    Engine Damage

Haha I remember owning a dodgy old Falcon years ago where the fuel gauge would read higher than what was actually in my tank lol. Got caught twice... once halfway to Horsham on a freezing winter night at 3 am with no mobile (left it accidentally in Melb). Not pretty at all.
  2. You deliver pizza in your skyline? That's funny, sounds like an Aussie version of Initial D. (Like Takumi delivering tofu in the Fujiwara Tofu Shop race-tuned AE86). Do you get decent mileage with your GTS? Hope your boss pays for fuel.
  3. Jeez, over 100 km/h on Lygon Friday arvo is not a good speed to be at. Thankfully no-one else was seriously hurt. Anyone else notice people driving more aggressively every Friday?
  4. http://www.theage.com.au/news/national/spe...0765140194.html "Police have blamed speed and "hoon" driving for a crash in which two men were killed and five people injured in Melbourne's inner north. Senior Sergeant Michael Talbot said the two men killed in the crash on Carlton's busy Lygon Street this afternoon were 19 and 21. He said three men were in the Commodore travelling south on Lygon Street when it collided with a parked and empty black Honda Civic near the corner of Palmerston Street about 2.15pm. The crash sparked a chain reaction involving five vehicles as the Commodore spun and hit two stationary taxis with drivers inside waiting to pick up passengers. The second cab was pushed into a stationary grey Mazda hatchback. MICA paramedic Geoff Taurins said one of the Commodore passengers was dead by the time ambulance crews arrived and the driver died at the scene a short time later. Both men were from Melbourne's north-west. The third man was taken to The Alfred hospital with injuries thought to be serious but not life-threatening. A VicRoads spokeswoman said Lygon Street between Palmerston and Elgin streets had now been reopened to traffic. Mr Taurins said paramedics arrived to a chaotic scene with people yelling and screaming, broken glass and pieces of the wrecked cars strewn across the road, and up to 150 onlookers on the busy street. A driver in the first taxi, a van, and a driver and passenger in the second taxi, a station wagon, were taken to St Vincent's Hospital with minor injuries. Mr Taurins said a female pedestrian walking near the parked Civic at the time of the smash had "narrowly avoided death". The woman, believed to be in her 20s, was hit by shards of windscreen glass but was uninjured. Mr Taurins said she had helped paramedics treat patients before she was taken to hospital. Senior Sergeant Talbot said the woman had been "severely traumatised". "The total here today we have five cars involved, two young men have been killed, five others have been taken to hospital. High speed is involved," said Senior Sergeant Talbot, who was unable to confirm what speed the car was travelliing in the 60km/h zone. "This is another example of what you could say (is) hoon behaviour, hoon driving and young people thinking they can outdo themselves and the results are tragic." Senior Sergeant Talbot said the parked vehicles had blocked the Commodore from mounting the footpath and potentially hitting pedestrians preventing what could have been a tragedy of "monumental proportions". He blamed the accident caused on "ridiculous" driving. "We just can't get it through the young people's heads that they are not invincible and that they will crash and that they will die." Tony Follara, who lives in a nearby housing commission building, said he heard the crash from his first-floor flat. "It sounded like a big bang. I didn't understand what it was," he said. The VicRoads spokeswoman said the traffic flow in Lygon Street was returning to normal." Poor bastards. Luckily no-one else was killed. But my question is, how did the police know they were hooning? They had no eyewitness reports of hooning. The police got there after the accident, and admitted they didn't know how fast the car was going. Travelling at 60km/h and crashing into a parked car is enough to kill people. The only thing good to came out of this was removing a commodore and civic off the streets.
  5. Almost forgot. Saw [sKYONE] on the horizon driving down Bulla Rd near the turn onto Tulla Fwy, yesterday at around 0830. Was a white R33 GTS_T or something I think. Looked quite unique.
  6. Haha, I see, Alan. Well when I have kids I will likely get an Evo as a family car, so I guess I will be making lots of trips to Bayswater for both cars
  7. Yeah, I agree, which is why I coast. As well as the fact that I suck at heel and toeing so when I downshift the car jerks a crapload.
  8. My bad. Miscommunication there was making me think I was missing something. What I meant to say was I know you can have only one intake mod - aftermarket pods or AFTERMARKET FMIC. Should have specified I didn't mean stock FMIC. Sorry for the misunderstanding dudes
  9. I'll be there. Finally be able to meet some of you guys
  10. They're quite cheap. Hopefully sliding Performance make decent products. How much would installation be?
  11. How much does it cost to replace stock clutch with new genuine Nissan one? I thought around 1k??? Is it cheaper?
  12. Clutch plus install is about $1-1.5k I thought. Stockish brake pads are like what, $200 a set? Rotors are about $600-800 a set? But you wouldn't need to replace your rotors unless you do a lot of hard braking and they warped would you? ie., track use. In that case you would need to replace your clutch before anything else anyway. I don't intend to do much track driving, and brake pads should last around 30k I think, so I am happy to sacrifice them rather than my clutch. And I'm too lazy to downshift (main reason) My clutch has been changed about 1 year ago to a Nismo copper twin plate clutch, so I think with my driving style it should last many many years to come.
  13. Well the way I see it: Downshifting. Pros: 1. You have more control of the car, can accelerate quickly if needed. 2. It sounds better Cons: 1. More wear/tear on clutch/synchros 2. If you engine brake without hitting the brakes, the guy behind you may not have noticed you have slowed down as your brake lights haven't lighted up. The pros/cons of neutral would be the opposite obviously.
  14. I heard that there was wear in the clutch when fully engaged even when not changing gears, and that's the reason why you shouldn't coast with it depressed, instead put it in neutral. May be wrong, just what I heard from a few people.
  15. Saw five modified R34 GTRs last weekend... at racepace There was a really nice white R34 GTR with a carbon hood with a huge air vent in it - I mean if a flock of birds landed on the car they would seriously be vacuumed into it. Also saw Snowman's nice blue one - I love the Z-tune hood. Also saw some guy rock up in an Evo 8?!? Huh? Why would you come to a GTR tuning specialist?
  16. StolenS15, I think that the exhaust is legal as apparently it was taken to Vicroads for an inspection and got passed a month ago. To me, it sounds relatively quiet even when revving for some reason. Definitely quieter than a lot of the WRXs around. If it drove past, the noise wouldn't immediately make you think it's illegal. I guess time will tell.
  17. R31 Nismoid, you're misunderstanding my question. I KNOW you can only have one intake mod (pods or FMIC). My question was to Dogknight who said: "Air pod - only okay if you dont have a front mount added on (GTR excepted)" Why would the GTR be any different from any other car in terms of only having one intake mod?
  18. Cool. I think I will stick with the way I drive then. Still not sure about skipping gears on downshifting though..
  19. WazR32GTSt, Basti, PM me if you want more info re advice for internship. Currently resident at one of the Melb metro hospitals.
  20. Why do you say "GTR excepted" on the air pods? I have stock GTR intercooler, so doesn't that mean I can have pods legally? Thanks.
  21. Just wondering what people do when they are coming up to a stop light and anticipate stopping there for a minute. Downshift or brake to idle rpm and then coast in neutral (what I'm doing now). Basically I figured that clutches are more expensive than brake pads. Also I have heard differing things regarding skipping gears on downshifts putting more strain on your transmission? I thought that as long as the revs fall within your safe range for the gear you intend to go into, it shouldn't matter how many gears you skip. Is this true or not? Thanks.

    Insurance

Wow cool, that's awesome! I am happy to go with JCI then.

    Insurance

Yes, it is "covered" but they have a blanket policy that any mod which is illegal can make claims less.
  24. That P1 Supercar Club thing is a fantastic idea! Can you actually take the cars to a track and still be insured by the company? I will have to wait to when I earn enough to spend 30-40k/year on hobbies....
