  1. Thanks Im going to compression test it tomorrow and if it's fine then just go buy a wicked large aluminium radiator for it. I really didn't want to spend any money on the car but it looks like it's going to have to cop it. Radiator, coilpacks, spark plugs and 10psi here it comes.
  2. The Exide Extra ones are good... I bought a NS50 sized one for the front of the Falcon and it is beautiful. Cost me $180. In the rear I have a N70Z Century "Extra Heavy Duty 4WD something" that cost me $250 ($299rrp) and I think the Exide one is better. http://www.exide.com.au/products/index.php AC Delco would be alright if you can get a trade price on one.... alot of OEM use them. Otherwise your going next step up to a sealed Optima which are pricey. I think the top of the range Exides do the job just fine and last a long time.
  3. Radiator went pop - anyone got one for sale? Need one tonight if possible... otherwise its the bus in the morning =( PM me your number, I'll be on the net here until I find one. Regards, Nathan
  4. If you go S2 rad support and front bar you need headlights grille and bonnet change, definitely. Im not sure with the fenders I think they are the same.
  5. This is just going to be a dyno-queen? Initial cost of R31... what, $1k? If it isn't... what brakes are you using the on 31? $2k+ right there DIY Then all the other ancillaries such as rims/tyres/suspension is going to cost you another $3k on the cheap Turbocharger in itself will cost you over $1k Exhaust system to suit big hp is another $1k Gearbox to hold that power? R33 manual box with all the crap fitted (not sure about tailshaft interchangeability) $1k Injectors? $500+ for some used big 700cc+ If you do stuff on the cheap you might be able to get away with $20k and all the labour yourself... I'd buy a R32 GTR for that price and have a reliable daily, track weapon and you can get well over 350rwhp with them with stock turbos. I had two R31's and as much as my heart is with them... and I HATE my whale R33, I still have to say the R33 is such a nicer car to get around with. Still want to change to an R32 though... but I have no RB20 love =(
  6. Ah that sucks... =( Didn't know the specs at the time, but it was $100 so just bought it... rebuild kits are $240 so it's a cheap Garrett turbo. I guess I'm better off with a rightly sized ball bearing turbo in the long run.
  7. Ok so the 3271 would be better suited to a heavily worked 2.xL 4 cylinder motor? Im sure I seen people use .63 housings on the 4L falcon engines.... most of the turbo builds are .83 Boostedfalcon.net has these builds on it.
  8. Thanks for your replys. The GT3271 is a 73 trim 0.78 turbine housing in standard form. There is two types of housings with that turbo, one is a journal bearing other is an oil-cooled free float. Not sure how to work out which I got, but it's from a Perkins diesel motor. The exhaust housing is very big though. 2.5" straight out the back of the turbo so that is why I figured if it is .78 A/R and the falcon is only revving to 5500rpm on the street then I might be able to get away with running 10psi and 5500rpm limiter on the 0.50 A/R compressor. I found I could get rebuild kits for $250 for this turbo, and I paid $100 for it... the falcon is a bit of a ghetto build and I'm happy to upgrade later if this turbo will work for now. I think I'm only expecting about 250rwkw on the Falcon... but a crazy torque figure. I can see the turbo will run out of puff at 300-350hp. Im just really unimpressed with the go of the R33... Im sure im getting some form of spark breakdown after 4000rpm and I've siliconed up the coilpacks and cleaned up the plugs (did this on the weekend when I had a flat battery and was siliconing the plugs anyway). I will replace them over the next couple days and see how I go from there. Can't really justify spending $400 on JJR coilpacks on a car I might not even keep for long. It's highly noticeable when I ground the boost solenoid and run 7psi all the time. Maybe it could be something as little as spark blowing out from gap and older spark plugs. Never run a turbo car before so dunno about the spark blowing out business... seems its a common issue. The other option is to run a VN commodore wasted spark setup. Currently got 3" cat back, R34 SMIC, K&N filter If I can fix the spark problem and install a 10psi wastegate, split dump, high flow cat and cold air intake maybe that will suffice... there is a big difference between 5/7psi and 7psi, and that is with the constant 7psi turning to crap after 4000rpm. Im sure 10psi is going to be a big jump with the other mods.
  9. Im gonna have to do this and try... siliconed up the coil packs today and not much change in the deadness zone after around 4000rpm+. I pulled the plugs out and cleaned them up while I was at it. (Battery went flat and I wanted something to do while it was charging). Will replace the plugs during the week... might have to try a $20 VN commodore wasted spark setup since I cant justify spending $400 on coil packs for a car im going to sell soon.
  10. I have mine sitting around 4 on the factory gauge, car doesn't lose any oil at all... always wondered if this was low.
  11. I got 420km's from 55L with it back to standard... I can tell the spark is breaking down and the car is running really rich, so with the coilpacks fixed and a SAFC tuned it should be pretty economical after that. I guess I'll start with the silicone/tape method now and then turn the boost back up and see how it goes.
  12. GT3271 on RB25 R33? I got one yesterday... I think it's a bit small for my 4L falcon, but it would probably do. However now I am thinking of just daily'ing the falcon and converting the skyline to a manual and putting some crazy boost into it. 1. Will the GT3271 be too big for the RB25? I think its A/R .69 rear housing. 2. Also what would be a safe amount of boost to feed a good condition 120k RB25? 3. 10/15psi two stage boost controller? And what type of power would I be looking at at these boost levels with this turbo (Other mods only 3" cat back, then FMIC, injectors, fuel pump and Wolf) 4. Also what would I need to change to put this turbo on the car? 5. Same manifold? Custom dump? Custom charge piping Will pay you back for your wisdom with mad videos of drifts at collie =)
  13. I've done 200km's and the needle hasn't come off full yet... wtf? I'd say Im having issues with the spark because even at 4500-5500rpm its very very slightly noticeably bogging down and then going full steam again at 6000-6400rpm.
  14. When I did the solenoid mod it had nothing at 4-5000rpm so maybe it will pay for me to pull the plugs out and regap them and silicone the coil packs or change it to a VN one and run wasted spark. I sourced a VN coilpack for $20 and have a set of Eagle 9mm leads on my Falcon I could use. I just filled the tank yesterday and put the boost back to 5/7psi. I figured I would really need an SAFC, I seen dyno graphs of stock Skylines and how rich they run when they are working right on factory ECU, must be nasty when there is spark breakdown and thats where my fuel consumption is going out of the window.
  15. Im getting under 300km's to a tank.... last tank I got 320km's because I babied it a bit... all I got is 3" catback and K&N filter. I filled up 57 litres today @ 1.50 of BP98 and cost me $88.. $88 for 60L for 300km's? - 20L/100km? and its not even that fast... my NA worked EB falcon will beat it nasty off the line and its only 157kw+ 350Nm or so. Plus falcon does 530km's off a tank. Really considering getting rid of the skyline because its eating into my wallet in petrol big time!
  16. I cut the grounding cable today and taped it up after work... definately ALOT less hp! But also not a full noticeable lack of power after 4000rpm... going to gap the plugs tonight.
  17. If closing the plug gap doesn't work for me today, then I'll be changing to a VN coilpack. You can borrow my S1 R33 coilpacks if I dont need them. Will update tomorrow.
  18. Well in the past month I've bought an R33 GTS-T, VT250F motorbike and a new helmet so I am pretty broke till next fortnight. It's really crap after 4000rpm so I might just use the wasted spark DIY thread and get a VN coilpack setup.... tomorrow after work I'll pull the plugs and regap them to 0.8mm, and silicone around the coilpacks to ensure they aren't having problems from cracks. Ill test that out and then if it doesn't work Saturday Ill do the VN coilpack setup.
  19. Now I got the Skyline I am paying $1.50 per litre+ for 98 here in Perth... where is this toulene stuff available from over here? Google time.
  20. So there isn't going to be issues with fuel maps or anything when upping the boost to 7/7psi or 10psi? Since I upped the boost the higher rev range is just crap... but I have to change my spark plugs and regap them and then probably silicone up the coil leads to make sure that isn't the problem. Mostly does it worse when it's hot. Going to remove the middle plug cover also for better cooling of that section. Will get another chrome one laser cut with some funky gfx I make in photoshop =)
  21. I'd like two stage boost... but at 5-7/10psi. Unfortunately Im going to install an RB20 actuator and have to keep my foot off it at 10psi. What effect would an RB20 actuator and 10psi gate have on the two stage boost? Will it run something-psi/10psi two stage? I figure Ill have to just remove it altogether... or leave it as it is now.
  22. When I first did this it was good for a day... excellent in fact. Up to 4500rpm it runs way better.... then after that its CRAP. Going to try tape/silicone the plug leads and replace the plugs on Tuesday/Wednesday... but tomorrow im putting it back to normal. After 4000rpm there is very little there until 6000rpm when it feels like the power comes back on. I'd say I need an SAFC to do this properly?
  23. My pulley was a little bent on mine so I bought another working pump, $50... will fit it tomorrow... im sure you could get a pump off the forums thats in good nick and swap them over. Then later try veale, repco, coventrys, auto one, auto pro for a p/steer rebuild kit. Ill see if I can get another pulley for cheap and rebuild the pump Im pulling out. It has KYP written over it so I figure it's been a pretty new replacement.
  24. Hi mate I seen you were selling an RB25 engine. Would you sell the harmonic balancer from it?

    Regards,

    Nathan
