  1. I'm after a carbon fibre bonnet, just for looks, i have heard they are illegal because carbon fibre is weaker then a standard bonnet meterial, meaning if you were in an accident it would shatter not crumpel, a good mate of mine (signwriter) came to me and said he could put a carbon fibre vinyl cover (sticker) over the original bonnet, said it would look exactly the same, cheaper then all the hastle of getting an actual carbon fibre bonnet including price, shipment of something that size etc.., also this making it completely legal. only problem is i dont want to be seen as 'fake' opinions?
  2. yeah, for sure, im going to put it all togethor then get my friend to come around and make sure everythings right to go before i start anything up, good chance to learn for myself.
  3. giving up on it, dont have the time and money atm, selling my stock skyline and putting the turbo back in the other one. thanks everyone. been a great help, by the way if anyone wants to give me some pointers on putting my turbo back in, it would be a good help, i know where to mount everything and what pipes go to what, just not sure on where some of the thinner lines go, like the vaccuum line to the blow off valve for example, and theres small bendable metal bars coming out from near the turbo, not sure where they go either.. thanks everyone.
  4. by the way, i am definitely reading everything everyones saying, just exploring all my options before i go and waste more money on something that could turn out better if i did something else in the long run..
  5. i have 2 skylines and they have both done just over 100,000 killometers (so they wouldnt be much different then the cluster says), the only difference is ones a DE (grey) and the others a DET (blue). what if i changed the motors & ecu's over because one is tuned for a turbo and the other isnt, put the turbo into the grey r33 sell that as a DET because its no longer a DE (and make a little extra selling considering it would be turboed and its all got good parts), drove around with the DE in my blue r33 untill i get off my p's, buy brand new intercooler, turbo, piping, BOV,ECU in 10 months when i get off my p's? by that stage ill be able to install it all myself. then it will be an RB25DE+T which if im correct will efectivelly give me more power then the DET anyway because the compression is higher. my only concern is that its going to take a while to do (which means i wont have a car, and its 12 kays to work) and i have a feeling you guys are going to tell me its not going to be cheap.
  6. thanks a million "central coast people" for all that info, it does sound rather complicated, and i dont have an engine hoist, neither do i have a shed to work in just a driveway, when u look at an engine as someone who is just learning you dont realize that it could be that complicated, i will talk to my friend who has worked with quite a few cars in he's life, see if i can organize to do the whole lot in his shed where he does have a hoist, if not i'd honestly rather get it done by a professional, my car was in the mechanic for like 10 days they replaced my clutch, cat, horn, removed the turbo did 2 roadworthy's and a whole list of other stuff and he charged me $1800, including everything. someone said on this forum the other day that it would cost me 3 or 4 grand to get this done, now im not familiar with pulling apart a motor and changing the pistons, but shouldn't this take a fully qualified mechanic just a few days, considering they have every tool you need for anything.. im kinda confused how it could be that much for one thing to be changed, like for 4 grand i could go and buy a decent reliable 2nd hand car. also, mad028, my friend probably buys like 4 or 5 cars a year, does them up and sells them, some of them have been pretty sketchy under the hood as well, and he always gets them going really well.. so id dare say he knows what he's doing, its just a matter of weather or not he has time to get my car around and help me work on changing the pistons...
  7. also, i just paid like $900 for stamp duty and registration for the DET, im not really keen to leave it for 10 months and not drive it till it has 2 months of rego left, thats more of a waste, im happy to drive it without a turbo so i think ill just go for changing the pistons and ecu, getting a tune, use it as my daily, sell my other skyline so i make up a bit of cash from the waste of money, put the turbo back in in 10 months, then im laughing.
  8. yeah, i do have another skyline that runs fine, but ive been driving that one for like 18 months now and for the last 6 months the blue one has been sitting in my shed teasing me, i dont think im gonna bother with a mechanic this time round, just buy the ECU and high compression pistons, do it all myself with an old mate of mine that knows his shit about cars, im thinking i might get him around over a few weekends and work hard at it sat and sunday and give him $100 and a slab of beer, i can still drive my other car while this is being done so theres no time rush.. also with the greddy emanage, i can tune that to my standard DE but once i put the turbo back in because it is an aftermarket ECU can i then get it re tuned so it suits the turbo?
  9. yeh, i am going to do that tomorrow morning, what do you mean by try reseting it?
  10. okay, well luckily i own another r33 skyline RB25DE, it runs really good. so i can use this to get around while my DET is getting worked on.. to the last comment, what your saying is if i get non turbo pistons to replace the turbo pistons and a non turbo or aftermarket non turbo ECU and get it tuned my car will run like a non turbo RB25DE, lifting the compression to normal for a DE. and in a year when i get off my p's, put the turbo back in the car will be running like a RB25DE which has a higher compression ratio but on top of that it will have the turbo? i dunno why no ones brought this up, clearly its the best idea, who in my situation wouldn't do that? if the cars only going to run better in the end anyway.. btw if anyone wants to buy a 93' R33 RB25DE (gunmetal grey) ill be selling it early next year, done like 135,000 kays never had a problem.
  11. what i said is basically everything that happened, but okay i will go more into detail.. i was driving my car listening to music, turned my car off at the shopping center, got back in my car turned it on and the cd player had no power at all, still has no power. i checked every fuse that runs the electrics in my car, they are all un broken.. im not sure what to do next, does anyone have any ideas why it just stopped working?
  12. i was driving and my cd player just lost all power, the fuses are all fine even the one in the back of the actual cd player its self, i cant work out whats wrong.
  13. i wish my mechanic was me most of the time, i am still in the process of learning. i may as well try and hide it if cops can snag me weather its there or not at least i have a leg to stand on if i hide it, there not gonna see it either way so whats the difference, only thing is i dont think it will be an easy job to hide all the piping, intercooler, if they can see 2 sources of air intake they will know i have more air boosting my engine then im allowed to. im actually looking for an aftermarket standard ECU at the moment, someone told me its not actually possible to tune a factory ECU so id have to find an aftermarket one, ive used like 3 quaters of a tank in 4 days and ive barley been driving so im gonna have to get this done soon..
  14. yeah, that answers allot of questions, one would think my mechanic would have enough brains to work this out before taking my turbo off, coz im thinking i might put the turbo back in, hide it and just try my hardest to get away with it over the next 10 months, it was actually hidden before i got it removed, you can tell in the pictures i have in my account. do you think id get done for it?
  15. i understand what you mean by just taking the turbo off will make the car not run how its designed to, i am kind of new to this, but i just dont see how i cant take the engine to a previous step, because once in this cars life there was a time when it ran stock. i just wonna know what i need to do to make it run stock standard again, should i take it back to my mechanic and get other parts? or is it not worth the money?
  16. yeh was basically going to wait another 10 months before i drive it, so then i wouldnt have to worry about getting the turbo removed, i only bought the car because its mint as, and i talked the lady down $3,500 so it was well worth it, at the end of the day im not heaps worried turbo is going back in in 10 months, till then ill just deal with it and do what i can to make it run okay.
  17. the origional plan with the mechanic was to get hold of a standard manifold and ecu, had allot of trouble searching, mechanic rings me one day and says he has another idea, take out the turbo and run the pod straight into the manifold and in he's words it should still read boost okay, so to answer your question, no it still has the turbo ECU in it, looking for a standard one, but there not easy to find. basically all i want to do is get my car to run like a normal car, not to worried about speed and boost right now, i just want it to be comfortable to drive. as for the 2nd comment, i was talking to the lady at vicroads and she said i will be fine because all police personnel are trained to understand things like car engines, even if my vin number classifies my car as a GTS-T not a GTS, the officer on site is going to realise my car is non-turboed just by looking for the intercooler and piping running to the turbo, if theres no 2nd source of air intake im legally allowed to drive it.. were only allowed one source of air intake.
  18. recently got the turbo removed from my 1994 4 door R33 RB25DET. having allot of problems with its performance now, the engine runs perfect, doesnt over heat even on long distances (i drove it on the freeway for over 3 hours) but changing of gears is drastic, first gear when i take off it grinds even with my clutch all the way out when i change into second it does the same thing but it feels heavier (kind of sounds like somethings loose and rattling around) after 2nd gear it starts to run a little better no grinding sounds or anything but it still backfires and makes noises, then when i go around corners it feels like somethings not right like the cars about to roll over, it seems like the car is to heavy for the engine even tho i know the engine is a great engine because when the turbo was in there it ran roughly 290 horsepower. i have another r33 that has the exact same engine and it runs a trillion times better, kind of thinking the car might not have been tuned to suit the stock engine and is still trying to find the extra power that is clearly not there anymore, is it worth getting a dyno tune done on my car? or if theres any other problems people might know that i can work around please let me know.. thanks. ps got my tuebo removed because of p plate laws in victoria. not worth the risk.
  19. recently got my turbo, piping and intercooler removed from my 4 door 94' r33 skyline. i have a turbosmart plumback BOV as seen on ebay for $359 brand new (http://cgi.ebay.com.au/TURBOSMART-TURBO-BO...=item45eb9030cf) its still in good condition, 2 tiny scratches which do not effect the capability of how it works at all. ill sell this for $100 seperately. i have a PWR front mount intercooler, in good condition as you can see from the pictures, not sure on the dimensions but it came out of my r33 skyline, so it should fit in the front of any r33 skyline really, i am pretty sure this is the same intercooler (http://www.pwr.com.au/?gclid=CPqE6tfp4Z0CF...=products/s=is/) i have a NISSAN Turbo, dont know anything about turbos but it says nissan on the side of it so thats how im going to describe it, im sure you will know what it is from the pictures. not going to make a price for everything just want to get rid of it really.. so if you are interested send me an email [email protected] and let me know your price. im happy to sell this as a kit as well, also email me if this is what you are interested in. the last photos are of my car before all the stuff was taken out, nothing else in them pictures are for sale appart from what is described. cheers
  20. i have 2 r33 skylines an rb25de and an rb25det and i cant drive the turbo one for another 15 months if i dont get the turbo removed.. can i get a mechanic to do like a turbo/non turbo swap so my non turbo r33 will turn into a turbo and my turbo r33 will turn into a non turbo by swapping over the computers and the extractors and taking out the turbo/intercooler/piping/pod and putting it in my non turbo r33 and taking the k&n air filter i have and putting it in my turbo r33 and get both of the cars tuned?? i know there is another post about this but i also want to know if i need anything else? or will the parts from my stock r33 do fine? because the engines are the same..
  21. i am looking at doing this to, i have 2 skylines one is stock and the other is turbocharged, can i just take both my cars in get the ecu's and the extractors swapped over then get both the cars tuned? or would there be more to it? i dont know if this sends me a notification that someone replies to me so if possibly drop us an email [email protected]... cheers
  22. cant i just explain the situation and they can search my car, they will soon realize that its not turbocharged if i dont have an intercooler anywhere, but thanks mate i never really thought of that..
  23. ok, so i own a 93' r33 RB25DE and a 94' r33 (4 door) RB25DET brought the second one about 3 months ago unroadworthy, unregistered.. thats okay i have a basic understanding of what i need to do to get it on the road.. but the problem is i don't actually come off my victorian green p plates until november 2010 which is still 15 or so months away (f**k that) and i cant drive a turbocharged car till I'm on my full license, i did apply to drive a turbocharged car whilst still on my green p plates but never heard anything back from vicroads.. i am looking at getting my engines swapped over in the 2 r33's and selling the 93' r33 with the turbo engine in it.. engine bays look the same, it is the same sized engine.. i just want to know is there anything i need to worry about for example the length of the cars as one is a 4 door it might change something in the length.. just don't want to go wasting my money on anything.. cheers
  24. ok i have my neon lights wired into a switch now (thanks to the person who helped me) but im still having problems with my internal lights, all my fuses are good but i still have a faint clock no power to my cd player and the emergency sound for when u leave your lights on is there but faint also.... anyone who knows what ive done wrong please help
  25. nope i keep blowing headlight fuses... do you mean set the neon up positive to headlight 12v wire and negative to earth, then connect another wire to the switch positive to the wire and negative to earth? im a tad confused
