  1. Hi, not sure whether this has been posted elsewhere, but couldn't find it on the search button. What nice plates have people seen around Victoria? Specifically in the last week or so for Nissans: [GTRHKS] I just rode in it on weekend - Silver R33 GTR quite modified [N1SMO] - Blue modified S15 owned by same guy [GTRJIE] - white very nice R34 GTR driving around Melb owned by guy named Jie Other plates I have seen over the years but can't remember car type: [LOSER] [FATBOY] [P1GB8T] - "pigbait" on Wrx I think [iMPOOR] - very flash car, can't remember what exactly [i000HP] [bOOKME] [NORICE] [RICER] [sTOLEN] [WASHIS] - ex-wife? No-one has taken [GAYLOR] though, I wish someone would I am trying to get some ideas of something to put on my custom plates for a R34 GTR. Any recommendations? I know these are currently available, but they are a bit gay... [FUNGTR] [GTRFUN] [R34PWR] [sTOVES] [PHTBOY] [RDARME] [GODLY] [HKSCAR] [bNR34V] How about [HASTE] or [RAZER] (as in to raze everything before me lol)
  2. Ok point made. I will try to get the factory ECU. Only thing is, how do you know when he changed to an aftermarket ECU if the owner bought it like that? The factory ECU could have been changed 5 years ago, and you wouldn't know how many genuine km's he's done after that. But I will keep it in mind, thanks.
  3. Sorry for the double post, just wondering whether any other people living in Vic know why. I just got a bit freaked out when for the first time I checked out the prices of these cars in other states... In Melb our cheapest ones are around the 55k mark whereas in Sydney there are four cars advertised for sale below 50k with lower kms than anything Vic has?!?!?! WTH's going on here? Is it because NSW is a bigger market? Can't be that much bigger... Melb is only slightly smaller than Sydney, and even cars from WA/QLD are cheaper. Is it because Vic has the tightest modification regulations so fast Jap cars aren't as popular because they always get defected? I am seriously thinking about going interstate to buy my car now. 10k is not a small amount of money, which can pay for 80 return flights from Melb to Sydney... jeez. But it must be a huge headache to do the financial/mechanical checks there, buy it, transfer registration, pay stamp duty, pay for insurance to drive/transport it back, re-register it (and pay another round of stamp duty???). Has anyone got any experience with this?

Ok cool. That's an important piece of info. Now I know exactly what to do with tailgating unmarked cop cars

Jeez... I didn't know that. So when people in front of me brake suddenly because of a stupid ped crossing the road at the wrong time, and I crash into him, I'M the one who has to pay my $1000+ excess and lose my rating? Dude.. not cool at all. I think it's time to upgrade my brakes. Instead of crashing into the guy in front of me, the guy behind me will crash into me and I won't pay a cent.

Me too, I was just being facetious. But surely they can say something about innocuous things for example one busted brake-light (that you didn't know about) may cause the driver behind you who was changing lanes to NOT know you were braking (as that was the light mostly in his field of vision). And boost controllers as well for making you drive fast. Also not sure about cosmetic stuff that they might talk about making your car a more attractive target for thieves...
  8. Just wish that bloke who owns the Z-tune in Melb would put his ride up here. You can see his car on Youtube - just search Z-tune in Melb. It's on the Eastern freeway - you can see the LED tail-lights.

"Proved to be the cause of the accident." Surely this is very arbitrary... I can PROVE your POD filter caused you to have 5% more power which CAUSED your accident as you were accelerating at a faster rate than what would be expected from a car WITHOUT your pod filter, thus rendering the car's stock brakes unable to cope with stopping your car rapidly enough to prevent this accident from occuring.
  10. I can see where nis0 is coming from though. Another good reason to get it serviced somewhere is that you will have stamps/entries on your service books or at least receipts with not only everything done but more importantly the kms. When you sell the car in the future I can tell you this makes buyers feel a lot more secure seeing the gradual rise in kms on your 5k servicebooks over the years. Not knowing whether the low km car in front of you just had the dash swapped last year is a turn-off. You will definitely make more money this way than skimping on the $60 or w/e for each service. For example I would be willing to pay at least a $2000 premium for a car with regular servicing and the documentation to prove it. That pays for probably 10 years worth of servicing every 5000kms, (I only drive 10,000k/year) not to mention how much money you will save in time (time=money for all of us), buying engine oil, and the remote possibility of missing something mechanically wrong that could endanger your engine and be a lot more costly in the end. Cheers.
  11. I'm assuming that your FMIC is aftermarket, in which case Basti is right. If FMIC stock, then no need to worry.

Cool thx for replies. Geez, that Shannon's policy of not paying out on unRWC cars... Does a car with any defectable item in it mean that it is automatically unroadworthy? So if I had everything stock but a turbo timer, or an exhaust that read 91dB, if I totalled the car I wouldn't get a cent with Shannons???!?!?! I stumbled across the insurance thread in the general SAU forum (not the Vic subforum), but some insurance companies don't insure in Vic, that's why I wanted to ask in Vic specifically. I have asked Famous and Lumley Special Vehicles for a detailed quote... will post up results here. Cheers
  13. Does anyone know how much of a hassle/how much it costs to buy interstate then to get it registered in Vic? I don't have to pay stamp duty twice do I??? Thanks.

Damn... u serious?! I will definitely need to investigate Shannons. Apart from JCI + Shannons, are there any other insurance companies good for Skylines? Thanks.

I have to say it's quite surprising to me that JCI doesn't care about mods. Surely a highly modified barely street legal drag car which is also fully riced out with neons/stickers etc has a higher chance of crashing/being stolen than a stock-as-a-rock car. But I'm not complaining Hopefully whether or not the car is defectable or not has no bearing on the insurance payout... Anyone know the answer to this?

Hmm... Shannon's online quote thing has so many exclusion criteria! And it doesn't have Nissan Skylines for online quotes! Guess I will have to ring them up. I always thought that Shannons was more oriented to classic cars whereas JCI was for modified newer Jap cars. Or maybe I'm just basing too much on the ads

Hey guys, I am buying a R34 GTR and was looking at what is the best/cheapest insurance company to use. Just Car Insurance looks good. The online quote I got was about $1300 for the car which will be garaged in Williamstown and I'm a 25M. The odd thing I noticed about it was that the quote didn't change even when I put about 10 hypothetical modifications (not engine/turbo but things like exhaust, turbo timer, boost controller) on it. I wonder what's going on here? I remember when I first started driving my dad's insurance covered me and it was a lot cheaper cuz he was Rating 1. Does anyone still do that? It would be a lot cheaper and I'm sure the insurance companies won't care if you're a listed driver (maybe even if you aren't?) Who do people insure with? Any recommendations would be most appreciated. Thanks a lot.
  19. Thanks guys for all the replies. Just went to see most of the remaining R34 GTRs for sale in Melb today. There's someone selling one in Leongatha but a 2 hour drive's a fair way away for a test drive, unless I'm on my way to Phil Island... but I only aim to go there for the track after I get my GTR. I'm sick of seeing the penguins already. Has anyone seen the Leongatha one? I was very impressed by the 3 Nurs I test drove/rode in today. As the car will be my daily driver though, a Nur is pretty much overkill and I should stick with the cheaper GTRs. Yeah I plan to get a mechanical inspection at one of the trusted garages before buying. With regards to rust, has anyone actually seen an R34 with rust before? I haven't... must be pretty rare, or I'm not looking in the right places I just have two more to see in Car dealerships before deciding. Anyone have any experience with GTA Autos on Spencer St or Victorian Auto Market in Fawkner? Thanks.
  20. Hi, I asked this question in a wrong section. Does anyone know whether dump pipes/visible adjustable cam gears are defectable? Also, if a cop pulls you over, does he actually go through your car eg., glovebox, etc? I hide my boost controller in there. Can you just unplug it and hide it under your seat or something? Also I heard turbo timers are defectable?!?! Thanks.
  21. Ah ok. Cool thanks, I will keep those workshops in mind. Basically I'm just trying to decide whether to go with light-moderately modded cars or stock GTRs. I really don't need the headache of getting defected, so I would be happy with the stock ones if that's what it came to. Do they even defect things like dump pipes/cam gears? Maybe I should ask this in the EPA sticky? I have read the excellent "what to look for when buying a secondhand skyline" post but wondering if there is anything specifically about R34 GTRs that have the potential to go wrong and that I have to look for when buying. Thanks.
  22. Wow that's the fastest reply I ever got to any post on any forum... thanks krzysiu Maybe it was driven a lot and then they changed the tacho display set? The kms will be the ones on the new set right? Or maybe it was just thrashed around.... probably more likely? The owner is more than happy for any mechanical inspection. I guess you would recommend an RACV comprehensive check? Thanks.
  23. Hi guys, I'm new here, although I have been browsing the forum for a few months now... this is my 2nd post after my intro on the newbie page. I am buying a R34 GTR in the next week or two. There seems to be many knowledgeable people here, so I would be really grateful if you could help me out with a few questions: How often do you guys get pulled over by the cops for "routine" inspections even though your car looks stock, sounds stock and your driving is tame? Why I ask is I really like this moderately mod'ed GTR with stock engine/turbo/intercooler, but has HKS split dumps HKS front pipe HKS hipower catback HKS adj cam gears (IN/EX) HKS timing belt with Trust clear cover Apexi pods Apexi powerfc adjustable boost Nismo twin plate clutch (super coppermix) 269rwkw (Please find a photo of engine bay attached) Apart from the PowerFC which I can just hide if I get pulled over, and assuming the noise level is ok, do you think this setup has detectable defectables? Also, the car has had to have a right rear wheel ball bearing replaced. Does this mean it has been driven hard? The owner says no... The gearshift knob looks quite worn, even though it is a 01' model with 50ks on it. The owner actually imports cars (not his primary job) but this is his private ride. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks
  24. Hi everyone, I'm a car enthusiast in Melbourne. I have been reading SAforums for a while now, but only registered today. I am buying a s/h R34 GTR in the next week or two and was wondering if I could get some much needed advice. I've read the "what to look for in buying a secondhand skyline" thread. Just wondering is there anything specific to R34 GTRs to look out for? Thanks.
