R33 Gtr 95 Showroom Condition
Cowboy1600 replied to Mr Chris's topic in For Sale (Private Whole cars only)
Wow. I know you don't want to hear this, but if I had $30k I'd snap this up in a second. Let me rephrase, if I was in the market for a $30k car, I'd snap this up in a second I have $30k, just not for spending on a car I do have ~$18k though, so if you get desperate That thing is immaculate, and black is the new black. -

I'll include a Greddy Emanage Ultimate with harness as part of the deal. Not yet installed. So $5k with the EMU + harness for a very good nick 33 which needs a tiny amount of work for roadworthy. -

Would You Use, And How Much An Hour Would You Pay
Cowboy1600 replied to Tektrader69's topic in General Automotive Discussion
But what if a car falls off the back, or it gets a flat tyre? As for hoists, you're jinxed. I've got 2 very good friends who have ~35 years experience between them and probably 4 other friends with double that again and I know that the 2 good and 2 of the not so good have never seen a hoist collapse. Haven't asked the other two yet but I'm pretty sure they haven't. So ~80+ years between them as a mechanic and not a single hoist collapse. You claim to have seen two. If I start one of these businesses up, you're banned! Have you taken a look at the Facebook pics of that joint in WA? Very professional, very clean, obviously well maintained, or at lest it's going to be. That is what I would envisage. A clear, stocked workshop, not some junky joes scummy backyard job. I'd also aim to have, perhaps not a qualified mechanic, although they can be had for ~$50k pa, but someone with some nous when it comes to cars. It wouldn't be a minimum wage slave who quite frankly couldn't care less. It'd be someone who loves cars, such as myself, if it was financially viable to work it myself. EDIT: Also, safety and security of stored cars would be absolutely paramount. Word would spread very quickly if people's cars were getting messed with and your business would evaporate overnight. -

When have you ever heard of a hoist just collapsing? Seriously? That's daft. And slipping over? You're more likely to slip over a spilt coke at Maccas. Oil won't be left on the floor because A) everything will be done to avoid it getting there in the first place and B) it will be cleaned up immediately, and fully, as per the agreement on the door. Should I not open a corner store in case the milk fridge breaks down? Every business relies on machinery to some extent. To not have some kind of redundancy is plain stupid. Have a 2nd compressor, FFS, if you business relies on having one operational at all times. And again, who said anything about not having freaking insurance? It's not that darstardly, really. And a workshop like this is a shit load less dangerous than say a go kart track, but they exist, don't they? Struth. -

No one has anything swapworthy? I'll take $5k for it, but you'll struggle to get me to go any lower than that. -

Why is everyone so scared of PLI? It wouldn't be any more than a few grand a year, tops. In fact, I'm hit up some of our brokers next week and find out. -
Only if you have 50% of a brain, or more. Like the old adage goes, "a fool and their money are soon parted."

A day at a BYO workshop = $200 A day at the mechanics = $800 Pretty simple maths, really. -

I reckon this is a seriously good idea. I would defo use it. I have ZERO space to work on cars/bikes at home. I'm soon to tackle an engine swap on my bike and it's going to be an absolute cnut of a job. Laying on gravel on the side of a hill trying to stop bolts rolling down the driveway can root a boot. If I could pay a couple hundred bucks for the use of a clean, equipped workshop for a day I would do it in a second. I used to have access to just such a thing but unfortunately my mate has recently moved to Tassy so I no longer have such a workshop. I also like the idea of it not being someone's workshop where they are trying to conduct business around you. Purpose built for me to come and work on my vehicles. Setup wouldn't be outrageous. You can lease a 500m2 commercial building for <$40k pa . Get a couple of 4 posters and a couple of 2 posters for ~$20k. Tools will set you back $10k for 5 well equipped 200pc Kingchrome boxes + an assortment of speciality tools. Add another $15k for compressor, hoses, hand cleaner, degreaser bath, air blaster, bead blaster, die grinders, and all that kind of stuff. Another $5k for a spray booth (doesn't have to be fancy, just an air tight, filtered environment). $5k for a cafe with coffee machine and some lounges. Insurance isn't as difficult as it would seem. the whole "insurance killed the radio star" is bollocks. So setup is ~$60-$65k. You only need yourself and maybe one other part -timer running it. Turnover would need to be in the vicinity of $200k which I don't think would be too difficult to achieve, especially if you tapped the car club vein and set yourself up as somewhere to hang out as well as get work done. -
Time For A New Daily Cruiser Any Recomendations
Cowboy1600 replied to Longz's topic in General Automotive Discussion
Find yourself a tow truck driver and ask him the most common marque he picks up and I bet it'll be BMW closely followed by Mercedes. German reliability my arse. -
Well a change of circumstances calls for a change of vehicle so the Skyline is up for sale/swaps. I was involved in a very, very light touch late last year and the car copped the lightest damage to the front right. The day after I had parked the car at the Hurstbridge train station (about 1100m from my house) and at 8:18 that night a copper drove through, saw the damage and left me a defect notice. It took an eternity to get the insurance sorted (through the guy who hit me) and in that time the rego was suspended (I wasn't going to fix it until I new it wasn't going to be taken by the insurance). So there we are. 1994 R33 GTS-T Coupe Manual ~170k ks $5500 ono or swaps for a 4 door r32/r33 GTS-T manual with cash your way if necessay. Also interested in any other four doors or station wagons. Mush be interesting/turbo and manual. Needed for roady - Probably a front bar cover Small amount of panel bashing the front right, or a new guard Probably a windscreen (RWC mechanics tend to be a stickler for windscreens) Front tyres replaced but only because they rub lightly on the inner guards (currently fitted are 235/45/17 - fine tread wise) Grille - the damaged one could very easily be fixed though, like very easily. Remove boost tee It'll then need a bit of a general tidy up/panel beating to get everything to fit properly, but really not much. I have 2 headlights to go with it. They are in excellent condition. A couple of very small holes in the rear muffler patched Will need a new battery. If I think of anything else which needs mentioning, I'll put it up. The good points! The car is/was in excellent condition. It's been resprayed at some stage a very dark, metallic purple. Looks great although it's got a few typical scratches/chips on it. Engine is perfect Gear box is good, though syncros on 4th are shot. Apart from that it's very tight. No creaks, rattles, squeeks from diff/suspension. New Clutch New rear tyres (chongshen specials) Big FMIC behind the bar (stealth). Comes with pod filter AND stock airbox (currently fitted) Comes with two excellent headlights and one good left Good JVC headunit/speakers altho sub will be comming out Interior very clean, straight and complete (apart from boot - a bitsa back there). Been boosted to ~9PSI for about the last 2-3000ks of it's life. Stock boost always prior to that. Starts first click, revs perfect, no smoke. New radiator. I love this car and will be sad to see it go, but I need a four door. PICS TO COME Call/SMS me on 0418 994 629 Car is located in Hurstbridge, north east of Melbourne. Can be viewed weekdays after 6pm and weekends (except fo rthis weekend!)

LOL @ you for not thinking with your brain. He won't need an 25 box if his 30 is only running say 200-250kw. Just becasue you have the ability to run over 300kw doesn't mean you have to. Keep it sane until the money allows and upgrade bits one by one until you have the strenght to whick it up some more. The 30 makes way more sense than reco'ing a 20..

That's gotta be the single dumbest thing I've ever seen written here.

I concur. And there's no better way to deflate the excitement balloon than get fcuked around for 3 weeks all the while itching to get your car. By the time you finally get it home you hate it cause of all the crap which came along with it. I've seen people go through exactly that before.

Fail To Give Way - To Challenge Or Not To Challenge In Court?
Cowboy1600 replied to some_cs_student's topic in Victoria
I don't think your chances are as slim as you would think. It's not unusual for the po-po to throw out fines expecting them to stick even when they know they do not have much of a case. I wouldn't be at all surprised if, now the coppers have to sit down and build a case against you, that they decide to withdraw the charge. And I would be surprised if the worst case was anything more than the Magistrate handing you the absolute bare minimum possible penalty. I would expect, however, that he dismisses all charges as I think any reasonable person would agree that you were not doing anything wrong. Technically you may have, but this is not an open and shut case and the Magistrate will have room to decide for himself and most Magistrates are reasonable people, and have often been known to place closer scrutiny on the po-po that the civvie. And don't forget, the po-po will have to PROVE that you broke the law, you don't have to prove you didn't, unless the police really have something solid to hit you with. -
On another note, is all this fcuking around really worth the hassle? Do you stand to make so much in savings that it's worth all the time and effort? What do "you" make an hour? ie. how much does one hour of time contribute to your business? If you are as successful as you souond, I'd say your "hourly rate' Is quite high. Now how many hours have you spent fcuking around thus far? Divide your savings by that and what's the result? I've never understood the absolute need to squeeze every last penny out of every transaction I've ever made. But then again I've never been terrifically wealthy. I've been poor though, so I suppose I know the need to scrimp more than any, but this kind of fcuking around has never made sense to me. Anywho, offer still stands to put you in touch with a top quality broker, should you wish. Take cash, buy car, enjoy car. One great way to deflate a purchase like this is to put yourself through such unnecessary hassle.

Fail To Give Way - To Challenge Or Not To Challenge In Court?
Cowboy1600 replied to some_cs_student's topic in Victoria
I'd say go into court, explain the situation and the magistrate will throw it out quick smart. TBH I personally wouldn't even bother with a lawyer, but that's because I am confident I can explain the situation clearly and concisely. If you are not then you may wish to price up a lawyer (note it won't be cheap). Magistrates are generally reasonable and quite frankly there's not a person alive (notice I said person, some police aren't people) who would not find this totally unreasonable. Technically there may be some way you are responsible, but in this case the magistrate will have powers of discretion and so long as what you say is factual and you are polite and concise I'd be amazed if he didn't take one look at it and request the police quit wasting his time. -

If ssxRicho has it correct, I'd fight the fcuk out of it. Failure to give way to someone using a left hand turn lane to undertake? Fcuk that. "He was in the left hand turn lane so it was fair to assume he was turning left, your Honor." "He may or may not have been indicating, I cannot recall." "He was travelling so fast, which as you would agree when a car is travelling directly towards you can be very difficult to judge, that by the time I realised he was travelling straight through rather than turning left, he was on me." "If everyone was expected to sit there and only pull out once the lefthand turn lane was empty, then no traffic would EVER have the opportunity to turn. The lefthand turn lane is always busy so you must assume that cars are using it legally, unlike the gentleman who hit me."
