  1. Sorry I think I meant back-firing.
  2. Jesus Christ! Just spent half a day reading through all 42 pages of this thread. I have an R34 GTR and wanted to know what engine oil to use at the next service. It has been getting Mobil 1, but I know there are better ones out there for a premium which I am willing to pay for. The odometer says 50k but I am not too sure about that - engine is mechanically sound though. It's mainly used for spirited street driving and commuting. My oil temp hardly goes over 90 deg. I am not sure whether it runs rich or not, but I do get some popping noises out the exhaust occasionally - is this mis-firing??. Mods include dump/front pipes, catback exhaust, AFC boost controller at 1.1 max boost, some cam gearing. I live in Melbourne so temp of 0-40deg year round. I was tryiing to decide between the following: Motul 300V Chrono 10W-40 (seems to be the most popular motul oil on SAU) Motul 300V Power 5W-40 Motul 300V Power Racing 5W-30 All three of these have the "double ester technology". Also on the redline site it recommends 10W-40 for GTRs. I have read redline is good but not as good as the 300V?? Also that the smaller the range the better as there are less additives. As my oil temp usually doesn't go near 100 deg, would then the 5W-30 be better than the others? I am a bit worried that it might be too light a viscosity? But if I'm running rich it should be ok?? Thanks very much for advice. Greatly appreciated.
  3. Yeah my car chews through BP Ultimate in no time if I'm leadfooted. But I have driven my GTR quite sedately (the first few days I got it) and managed to get 450km out of one tank (I can fill to just over 50L) , so it's not too bad. Haven't tried Shell V2 Racing yet, not that I have any petrol stations near my house which offer it.
  4. Saw a white R34 GTT around Parliament station at around 1230 yesterday. Saw a yellow R34 GTT around Russel St at around 1630 yesterday. Both had standard plates, can't remember the exact details.
  5. How much of a difference would have AWD vs RWD in a situation like that helped? I've almost spun out in my car on rainy nights even driving pretty sedately, but I haven't driven a RWD Skyline in the wet before. Would the transfer of torque in that situation with all the tires already losing traction actually help much?
  6. Don't worry, he's just jealous because he's 40 already and can only afford an Aurion. I'm sure he wished he could buy a Skyline when he was young, but he's having a mid-life crisis and wants to get a "true" sportscar to impress the young ladies ie., the mighty 200kw Aurion instead of a Camry. Come to think of it, his driving should qualify him for dobbing him in on the hoon hotline.
  7. Actually, I used to think so too, but my mate said it's actually quite boring. He's at uni but has registered for some list where reps contact him occasionally to ask him to beta test something from small up and coming games developers. The big developers get their legions of fans who are more than happy to download the beta version of their next-to-be-release hit and beta test the crap out of it for free. ie., Blizzard. Usually my mate only tests a part of the game, and he is meant to go through all the functions of the game methodically in a particular scenario, etc. It is more efficient at testing the game than playing it through as you normally would, but makes it quite repetitive and boring. There are heaps of times when you finish a game without ever using or even knowing about certain items/weapons/places but the developers want to know that you can do everything and won't crash the game.
  8. That reminds me, need to watch Rambo
  9. HAHAHAHAHa That's the funniest shit I've ever heard! Sure for F1 cars at 250 km/h it might save a few microseconds off their lap. But it's even more ridiculous than having a spoiler for "downforce" in everyday 60km/h driving. How much effect does air resistance play at everyday speeds? Hmm... few cents on petrol vs insurance excess and loss of rating
  10. Geez! That's exactly what I'm scared of. For a 34 GTR to be a write-off.... they must have done like 60k damage without even starting the engine. What did they do? Burn it?
  11. Lol Valiant. 2 tons of unrefined iron. Tree would've been owned.
  12. Well, I wouldn't mind a monument on my grave with "Made In China" on it. After all, I was...
  13. Dude, sorry to hear you lost your licence. Was it through speeding? I dunno... ride a bike or something to the meet? Personally speaking, if I had lost my licence I wouldn't come to the meets as I would feel so frustrated at not being able to join the awesome upcoming events/cruises in my car. I would just hide in a hole for 9 months, grit my teeth on stupid PT then emerge when I have my licence. But that's just me
  14. I'm with Sarah.
  15. Monumental mason... cool! Like Obelix!
  16. I had a good night, great to meet some of you in the flesh. That was a great guest speaker tonight, I think I'll hop onto import monster now. But I just clogged half my coronaries from that deep-fried seafood platter. Sorry I had to leave early for work. See everyone at the next GM.
  17. I believe that is the R35 being tested for emissions by Nissan?? http://www.skylinesaustralia.com/forums/R3...ne-t205814.html
  18. Damn, raining too much nowadays. Time to take the slicks off Back to the semi-slicks.
  19. WTF? 1 in 8 young male drivers die on the road???? That sounds way too high. So out of the 42,000 SAU people, let's say 40,000 of them are guys. That means 5,000 of us, on this forum, will die in car accidents, while we're "young" (I guess < 35 y.o.). Actually, make that more than 5,000, as it's fair to say Skyline drivers have a higher probability of being in lethal accidents compared to the young male driver general population just by virtue of our cars being quick.
  20. Lol... "beaten-up" spec skyline. Like "dereliqtue" style in Zoolander
  21. Graeme, just wondering, do you ever get pulled over in your GTR by other cops for "routine inspections" (ie., targetting imports for defectable items)? Just wondering what their reactions are when you tell them you're a cop. Or would they all know it is you?
  22. Wait.... weren't going too fast, but downhill on a rainy road... and crashed when you turned. Hmmm How much does your GF weigh? Just J/K
  23. But custom plates add 10% more power! 15% if they have an unintelligible alphanumeric mix in bright pink! That's bang for your buck right there!
  24. Phatboy

    My New Ride

    Nice choice mate.
  25. Jeez, that' sucks. Let us know how it goes and how much it ends up costing.
