  1. dp.. Dont be a smart ass John btw that radiator shroud you sold me was broken. But basically what I said before about low comp and excessive piston blowby was right. Probably worn valveseats and springs as well but in Laymans terms, yes engine was tired.. Just the way you were talking I thought there was something you had changed but werent telling us what it was.
  2. so do you know the answer? Or is there no actual answer?
  3. yeah but joe flogs his and I know mine hits limiter everytime its out of the shed and the can is dry as well. Doesnt necesarily mean compression is perfect and there is no blowby. Or does it?
  4. Ok , i wasnt sure on that..but still doesnt answer the question why did it make better power? Also do you think if you could dyno exactly the same car on the same dyno on a cold day and a hot day, correction would give you the same result?
  5. yeah but once you have 3 kids u may as well give up on owning performance unless you got heaps of cash to splash your only real choice is a truck or a van because room is now a higher priority than performance.. Ok you can fit 3 kids in a sedan but its squishy and you will need a trailer to carry all their shit when you go on holidays. Just face facts mate you need something with seven seats cause 3 kids stuck in the back of a car get irritable very quick.. So i suggest a 4wd of some sort or a kia carnival sorry t say i just looked in the back of an i30 too and you aint fitting 3 kids in their happily id also like to change my mondeo vote to the Captiva because 1.screw bending over to do up all those babyseats 2. i'm not another VW fanboy ford are about to relesae a diesel territory as well but Its ugly
  6. yeah I may be wrong here but I beleive a dyno corrects for air temp, it doesnt dorrect for air density which is where you would get the extra power.. iE 18psi of dense air could be equal, or possibly better than 20psi of thin air Add to that better compression, = less blowby pushing more exhaust gas giving you better spool times . Also better bearings and oil pump creating less engine drag. i also believe you are using a different oil now as well, what oil did you tune it on, the castrol edge or something else? As i said ,it all contributes
  7. yeah its a fresh engine of course, but it all contributes and Id say the air temps in melbourne have been turbo heaven this week, I mean there is ice falling from the sky
  8. extra power wouldnt have something to do with this freezing winter air could it i know the intake temps on my mazda have been 15 degrees lower than normal all this week, right now its on 34 2 weeks ago it was 56, its a big difference
  9. yeah remove hicas and chunky sway bars probably thicker on the back..would be my first thoughts but thats just a thought not experience
  10. ...........
  11. I really dont know why you bother, i guess old habits die hard hey
  12. both will be great , or you could go the new gtx3071 and have a bit of both worlds there is a whole thread devoted to 3071 vs 3076 search and ye shall find..
  13. yeah but how much is it.. The money you all brag about saving in fuel is spent on the intial purchase cost so the only really advantage is you dont have to stop for fuel as often..OP really should of put a priceframe. on another note you can get a brand new Nissan navara 3lt diesel dual cab 2x4 for just over 30k. Who cares how fast it is , its built like a truck
  14. was talking to a guy with an 07 audi the other day as he filled it with oil at the servo, says it uses at least a litre a week.. Although i think the premature wear of newer diesels is often to do with the way they are driven like petrols.. Guy at work with a bt50 nearly 400k on the clock not a problem even on original clutch still. Only problem he had was because he didnt change timing belt at 120k, it got to nearly 200k befor it snapped.. So they are definately reliable, admittedly they are a bit ruff and unrefined , noisey like a tractor. But lag can be mostly tuned out with an aftermarket ecu or pgiiyback system
  15. Really, how fuggin stupid is that. But the mondeo does? what was wrong with the subaroo?
  16. haha, yeah i was a bit vague. I went to the motorshow last year and after hopping in and out of every car there the mondeo is so easy to get in and out of, the door openings are big and you dont have to twist or wriggle to get in.. It may sound silly I know but i really was amazed at how easy it was. But overall if your keen on diesel at a reasonable price i reckon the ford/mazda range is hard to beat, their diesels through the whole range from sedan to 4wds are all based around the same design. Although maybe not as advanced as the big germans they are much better value for money. Ok the i30 will do everythin but its butt ugly and has no appeal whatsoever other than price, i wouldnt even be bothered washing it cause no matter how clean it was it would still look shit.. Now if all you are after is an appliance thats great get one, but i like a car i can take a little pride in. Is there a reason we have ruled out the mazda 6 it has the same driveline as the mondeo and is much nicer looking wagon, if i was in the market for a diesel wagon i reckon it would be my pick for sure, they have some real nice colours too Brand new euros really are for those with a silver lining in their pocket and its an expense i know personally I couldnt justify. i would rather get the ford/ mazda and spend my spare 20k on a holiday to America or something fun for my family. then again if i had 3 kids id be looking at vans like a honda odyssey or something
  17. how so jas? Is it running the same driveline?
  18. hyundais are boring all of them. mondeo TD ftw, just try getting in and out of one u will see what i mean
  19. yeah flange will be the hardest part i know front /dump is 3 inch atm into 4 inch cat then 3.5 after cat, i was thinking 3.5 inch front pipe to cat, dump can be 3 inch it shouldn't matter whatevers easiest. And cheers Dave I will get back to you if we get stuck on that
  20. you never watched Srapheap challenge??
  21. Cheers Dave, just looks like I bend over another as Dale mentioned.. I think the hardest bit will be cutting the top pipe to fit, but Scottnm35 who does my fab has skills and his own lab so I'm sure it will be a no-brainer for him..
  22. I was always under the impression diesels ran low boost..
