed, drugs, and stupidity are involved ... its lame to blame the road's minor part in the accident. However, I do wonder how many minor accidents (multi car or single) have been caused due to poor road care. I know my bike crash last year was due to a crappy road. But I don't whinge about it, these things happen. South Road, O'Halloran Hill ... Port Road ... Lonsdale Road are good examples of crap roads that are potentially dangerous. Lonsdale Road is so bad, they lowered the speed limit, rather than fix the road.
  3. "Welcome to Anarchy 99"
  4. I agree 100%. Thats why I asked James to re-model the poll to show one won't necessarily solve the other. Drag strips will not solve the hoon problem ... I don't believe it will add to the hoon problem either. But at least it will take away the mindless excuses "we have no where to hoon". I've done a bit of drag racing myself. I really miss AIR. Nowdays I get my thrills out at Mallala, where the ambulance is 30 seconds away, not 30 minutes away!
  5. IMO We do need another drag strip open again. But I do not believe it will stop the hoons. Many people whinging about not having a track to use, will never end up using one anyway if they did have one. I vote for both. Open a drag strip and introduce new hoon laws, more so in licensing restrictions. Tougher hoon laws are coming now, whether you like it or not.
  6. There is a secret handshake ... involves a $50 note from you! J/K ... any SAU member can come around for a chat and put a face to the name. We generally head on down to the West Tce BP afterwards for more of a chat and to catch up with some biker mates of mine.
  7. James, options for the poll would be better as: 1. Yes, we need a motorsport complex (drag strip), and new anti hoon laws. 2. Yes, we need a motorsport complex (drag strip), but no anti hoon laws. 3. No, we don't need a motorsport complex, but we do need more anti hoon laws. 4. No motorsport complex, no anti hoon laws ... I live under a rock! Your poll deviates away from the title of this thread. But I agree we need to keep this thread on topic ... Pete has been busy enough as is.
  8. And a job well done SAU Now we've made your job harder keeping them from the Dark Side It is a two way street however, and after seeing some of the old school machines on Saturday, I'm keen for another project ... V8 Torry anyone? I miss my old 250 Cortina, 263 Centura, V8 XM Falcon. Well, after my house extension is done first.
  9. True. Its all about the cars. Rest assured this forum has a newer, unforgiving bunch of Moderators who will keep us in line. Whilst we can't all control the discussions in this forum, rules are being enforced more and more. We do have our share of keyboard warriors, but a majority of us are enthusiasts who attend shows/cruises and generally support the import scene as a whole. A few of us go above and beyond the call of duty too when required ... so congrats again to Cara for organising our club display ... Miss New Age Even us import owners had to drool over alot of the cars on Saturday. I even did the rounds 3 times ... the quality of cars was that good. Those that took home trophys were well deserved. I'd just wished I'd nagged my girl's brother more to enter his 350 chev HR Holden "family car" ... his is mint!
  10. As Damo said, most members here respect a well built car. The problem we have is with the RCK group ... who are well known for their hoon behaviour. They've crashed our cruises on more than one occasion, so we do not favour them much. Was a pleasure and a good day. We'll be back ... we have a few ideas we want to go crazy with
  11. Bloody hell! Oh well, Anthony was always more into it with his drag racing 1600 and all that. Might be getting another 1600 by the end of the year, so I'll be seeing more of Anthony again.
  12. If anyone recorded the race and can burn to DVD, I wouldn't mind a copy (will pay), and I'm sure Pete would like a copy too to watch ... in between babysitting the children.
  13. How can I be sacked from a position that was never paid employment? Can I have my severance pay now?
  14. RIP to Mihn and hope the survivors pull thru. Life will never be the same again. Hopefully a few lessons can be learnt from this tragedy. I saw my two nieces yesterday (one 13, one 14) and I showed them the Sunday Mail article and sat down with them. They've always enjoyed their Uncle "Roo" visiting with his fast cars and bikes ... but this time I outlined to them how dangerous vehicles are and how easily things can go wrong. I'd be devastated if they were ever harmed in a road accident. I've seen enough horror crashes and enough death myself. The thought of something like this ever involving my family scares me. I can't even imagine what the parents from Friday night/Saturday morning's tragedy are going thru. Those who have family coming of age to be driving soon ... don't shelter them from this kind of horror. Show them what can go wrong, and make sure they can protect themselves and make their own correct decisions in life.
  15. Damn! I thought you were older than me!
  16. C'mon ... SAU members know EVERYTHING Didn't you know the younger you are, and the more you can type, the more you know?
  17. Whilst I have no kids of my own (and not by choice), I have many nieces and nephews (10 of them) and I was there for most of their births. I remember watching the eldest, Cassandra, being born 13 years ago ... as if it was yesterday. Even the youngest, Amber, is 5 now and growing so quickly. But I still call her "chicken nugget"
  18. Vilis this friday night? Cara can bring along the club trophy for all to see and worship
  19. Thats the million dollar question that has been asked for so long now. Quoting one of my favourite movies: "Many people talk alot ... few are up for the moment!" If ya know what movie that quote is from, give me the next line
  20. Well, you're Miss New Age ... so go find Mr Old School to do
  21. Thats actually a pretty neat job
  22. Given the recent crash and police attention as a result, I won't be going anywhere tonight. Not trying to deter your meet mate, just pointing out why you might not get enough people out ... plus I got work tomorrow
  23. Been ages since I dropped in on the Norris brothers. Must get down there again one day. Spotted their display, but didn't see neither brother.
  24. Nope. I didn't see it, and I went down most of South Road.
  25. I'm sure its the driver errors killing people, not the Skylines dude Keep on topic.
