The Clutch Thread - FEEDBACK PLEASE
ferni replied to raist60's topic in Suspension, braking, tyres and drivetrain
Sydneykid - how much are they worth? what kind of power do they handle? What would you recommend for my 33GTR with about 270kw @wheels? I have a heavy duty excedy and it shudders sometimes when taking off slow tip for those with these clutches: when taking off slow try to give it as little rpm as possible, i find this helps stop the shudder, when you give it a few too many revs, (not launching) it shudders. -
sidewaymambo - do you mind if i ask you a few details? What spacers did you get? how much did they space your wheels by? have you noticed any difference in driving/handling? how much did they cost you? is it as simple as just taking your wheel off, bolting the spacer in, then bolting your wheel back on? do you have any before/after photos of your car? THanks

If they are bolted to your hub then they aren't illegal as far as i know... only the ones that sit loose are dangerous/illegal?? I have R34 GTR wheels on my 33GTR and recon it would look alot better with spacers... i love these wheels and dont want another set - so what else could i do besides spacers? Anyone got any?

Blade - would you be able to take a photo of the road with your lights shining on it at night? and also against a garage door / some kind of wall?

Why you should pay attention while driving...

I always try to be curtious to bike riders, ie move to let them by if they are trying to pass inbetween cars etc... They have enough trouble keeping on the road without careless drivers -

Where are you located? Interested in having a look/listen at some of your audio stuff - mainly your bostons and your subs... How old is the G-tech? My mate has an older one - probbaly 4 years old, what does yours do? -
Guilty - don't feel stupid - chances are if your friends won't teach/tell you they probbaly don't know what it is.. Tip: Do a google search Taken from: http://www.triumphspitfire.com/healtoe.html Double Clutching First of all let's deal with the "double declutching " issue. This is really only the British term for 'double clutching' and makes reference in some way I suppose, to the fact that it is usually a downshifting maneuver in disengaging the clutch. The first stage in a full 'heel and toe' gear change is the simple use of double clutching. On its own this is a fairly simple little dance of the toes and it goes like this: 1. You are driving along in your TR, MG or whatever in third gear for example, approaching a corner and preparing to shift to second. You brake with the left edge of the ball of your right foot as usual. 2. Depressing the clutch with your left foot the shift lever passes through neutral as this happens you release the clutch pedal out again half way, thus setting the mechanics of the clutch assembly in motion again. 3. Then fully depress the clutch to complete your shift into second. That my friends is a double declutching. It might sound odd in print but is quite simple in action. Practice it in the driveway, with the engine off so you don't hit anything. The aim is to keep the engine and the clutch plates turning at the same speed for the moment when they engage themselves. Your car will thank you especially if you have an older vehicle that lacks effective synchromesh.

Gtr With Stock Turbo's 1/4 Times--be Real.
ferni replied to ricknismo's topic in Engines & Forced Induction
I will My car has about 270kw at the wheels...(stock turbos) with a g-tech my best run is a 4.3 0-100 12.4 1/4 mile this was with a passenger, wheel/clutch slip and 3/4 tank of fuel... plus its a g-tech no idea how accuriate or non-accuriate it is... i have adjustable cam gears, full exaust, stock airbox ... running 1 bar boost I'll be very happy if with this setup i can get a time slip that starts with an 11 My tyres are crap - 245/40/18... falkens can't remember what model but they are pretty low end - came with the car, need to wear them out so i can buy something a bit stickier Tips on launching/shifting with a GTR would be much appreciated SHould i be trying to shift as quick as possible? or consentrate more on smoothness? should i be keeping the gas down a touch as i shift? -
Ohlins users please!
ferni replied to AtomicBomberMan's topic in Suspension, braking, tyres and drivetrain
I believe i have the coilovers pictured on the first post of this thread... - anyone know the model ( i know they are ohlins ) or how much they are worth? Can i add a EDFC to them so i can adjust them from in cabin? For what its worth i think they are pretty good - my ride definatly isn't too rough or to soft, but i'm not to sure what they are set to. -
I have Olins full adjustable coilovers on my 33GTR, not sure how hard/soft it is set to at the moment but its a pretty decent ride - not to hard not to soft, so im hoping its midway on the setting This EDFC interests me - how much was it - how hard was it to install?

This is now sold -
116mph does seem slow for a 1/4 mile... but im not expert - you got the 11 sec figure so its all good I have been trying a few G-tech runs to try to figure out how to launch/shift with my car... Best was 12.4@191kms/h (119mph)... but that was an average launch with wheel spin and a bit of clutch slip... (hence why i still need more practice launching)... (this was with a passenger and 3/4 tank of fuel) I'm hoping to get into the 11's - i'll be happy if i can....

Yeah i thought i was bad only getting 300-350 out of my GTR running rich pushing 270rwkw I don't feel so bad now

My best one so far (only had the car for 3-4weeks)... Some guy in say his early 30's driving a brand new e46 330 weaving in and out of traffic down a dual lane road, so I gave it a bit of squirt and caught him... both of us have our windows down... the lights turn red, (at the point imp thanking god for the red light we both stop - it goes to 1 lane right after the lights.. he looks across to me and says something like 'is that a milo tin back there' or something like that (about my exhaust) so I look back out and eye his car for a second and say 'you couldn't afford the M3 mate?' hahaha he didn't like that.. lights turned green - he floored it heard his wheels chirp as he took off - I didn't bother launching, just took off as he was about 2 car lengths or so in front of me he sticks his hand out the window as to say 'what's going on' - then boost kicked in I wish I could of seen the look on his face as I snapped 2nd past him and left him for dead That arrogant dick got put in his place

I have fuel cards for mobil and bp, which is good because i've heard optimax is rated between 95-98, where as synergy 8000 and bp ultimate are actually 98ron? I will use either bp ult or syn8000, mainly mobil around where i live so thats what gets used mainly.
