  1. I can see how people think this way, but having worked in hospitals pretty much ever since I left school, and before that, having a nurse for a mother, you get a pretty good insight into what these people (emergency workers) go through. Have a little respect for THEM.You cannot go moping around every single time a tragedy happens, when you see as many as they do it would tear you apart mentally. What you have to do is distance yourself from the situation, try not to think too much about the "omg he was someone's son" aspect of things. Everyone has a different way of coping with a traumatic event, for some people (myself included actually) one such coping mechanism is to laugh at it. Not at the event, but at the trauma, the upset, and whatever other feelings are trying to bring you down at the time. The act of laughing, even if it is at nothing in particular, can help to nullify the effects of a very traumatic event. Also, sometimes the laughter is a REACTION to the trauma. I've been in a children's ward when a young child has died after a long battle with a serious illness, and two of the staff in the room got the giggles. They weren't laughing - they were in fact crying hysterically - but mammoth amounts of built-up stress with a sudden release can give those kinds of results.
  2. Good to hear mate, will have to have a looksy at the mag
  3. Holy sheet man, top effort Doesn't look like there was too much damage though, just fan, shroud, radiator and obviously the pump itself. Was the fan wedged into the rad or did it hit that then go for a trip around the engine bay? That 50c piece floating around your water pump wouldn't have done it any favours.
  4. I have no idea how much power mine is making (or "was" I should say, my coils are dying now...) but I'm averaging around 450-500km to a tank. That's with a T3/4, pod, and a PowerFC that's pretty much on the base map (I tidied it up a bit but nothing much). When the car was 100% stock (stock exhaust, stock everything) I managed a 900+ km trip (which was nearly all highway km's) on one tank. All things being equal, you could make 600hp out of your engine, and still retain acceptable fuel economy. It all depends on how much of that power you use, and how often One other point to make - be proactive about your driving. Look ahead, and prepare for things before you get to them, don't wait until you're already there and then react to them. When I'm driving along on the highway or whatever, I always back off the throttle to the point JUST BEFORE the car will start to slow down, rather than backing off until the car stops picking up speed or just holding your foot in one place. As you approach a hill (not once you're already at it), give just enough throttle to get the turbo spooling lightly and let the car hold speed up the hill. A lot of people get to the hill, the car slows down a bit, and they react to the car's slowing down by accelerating back up to the limit, which uses more fuel and is nowhere near as smooth. If you get caught in heavy traffic, smooth out the stop-start movement by averaging the speeds the cars in front are doing. They'll go between 0 and say 20km/h, you could sit on around 10km/h in first gear, idling along, using bugger all throttle and reducing the number of times you have to start from standstill. These kinds of things becomes second nature and do make a big difference to fuel economy.
  5. Imagine? There was a twin turbo 454 with open pipes that turned up at one of the dams we used to frequent. It was a friggen unit, had a 3 speed auto behind it too... boogied reeeeeal hard pulling skiiers up (I have no idea how they didn't have their arms torn out of their sockets), then you'd see it almost idling along at like 50 knots next lap around. I think from memory it was called Far Canal or Far Kme or something along those lines... whatever it was, I remember thinking "how appropriate"

    Please Help!

If noone closer is able to help you out, I have a trolley jack, but Ipswich is a long way to come. I'd be happy to drop it out, but I'm so skint at the moment I can't afford the fuel to get to Beenleigh... sorry Actually if you're coming down this way I have a whole workshop with a hoist I could probably nab if it's only a quick job. What are you doing?
  7. Well, apparently R33 stuff fits straight in. IT DOESN'T. The springs in the rear are wider on the R33, so won't fit back over the stock struts and under the strut cap. I'm unsure whether you can change to the R33 struts as well, which of course would fix this problem, but the rear springs from an R33 are not the same as those in the C34 Stagea. Fronts are not a problem though Gary bought Kings Springs, straight from Kings I believe.
  8. Could be coils if it starts happening before you get to the limiter - mine starts misfiring at around 4500, and I don't usually see more than that because it feels terrible. I understand that the car isn't running properly, but why do you want it to bounce off the limiter? If you're accelerating, hitting the limiter is costing you time, if you're doing a burnout, backing off the throttle a fraction should make bugger-all difference to smoke output, and if you're trying to drift, hitting the limiter generally means that you either have no throttle control or you're doing it wrong. Learn throttle control - your car will thank you for it, and you'll be a better, quicker driver.
  9. Knocking the timing around isn't usually a good idea - you can bump the base timing back 5 degrees to counter it, but once you get up it, everything will be 5 degrees retarded so performance and fuel economy will suffer. Putting the Wolf back in (or going for something like a PFC) and having it properly tuned isn't an option?
  10. Holy resurrect a thread batman! Why bother washing the car, the paint will be rooted in 10 years' time anyway. It'll be due for new tyres too eventually, so I might as well just torch the crap out of the ones I've got. I don't see what's so anal about not flogging an engine until it's had time to warm up. I mean really, who in their right mind canes any car when it's stone cold? If you see anyone caning a cold engine, feel free to call them an idiot. I looked after my VC Commodore no differently than I do the R33, except that the 33 will idle without pumping the throttle for the first couple of minutes
  11. Packer or packee?
  12. Aah ok, nah mine seems fine with load on or off the engine. I've just had a look in the engine manual, they recommend between 0.4 -> 0.5V at 0% throttle.
  13. Looks mighty familiar
  14. My TPS is at 0.65V at 0% throttle. Setting it here may have fixed the hunting problem I had, but I did a few other things at the same time so it could have been any of them.
  15. Mine went really well for about 5 mins, then it ****ing started missing again. I was getting all excited too, it starting barking up at the top of second (which I haven't been able to do since the problem first started) and then I headed for the highway... by the time I got there, the problem was as bad as before. Damn. I'm investigating aftermarket coils too. Splitfires retail for $1095 iirc, but I've seen them advertised for $950, so with some more digging and haggling, you should be able to score a set for $800. Maybe. I'll be checking for leaks in the intake piping (already have but I'll go over it with a fine-tooth comb) and also for gaskets that are marginal etc. I'll also be doing things like making sure that the coils are earthed correctly, though I'm not sure that will work, given that it worked fine for a bit and then stopped working. I know that PC's don't work as well when they get hot (as in, up to operating temp, not melting point), are coils affected the same way?
  16. If you go second hand, glass is the easy bit, finding window rubbers in a reusable condition might be more difficult. That said, I think many of the mobile windscreen mobs do Skyline glass these days. I have no idea how much, but it might be worth a call. Do your worst
  17. Nice find http://www.revolfe.com/menu/original/item/...mbo/brembo.html :aroused: :drooling:
  18. Any plastic welding place should be able to remove it and flatten it for you.
  19. 4150 - Ouch, that's about what, AU$4500? Just as well someone else is footing the bill bendertiger - I think what Streeter was getting at is that the road toll per head of population is nowhere near as bad as that of many other countries. I never got the impression he was in any way diminishing the severity of fatal incidents, we all know they're bad. When people refer to 'acceptable' road tolls, they're not saying that they don't care about those that have died, but in a world where so many people drive, it's inevitable that some people will die. Tragic, unfair, and very upsetting, but true. I could not agree more that indicators, right of way, shitboxes etc are not policed enough. They can't put a camera on the side of the road to rake in the cash, so it's not publicised to anywhere near the levels of speeding. Speed limits should be enforced, but the almost zero-tolerance garbage we have here in QLD (and it's worse in NSW and especially VIC) would be laughable if it wasn't so serious. I've lost people in car accos too, and I've worked in hospitals for the past six years, so I know exactly what you're going through. Edit: re-read post, didn't make sense
  20. Yes, it goes to the factory boost control solenoid, so if the EBC is taking care of that properly, you can (and I would recommend it) block off that hose.
  21. Yep - you have to pull the back seat out (do a search, I think there is a how-to on that somewhere), and pull the grilles off the speakers and remove the child restraints. Between the speakers there are a couple of clips, my preferred method of getting these off is to slide my hand under the parcel tray carefully (palm up) and feel around until you find the clips. Once you've found them, get your fingers as close to the clip as possible and push up until it pops out. Don't push on the clip itself because it'll probably push through the weak fibreboard parcel tray. Repeat for the other clips (mine has a total of three if I remember correctly). Then just pull the parcel tray out.
  22. 4150 - damn, I know exactly how you feel... it takes every bit of self control not to go mental at the idiot whose inattention has damaged your pride and joy! I would be interested to know what the insurance quote is though, if you're happy to share it. I've heard Japanese panel shops charge like wounded bulls. My tail ender cost the other driver's insurance company a couple of dollars shy of AU$1500 to fix, with very similar damage to yours, though it looks like yours was a harder hit.
  23. I was quoted between $420 and $500 for a full set of six good condition, second hand coils, though I managed to find a full set for $300. Will whack them in tomorrow and experience full throttle goodness once again
  24. Oh no, the armless jokes have begun!!
