I have sympathy for Troy, but surely being an experienced racer he would have been aware of the possibility that something could go tragically wrong??? Don't forget, we are talking about the loss of 6 lives - how would YOU feel if it was your child/ sibling/ partner that died? It is not just Troy that should be held accountable and facing the consequences - but he, like anyone in this situation must be responsible for their actions...

Rhys Get your base timing checked. has the timing belt been changed? could possibly be that it was not put back on correctly (i.e. is out by a tooth or two).

Johnny That first pic is of a set of M's - exactly the same as I have on my GTR. Fantastic induction note, great bellmount design and look great. Good thing is you can get K&N replacement filters for them cheap. I have enslosed mine and included a perspex lid for the best performance and visual appeal.

sounds like your base timing is out. could be that the belt was a tooth out originally and now the gears have made that worse. I know what you mean re the BOV's as I had the same issue - exhaust timing was out. find TDC, then see what your cams are doing.

LOL - Excedy HD WON"T last that long. I've got one in my GTR, only done about 2,000km and it slips if I launch hard. car was last dyno'd at 300rwkw when running lower boost, so i don't think they will handle it.

I think it might have something to do with the TPS. or even the timing.

G'day mate hard thing is that a lot of good coolers are now available for cheap prices. Yes, your trust is a good unit and originally would have pulled good coin. I'd say you could possibly get $800 if it's in reasonable condition they were about $1500 new. truth is most people don't need a huge expensive IC for anything under 450rwkw good luck mate

depends on what your needs are. both are going to be easy to live with daily and huge fun on the track on stock to mild form - which won't cost you a lot of dosh. Do you need 4 door? what do you prefer styling/ comfort wise? afterall, you have to live with the car, not everyone else here... have you checked insurance? I'd say that most drivers only need that sort of level + when you start to go to crazy with mods it is no longer good to live with daily. ECU, Pump, injectors and turbos on the GTR will see 300 at the wheels - this is heaps for daily and the odd track run. I reckon some nifty shopping can get the parts with change for $3.5k (even the stock exhaust will do). evo you will spend about 1k less from my (limited) knowledge. check out the evo forums for more detail.

Fox Is it leaking oil? (check where you park) as a car burning oil is very noticable! blue smoke how many km's since the last service to use 5l of oil? black smoke is a rich mixture, not particually worrysome. can't have blowby when it is returning good PSI readings. exhaust leak near the cam cover can only be the exhaust manifold - not an engine threating condition... PM me who you are dealing with.

get a nismo/ sard/ HKS replacement. I've got a nismo that you can have cheap if intersted? what reg are you using? make sure your electrical fittings are all tightly closed for the splitfire wiriing harness.

my mate was considering the EVO, but decided it was too povo pack inside (it is a based on the 17k lancer...) if going a lancer, the evo 8 is the one to get as it has better handling over the 6 & 7 (yes, he drove all and did a lot of review work...) decided to buy an Audi S4 instead. essentially, both are very different cars - EVO fun point to point & chuckable, but without the appeal of the GTR. I've driven some evos, but would still go the GTR for using DD and track car. drive both.

tom - what are you referrign to as 'smoke screen feature'? hopefully its just the rich factory tune you are referring to? really no need to reset your ECU again. sounds like yours is bog stock anyway.

have you spoken to the original builder about it usign oil? that would be the first thing to do. discuss the result of the compression test with them. Also 1. I would not be paying 4.5 - 6k for them to replace oil rings 2. oil rings do nothing for compression, so I don't know where they get that idea 3. not a place I would go back to. does the car blow any blue smoke on acceleration / deacceleration/ initial startup? Better off getting a LEAK DOWN TEST, more useful than the compression test. unless the engine is pinging heaps/ burning LOADS of oil or making a lot of noise, I can't see any reason from what you describe why you couldn't drive the car...

don't bother with the ceremetalic - won't last long if you drive hard. best off taking the plunge on the Jim Berry clutch. $350 is reasonable for a GTR box clutch fitment. not a 10 hr job if you know what you are doing...
