Horsepower Heroes
Munro replied to NIZ30's topic in Site discussion - including Ideas/Feedback & Bugs
Yep.Times rule.Dynos are for tuning.Tracks are for proving. Besides, what good is 1000hp if you can't harness it & do what we all like doing - going heaps fast. Often more power doen't make a car go faster.Power + traction+ good driving = killer times(drags or circuit) Just my opinion. -
Respect. BMWs are beautiful cars.In fact, I would say that they are so refined, & so good to drive, that they are one of the best cars around. After driving my R34 around for a couple of hours I cant wait to park it & get out. Then again, I do like looking at it from the outside. With the E46 M3, you just want to keep on driving.Handling - awesome, Power delivery - very nice, street cred - well the E36 was PCOTY in '96, & the E46 is sooo much ricer (excuse me - nicer) in fact I liked it so much I've got one being built in Feb 03. Probably won't fit stickers or neons though. I think the "Ricer" argument is a matter of not recognising that young guys, who do not have the means to buy wild driveline components, & who would love to modify their cars like we do, are just doing something different & fun till they are ready to seriously compete with the older(more financial) group who pride themselves on clean, powerful, but more classy looking cars. At least they are doing something creative, rather than banging drugs up their nose or whatever.Although, I must admit, a few cars I have seen made me wonder if thats what they had been doing just before they did up the car!!! :bahaha: :burnout:

Well tell the Fat Poof to get on with it. Seriously though, does it cut out or will it just not pull past that full stop. My R33 GTR started to max out around 6000, & the R34 doesn't feel like it will go past 6500.(mind you in 6th thats around 280 or so!) Maybe you are just running out of power.Or you are not reving high enough in 3rd & 4th.What do you take it to? If you are just running out of power, thats simple.Just put an OS Giken 3 litre with 3240 HKS turbos in it & no more problems. Hmmm, better stop drinking.

What are you doing over in Perth brute? Go the Tiger utes.

Williamstown to Birdwood!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Thats where we were.Went through Williamstown twice on way to Barossa & back. Was about 30 180sx,silvias etc.Nearly lost a few to oncoming semis on the way!!! Dont you read the posts? Graham posted while back 'bout it. Well lets get another one happening for Skylines.Get everyone you know with a skyline.Pull people over, ring dudes, whatever. Lets see if we can get 20 skylines in one place at the same time. Must be heaps of them out there who dont post here for whatever reason. How many SA Skys have we got currently on the Sa forum.Always see heaps around that I dont recognise. Perhaps we could do a end of year(Christmas cruise) with a BBQ at the end of it or something? I'm too busy cruising to organise cruises! Someone start a new thread & lets see how many new Skylines we can recruit.

Good on you summoner, Nice to see someones sticking up for the Aussie battler ute. Try sticking a motorbike, or 4 wheels, or more than 1 bale of hay in the back of a skyline! How about towing a boat? I have a 2001 VU SS M6 235rwkw ute.Nothing like the sound of a nice V8 winding through the gears. 260km/hr!!! Mate you must have a hard top, 'cause anything over 220 & my tarp starts going crazy on the rear window shelf. Course Skylines are great (what else would I be doing on this forum) but remember what they were designed for. They are top level sports cars in Japan that only the very well off can afford. The Holden is attainable new to the masses, & serves a large variety of different uses & needs. With wide, comfortable seats, plenty of room, & good useable torque they are excellent cars. Ever notice how slow your Skyline is with 4 people in it? Barely phases a V8 Holden. With 4 passengers my R34 really feels it. BTW - just for fun I took my ute on a Skyline cruise a while back, & managed to dust quite a few of them. But, to be fair, I also took my R34 Vspec on a LS1 commodore cruise & dusted all of them. So what am I saying?? Hmm, not sure. I suppose have both of them if you can. :burnout: My mate Brenton lives in Perth now.If he pulled up next to you in his LC Torana, he'd dust all you all.( He pull 9.7!)
-
I'll third that - ha ha. BTW - where were all the skylines on the Nissan cruise on Sunday Was getting a bit lonely at the front!!! Then again, I shouldn't really do 260 on public roads! :uh-huh:
-
I read on the "other forum" that in US quite a lot of guys use Nittos on the street & get good mileage from them. Not sure on tyre pressures though.I just got a set of 275/40/17s.Not sure if I can get more though.PM if need help & I'll see what I can do.:burnout:

I have one, but it's from R33 GTR.

G'day, Well after months off the road waiting for parts, It looks like the R33 should be up & running again soon. The Holinger 6 speed will be here next week, the new custom driveshafts have been heat-treated & are ready to pick up, & the new clutch center to suit the Holinger splines will be arriving from Japan any day now. I have bought new MoTec ignition coils(the almost brand new Nissan coils are for sale if anyone wants new ones) & the car will be going into Tilbrooks(the car's second home) on Monday for the new parts to be fitted. The different coils will have to be mounted on the firewall (have fun Mark), the Holinger will require a new crossmember to be made up & the digital gear position indicator will need a suitable spot on the dash. I have had the R33 GTR wheels polished & will get the Nittos fitted next week ready for racing. Looking forward to driving the car again.Has been a long time between drives(only driven it 3 times this year so far!!!) & I will need some practice to get used to the Holinger gearbox. All good fun though.Be interesting to see how it goes when we put some boost into it(have only run 1.4 bar so far) & also how well the new Nitto tyres hook up. :burnout: See you on the street.

Good advice Lee, been practicing on the street with your 280rwkw eh? good stuff. New drag racer. Good on you. Get out there and have some fun. You will find that the strip is much stickier than the street, so do your burnout like Lee said, & roll straight up to the lights before you lose heat in the tyres.Unfortunately, the only way not to bog down is to use revs & dump the clutch.A word of warning though - try to keep the revs up, but only bounce off the limiter just before the ambers start coming down.Otherwise if the starter take his time with the lights you will be sitting on the limiter too long. Also - use the handbrake & let the clutch out slightly to load up the driveline( take out slack) or you may start breaking stuff. It will take practice(I'm still learning) so take your time & have fun. :uh-huh: :burnout:

That blue R34 GTR cruising the North Shore Streets
Munro replied to Blitz's topic in R Series (R30, R31, R32, R33, R34)
Hi guys, That R34 GTR blue is an awesome colour.I just got mine cut & polished for the first time since I've owned it & it came out great. The R34 at the start of this thread is a wild looking car.Personally I think the standard wheels are too understated for the aggressive look of an R34 & it's good to see something different on them. The R33 GTR is a great looking car, but the R34 has a much better interior & handles better too. For the same money as a std R34, you could have a crazy R33 though.Hmmm, I s'pose it depends how fast you want to go.:burnout: All Skylines are top cars.Just last night I was cruising with 6 or 7 pairs of stovetop lights in front of me.Always a great sight. Cruzin. -
I think you need to stop smoking the pipe Martin!:alcoholic

Hey guys, As the GTRs are in the show this weekend, I'll be bringing my new car. It's not a Nissan but I'm sure you'll like it.Is still new so will have to take it easy while still running in. See you Sat, Cheers.:newbie:

"34VSPEC" say no more. :uh-huh:

R33s are GAY??????????????????????????? Step outside and say that!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! S'pose R34s are gay too? Hmmm. I thought all skylines are great cars. Interesting to see that some people are so narrow minded that they can't accept advancing technology. To quote HPI 1st GTR special edition > " The three modern GT-R Skylines (R32,R33 and R34) have much in common, but each has a distinct character. Like three great wines, a knowledgeable driver will appreciate them all, but there is sure to be one that suits your palate best." :shake: :shake: :shake:

Well, what do you think, it bloody flies. He cant put his foot down all the way with "normal" street tyres on 'cause it torque steers all over the place! Thats why fast GTRs are so much fun. They are a challenge to drive. The Holinger box is fantastic.Cant wait to get mine. Nissan "chose" not to put a 3 litre in the GTR 'cause the RB30 does not exist in Japan, & neither did the very expensive 3 litre conversion at the time. You are right - the Australian RB30 will not rev like an RB26, but there are plenty of good engine builders out there that are screwing wild power out of RB30s. The OS 3 litre engine is not a same stroke/larger bore like the RB30.It uses the same bore size as the RB26, but a much larger stroke(from 73.7mm to 86mm)hence the spacer plate. These engines are quite happy at over 9000rpm & are extremely flexible. There is no such thing as cheating in Drag Racing.First over the line wins.Thats it.Whatever you can do to increase power - do. More boost, better intercooler, etc etc.The oldest saying in the book is - there is no substitute for cubic inches. :burnout:

Commercial Metal Polishers at Ryans Rd Greenfields (just off Pt.Wakefield Rd near Joes Golden Gasolines). Gino is the guy to see, he does a really good job.Cost - $600. Not cheap, but done properly a Jap wheel polished stays good for ages due to the high magnesium content in them. Just saw Dannys blue drift 180SX today with polished R34 GTR wheels on it.Looks great.Mad looking wheels when polished. So - what is everyones verdict for next weekend.I'd prefer an afternoon cruise on Saturday, then check out the show afterwards. Who else would be interested in Kmart Ingle farm @ 1.00pm & same route as last time(williamstown, birdwood etc.) Could end up at the Show around 3 ish then whatever after that. Went in Keir's RH9 GTR today - woohoo, Cool car. :uh-huh: :uh-huh: :uh-huh: :uh-huh: :uh-huh: :uh-huh: :uh-huh:

Hi there. Well, I went for a cruise today in Keir Wilson's 9 second R32 GTR. Very impressive car - smooth, tractable, & awesome acceleration. What impressed me the most was how street driveable it really is.It idles well, can take off in 3rd gear, & putts through the gears at fairly low revs without a problem. It still has Air conditioning, power steering,2 seats & being an Australian delivered car, it is in impeccable condition. Keir truly deserves the title of having the first Australian RH9 GTR. Well done to him & his Willall racing team - great effort. Cheers, Munro.

Trust 6 speed dog box
Munro replied to Munro's topic in For Sale (Private Car Parts and Accessories)
$15,000 inc gearbox, transfer case, trust shifter & custom bellhousing shield. Will bolt straight in & transform your car into an animal.Bit harder to drive - but worth it. PM for Ratios & History if interested. Regards, Munro. -
For Sale > Trust 6 speed dog engagement gearbox. Not for the faint-hearted. PM for details. Near new Nissan coil packs suit RB26.
-
G'day, My R33 has no gearbox in it so I wont be dynoing it! Keir's car makes 545 rwkw (not hp) so he will clean up if he takes it.I wont be suprised if he doesn't though. Why wear out such an expensive engine on a dyno shootout?I think a time card is much more value, & you get to "feel" the power. The R33 GTR rims have been polished & the Nittos should be here soon, but even though they would look great on the car for the show, I'll leave the R34 rims on it & keep the Nittos fresh for the drags.New cogs have arrived for the Trust 6 speed, so hopefully I can sell it before the Holinger is ready!New driveshafts are nearly ready & everything is looking good for a mid december run. So whats happening with the cruise on Sat 2nd?:uh-huh:
-
Hey guys, Both of my GTRs will be in the show on the Morpowa stand, but I'm happy to take one of my other cars on a cruise.Afternoon sounds good. If short cruise then go to show afterwards a Hills cruise following last route to birdwood etc? Or we could do the awesome victor lap on Sat & leave the show till Sunday. I'm pretty casual either way.Depends on numbers. When is the extreme horsepower cruise this weekend?

Thanks mate Looking forward to it.

The official RH9 sticker reads ; The street specs of GTR,0-400m 9 second's Record Holders Club. Danny(denzo) gave me his RH9 stickers when he stopped draging his white R32 GTR due to breakages.(has sick drift cars instead) I believe, in Japan, if a GTR runs street tyres & can drive out to the track, run nines then drive home again, it is a RH9 car. There is a fine line though. Most GTRs capable of running nines would be trailered to the track due to logistical reasons. Why wear out a highly tuned GTR in traffic when you can unleash it on the track? The problem we have in Australia is that the only "street tyres" they use in Japan(on all the serious cars anyway) are Nitto Extreme 555R tyres. These tyres are not legal on the street in Australia.Keir puts his on at the Track. So will I when they get here.(in transit now). Most of the fast cars in Jap run rollcages. Next problem - Once you run past 10.0 you must have a full roll cage with intrusion bars(Andra tech inspected).Up to 10.0 a 1/2 cage with intrusion bar on drivers side is ok.This is acceptable on the street(from a practicle point of view)but once you need a full cage the car becomes less practicle as a street car. At this level you must have a triple layer fire suit, fire resistant socks, boots, gloves, even underwear. Also arm restraints or window net plus 5 point harness etc etc. Once you hit 140mph through the traps a parachute in mandatory. So to be able to race a RH9 street car in Australia on a regular basis you have to turn it into a full blown, Andra tech inspected Drag car!!! Hmmm. Caught between a rock & a hard place. While we like to hang on to the "but it's a street car"mentality, I have had to face the hard truth that an 800hp,quad plate clutch/ holinger sequential/locked diffs, stripped out interior,Nitto wearing GTR is a RACE car with number plates.Add a roll cage & parachute and who are we kidding? No turning back now. Reece & Mario have cracked the nines. Now Keir has taken the title back to Adelaide with his beautifully built (Australian delivered!!!) R32 GTR. I am hot on his heels(when my Holinger gets here) & I'm sure there are a number of other crazy GTRs out there in the wings.Man. It's going to be an interesting summer. Never know. One day we might have our own competition GTR class! In the meantime, who's going to beat Reece's 9.518? :burnout:
