  1. I know one of the head designers at Ford and he is a very, very cluey person. Ford's region desing centers recruit from the absolute cream of the crop. And find someone who works on the Prod line in Broady or Geelong and ask them what they think of working for Ford. Then find someone who works for Holden and ask them what it's like working for Holden. I can tell you know the Ford employee will likely have nothing but good things to say about the conditions they work under and the treatment they receive. The Holden person will likely report almost the exact opposite. They has a large effect on the quality of the product. And Ford actually has a good reputation in their price bracket. Holden have a good rep too, just not as quality as Ford. At the end of the day you get a shit load OF CAR FOR $50 in either a Commodore or Falcon, but the Falcons are generally a more robust proposition.
  2. Yay for the po-po! So yesterday I had some clown sideswpie me in Ivanhoe. I was in the left lane (clearway times) he was in teh right. He decided to pull over and park, not realising there was a clearway, and next thing I know he's into the side of me, despite my attempts to avoid him. Anyway, he ripped off my bumper bar and ripped out the right headlight. Not too bad and he admitted fault, so we move on. And here's where the real problem started. I was going to catch the train today, it's a 10 minute walk but I didn't get out of the house until about 5 mins before the train left. I didn't want to miss my train as being in Hurstbridge means 45 minutes between trains so I drove. It's aroun 1.5kms from my place to the train statio, so no biggie. Or so I thought. I get back to the station tonight and I had a pressie waiting for me. A Defect Notice stuck to my side window. Scum bags. I need two rear tyres, the bar put back on and headlight back in, which is fair enough and is getting done tomorrow anyway. However the f**kers have deemed a roadworthy necessary which means I'm in a world of shit. I've got a week to get my hands on an airbox and I'm probably going to get pinged for my windscreen too, which doesn't bother me. However if the person I take it to gets narky, as is the nature of modified cars, there's probably a million things they'll get me for. Any clues as to who may be a good person to take the car to in the north? Around South Morang, Epping kinda area? I'm not looking for a "dodgy" roady, but rather someone who will take the facts into account and do the right thing by me, which of course will be reciprocated.
  3. Did the quarter panel sell? If not, I'll grab it off you. I need a front bar, RHS head light and air box if you got em, too. I can come grab it tomorrow or sunday arvo if you're around.
  4. http://www.carsales.com.au/all-cars/privat...4&silo=1011 Or offer him $20k for this http://www.carsales.com.au/all-cars/privat...4&silo=1011
  5. It ain't that new. It's made on the same production line by the same brow beaten employees using the same materials. Try and find a production worker for Holden and one for Ford and ask them about the cultures at the two. I think you'll find their answers reflect the quality of their respective products.
  6. 370z any day. The Audi looks terrible and is indeed a hair dresser car. As for dynamics, I haven't driven either so take this how you will, but I'd find it difficult to believe there is too much separating the two. Oh, and have you ever heard a 370 at full song? What a glorious sound!
  7. I'd go the Ford for a number of reasons. The Primary reason is I've got a mate with a BA SII XR8 and one with a VZ SS ute. They get treated in very similar fashion, with the ute belonging to a sparky who never carries anything more than a drill and screwdriver set (he has a company work van). The Commodore is rooted. If feels loose, rattles and squeeks and just feels like a low rent car. The Falcon still feels almost new, even though it's done more k's and been in one major side impact crash and one minor rear end hit. The difference is chalk and cheese especially when you consider the life they have had. On top of that the Falcon looks better (of course this is subjective) and the engine is an absolute cracker. In time, the current Ford I6T motor will go down as one of the all time great motors and probably the greatest to ever come out of Australia. That said, the Commodore isn't a bad car, but IMO it does not stack up against the Falcon.
  8. I want to see which one protects the best, not makes the most power. Get 5 identical brand new motors (make it 6 and include Shell). Set them all up on an engine dyno and use a different oil in each. Run them for 3 days straight, drop oil. Run them again for 3 days straight through a varying load pattern, drop oil. Run them against the rev limiter for a full 24 hours, drop oil. Run them non stop for a week without an oil change, drop oil. Now pull down the motors and see which oil was the true champion. Also send off all oil samples for analysis see which ones retained their lube properties the best. That's a test I'd love to see.
  9. Not all of them. I'd say the majority were vomit inducing, but at least 3 of em were pretty nice.
  10. I'm more talking the whole "drop it in thursday and i'll do it then" and then I call up at 5 to 5 and they tell me they haven't got around to it and it'll be done tomorrow. I would never expect a "It'll be done by 11:30". But if I book it in 3 weeks in advance, am waiting out the front when your garage door rolls up the morning of the booked day, give you the keys and get out of your hair, how about letting me know that you haven't had the chance to do what you said you would ASAP so I can make alternative arrangements? It's not too much to ask. I know how workshops run, I've spent a great deal of time in and around them. It's not hard to figure out something isn't going to get finished on time so how about a simple phone call? And I agree that customers have a responsibility as well. They generally want everything done for nothing and they want it done yesterday. But that's pretty normal in just about every industry.
  11. Whereabouts can these bits be picked up from? Cheers, Aaron.
  12. Pop them in a box and mail them to me. Or you could take your car to mechanic and ask him nicely if he'll please put them on for you. A fee may or may not be involved.
  13. I agree. While a clean workshop is nice, I find the only ones which are spotless are your "by the book" chargers like Midas and Kmart, or ones who work on exotics and huge dollar stuff. There's nothing wrong with a grubby workshop as long as your car comes out the other side as you want and expect it, for a reasonable price and in a fair time frame. Doing good work, at a decent price, and letting you know what's happening if things aren't going to plan is all I ask. I understand that shit happens, but if you tell me that you'll have a my car/bike finished by a certain time, don't wait until I ring up 2 hours past that time to tell me that there's been a delay and it's not going to be ready. Nothing shits me more. Once you realise that the time frame won't be kept, call me and let me know. It's pure common courtesy and I won't get angry but it will give me more time to work out an alternative if I was relying on you to be finished on time.
  14. Thank Jebus it's a photochop (I think). That thing is an abomination. It needs fire, and lots of it.
  15. Count me in, my mate in his BA XR8 will be in for this too. Would it be possible to do it in a Go Kart?
  16. f**k off idiot. The law makes an ass of it's self every day. Why should an otherwise good person (making an assumption there) have to do time walking for such a petty and potentially unlawful reason? The day the law can be held in anything but compelte and utter comtempt is the day I will agree that if you don't want to do the time, don't do the crime.
  17. Just did a quote through Just Cars - $241 for 3rdP and $1241 for Full Comp with $12.5k value. Shannons Online quote system is shizen. I wouldn't use them purely cause they won't let you get a quote online.
  18. I'm surprised they gave you $19k. $1100 is nice though. Ahhh, sensible 4 doors. On another note, do what I do and just insure 3rd Party F&T and don't crash I wouldn't even know what companies would want to insure my car or bike. Been more than 15 years now without insurance and it's yet to be a problem. With what I've saved over those years I could write both my vehicles off tomorrow and I'd still be way out in front.
  19. This is why you should never roll over in cases where your punishment does not gut you crime. http://www.news.com.au/national/victim-tel...0-1225955702228 Magistrates make an add of the law all the time. Why should f**kwits like the guy in the article get off essentially scott free yet you have to cop a suspension for going over an arbitrary figure painted on s sign? Try and have it withdrawn on the basis of two cars in the shot. If that doesn't work, take it as far as your wallet allows.
  20. I've done clutches on about half a dozen cars and I found my R33 to be the easiest of the bunch. I had a mate helping who is a mechanic and he's done about a million cluthces. He also said it was the easiest he's ever done. Bolts are easy to get to, exhaust easy to get out the way, stick comes out easy and box falls away easy. There's nothing at all special about done a 33 clutch.
  21. It doesn't work to Vic. But do your license in one state and you're done in every state.
  22. Wrooooong. Points do transfer. Lose license in Vic and they will inform every other state and you'll be done there too. In fact, interestingly, if you get done in Vic for say 8ks over, which is a $110ish fine and 1 point, once the RTA gets wind of it it becomes 3 points.
  23. Bet your seatbelt/harness held tho Also, as far as a loan helmet goes, personally I would never lend someone my helmet. Helmets mould to the shape of your head over time and even 10 mintues on the head of someone else can compact the foam in the wrong spots which in turn will usually cause the helmet to loosen. I wear a helmet every day and I get pissy even when someone else tries to put it on when mucking around. Comfort and fit is important and having someone else put it on is a fast track to ruining a helmet.
  24. Go to a bike shop and grab a KBC for $150. Or something like their open face helmet. Your face won't hit the steering wheel, and if it does, having an open face is the least of your problems. If it does, it's likely the steering wheel has come back to give you a love tap and you've been cut in half at the hips by the firewall anyway.
  25. All helmets must meet a minimum standard. TBH, most helmets will all work the same. The big difference will be in the weight, quality of liner, looks and vent design which, in reality, won't make any noticeable difference in your situation. If you were doing 50 laps of a track at full noise, or riding a motorbike it would, but a DECA day or typical track day, it won't matter. Grab a cheapo from your local bike store. It'll do everything you need and then some.
