Lol, same thing happened to me one day. Looked in someone elses engine bay, looked back at mine, fk missing piece. They're damn cheap, I bought mine for $40 plus delivery. Turbo and non turbo airboxes are different!!!! And they certainly aren't worth $230. The parts for sale forum on here usually has heaps of useful bits and pieces, and if there aren't any snorkels on there, there will be soon. Sucks about the engine bay paint, hope the seller knocked some of the price off to apologise!

Police Powers And Your Rights
Galois replied to Johnny Cash's topic in General Automotive Discussion
I'm as sure as I can be of the day, I was a little shaken as it's honestly the first bad experience I've had being pulled over, but I pulled over soon after to remember as best I could and document the event. I would be far more specific in court, but i figured readers on here don't need to hear my detailed, obviously one sided arguments. To be honest I don't blame the officer, I just think he was distracted monitoring the other cars in the heavy traffic, and getting quite a distance up the road from me. When I pulled into the middle lane after overtaking a few cars I had someone tailgating me (and speeding, that's beyond the point though). I also accept that if I was in his position and I didn't see the car in question move out of the right lane over a period of X km I may have done the same thing, ie book them. I certainly know I got him in a bad mood, if there was ever a time to record a conversation, that was it. But again he's a guy with a life outside of our interaction, I don't blame him for that. To be completely honest, I just feel unlucky. I also concede that as a judge I'd take the word of an experienced officer over some young guy wasting the courts time on a small-ish offence. But, as you say, I have no evidence, and whether or not he can produce any is irrelevant. But thanks rb25 for confirming that, I'll just have to pay the fine. With a dying family member, final year of uni and working on my plate I really want to avoid wasting a day in court getting humiliated. Seriously considering a dash cam though lol. I know that there would be very few police that would abuse their powers, intentionally anyways, but rb25 what would you do if you felt you were unfairly punished on the road? Or is there little to no tolerance for police off duty? Or, is it settled more civilly in house (I don't mean corruptly, but an officer booked for doing a few km over is a different case to some hoon)? -
It is easy to add some extra boost plus exhaust, that's enough for almost all aus v8's (excluding the high power hsv's and fpv). Aren't the xr6t's quicker then the equivalent ss's?

Million Dollar Ferrari 599 Gto Crashes On Autobahn
Galois replied to craig V8 taffe's topic in General Automotive Discussion
How is it "one of the greatest cars of all time"? When clarkson reviewed it in the italian job it was no where near as precise as the 458, and when he reviewed it in the wet on top gear it looked horrific, bucking about like trying to drift a rotten stock 90s commodore -
How Would You Build A Street Sleeper?
Galois replied to R33_Dude's topic in General Automotive Discussion
Friggin awesome thread!! Love the v8 volvos, they're so cheap to buy! Also never thought I'd see a volvo anywhere near an r1, but that's the good thing about the sleeper. I reckon a legnum is the way to go. Not exactly pretty, they look like a volvo mated with a merc estate and the resulting spawn rear-ended a lancer. But they're fairly quick, very rare, damn cheap and of the half dozen I've ever seen, none of them drove like a douche. All a good recipe to keep below the radar. -
Police Powers And Your Rights
Galois replied to Johnny Cash's topic in General Automotive Discussion
I guess here is a best place as any to ask: I was driving my magna from Sydney to Newcastle a couple of months ago. After about 3 minutes on the f3 we (my partner and I) saw a motorbike policeman pulling someone over. The traffic was pretty heavy, I had cruise control on the speed limit and was overtaking regularly. The police officer quickly caught up and spend the next 10 or so minutes between 50m behind us and 200-300m in front, looking every driver in the face as he overtook them. After about 15km he dropped back, and as I pulled into the middle lane he light up the lights and pointed to me. I was booked for travelling in the right lane... while physically acting to not do that. I was told that I had been travelling in the right lane for the extent of the freeway up to that point, that I was holding a bunch of cars up, that I was intentionally travelling slowly, that I was not overtaking and that I had caused several people to move into the middle and left lanes to undertake me. When I went to argue he told me to take it up with a court. None of which was in any way accurate Now I travel between sydney and newcastle on a weekly basis and have done so for a couple of years now, and I know that I have literally spent hours trapped behind slow cars in the right lane. I absolutely hate lane hogs and recognise how dangerous it is to undertake. More to the point, I have always been very aware of travelling in the right lane and have NEVER been in the right lane whilst not overtaking. I'm not really sure what to do, I have no evidence to say that I was abiding the law, so to go to court would just be mr plod's word against a 24 year old male. Not ideal. I wrote a letter to the leniency/appeals board who said that they cannot do anything to help and that I still have the option to take it to court. So I guess my only practical option is to pay the ~$280 fine and cop the 2 demerit points, as there's a few stories of people spending thousands on court fees and then loosing the case as well. (Also, my first two demerit points, I owned an r34 gtt for 14 months and get loose my first two a couple of months after buying a magna). Thanks in advance for any advice -

Never knew how small soarers looked compared to an r35. Why are there so many flyers on your car? Eagleboys go apesh!t for soarers?

Hahaha awesome thread! Welcome to sau mate. I'm guessing 4 door? which model? You're gonna have a blast. From what I understand/remember, you don't have to go through all the pain-in-the-arse learning and p-plate stages if you're above a certain age? Maybe you'll get that vspec sooner than you think (don't think they come in auto tho ) -

I laughed so fkn hard at that. Prior to reading this thread I'd been really put off soarers because of a mate of mine's, which had nothingn till like 5k rpm then had heaps, it was really not fun to drive. They're damn cheap too
-
Maybe that was part of it. The earlier au v8's weren't much good though, it was the later au's that had a lot more torque over the xr6 (500Nm). I think the torque came on song earlier too, someone can confirm that though. With a v8 you don't want to be revving to get the torque, the thing's don't rev and have like a 5k redline. On towcars, massive topic here http://www.skylinesaustralia.com/forums/topic/272151-good-tow-cars/

Lol, funny you say that, paragon and i had a good chat about it. Unfortunately it wasn't quite right for him (trailer-wise). Thanks for the plug the trozzle!

It's a fantastic sport and you'll have a blast mate. Karting forums often mention that if you're going a bit slow it's a problem with the spacer. Spacer refers to the item between the steering wheel and the seat, ie: the driver. It is true that if you buy a brand new chassis and engine you'll have an advantage, but it is mostly driver skill. I'm sure lewis hamilton could get in a kart 10 years older than the field and blitz them, at sub world class anyways. Setup also makes a big difference, by changing to the correct jet you can save a full second a lap. But instead of spending the best part of 10k on new parts, you can buy a kart plus engine for 2500 and go. Mine is for sale for 5k ono now, and i really regret leaving the sport. Unfortunately I can't afford it atm, I couldn't afford to keep the r34 either. One more point, if you exchange some paint on a track day it's a big pain. If you do it in a kart it's just normal racing. There are no fancy paint jobs to scratch or delicate panels to bend. I've seen some fairly high speed crashes (maybe 80km/h backwards into the tyre wall) where the person dragged his kart back onto the track and started up again, kart un-damaged. I look forward to the day I get back into it, but at the moment I'm just trying to get enough money together to last this year at uni, so I can get out and earn some money!

Ooh yeah that happened to me once. Check the terminal connections, if they're loose they can completely shut the car down

Searching will give you all the answers my friend. But I'll tell you all I know anyway. With stock turbo, unless it's highflowed, I very much doubt you're getting anything over 210rwkw, and even that seems rare and unlikely based on the dyno thread in the forced induction section (go have a look, people list their mods and their dyno results). Also why do you want to do mods if you don't know what they'll do? You upgrade duel pump and injectors when the stock ones can't shift the fuel your engine can consume. This usually comes with a bigger turbo. Bigger turbo usually means more lag and 2-3k out of pocket. If I were you and was after more power I'd get mine high flowed then tuned. I think bosch is the preferred fuel pump for skylines, an awful lot easier to fit as it just bolts right in, though do a search to confirm that. Plenums are useful for some gains if you have cash to throw at the engine and you're doing an engine build. You have to ask yourself, to you think upgrading the stock plenum is the best way of getting more power at this stage of modification? On coilpacks, I went yellow jackets. They're as good as splitfires, $200 cheaper and have a 2 year warranty. The only reason I can find that splitfires are still so popular is that they've been around much longer (though yellow jackets have been around for years now). Your factory coilpacks will die eventually, it's up to you whether you wait for a misfire to replace the coilpacks. Read this http://www.skylinesaustralia.com/forums/topic/282082-nissan-skyline-r34-gtt-modificationtuning-guide/ then have a good search. This is a great forum, all the info people may need is already on here.

There seem to be plenty in syd, have a search. Just make sure you go to one recommended on here. Otherwise you might end up with another mechanic horror story like many of us on sau. Look/ search in the nsw forum, a fair few names came up in a thread maybe 6 months ago

I agree with the cowboy above, but I was also watching the speedo and there was a big difference between it and the r34 (running on 12-13 psi with exhaust, nothing too fancy). In terms of feel it felt slower than my current magna, but i don't think that was the case. Also, unless I'm mistaken, the ba v8 was a crapload better than the au. The numbers on the au xr8 over the xr6 arent great for the au: xr6 172 kW @ 5000 rpm 370 Nm @ 3500 rpm xr8 185 kW @ 4600 rpm 412 Nm @ 3500 rpm I'd go the xr6. Actually I would and did go magna. Not sure how it'd go towing a car though. There was a towcar thread on here a little while ago that in a nutshell strongly recommended people buy big 4wds so that the 2 tonnes of gear following can be kept under control.

I read something ages ago on bmw and merc thinking of joining the v8 supercars. The problem for them is their high-tech cutting-edge engines are completely different to the fat-ass v8 engines being raced. 5 years i was watching a commentator describing the experience of being near a v8 supercar engine doing 7500rpm on the bench, whereas european cars at the same time were doing that from factory (yes i know the power output is different and the racecar tune ould be more aggressive). Anyways, the thing biggest hurdle they (merc and bmw) were talking about was spending the time and money in r&d for essentially low tech dumbed down engines.

I've had that three times on my kart sale. It's fked up. I just keep replying with "since I've got several similar emails with the same grammatical errors, spelling mistakes and minor variations in situation, I'll have to insist on cash upon pick up". And I never hear back
