Poor Dean.

I hear you, Its interesting that in NT you dont need to have a car emission tested if you bolt on a bigger turbo, not sure about blowers - they probably work on the theory that if the car ran correctly measuring from an AFM then it wont change the emissions - just a shame that these ignorant selfimportant poor excuses for public servants dont wake up. When I asked the guy who told me about the IM240 test if the applicable ADRs for modified vehicles were available for me to look at anywhere he told me that they were too indepth and I wouldnt be able to read them anyway - all that says to me is that he didnt have a clue how to read them. I asked if there were any guides to modifying vehicles as NSW also sell comprehensive guides to making sure that suspension complies, with the idea being that it saves you time an money. He told me to do the mods and then they will have a look at them - taxpayers money hard at work - I really hate totally unprofessional people - only in the public sector would an idiot like this be able to get away with it. I do agree with you though 9krpm, why should we have to prove that the car complies with emissions - if they cant prove we are breaking the law, why punish us? Hippy, your partner is a lawyer? Perhaps you could ask her to do some research into civil liberties, or ask her for pointers on where to look?

Thanks Dean, unfortuneately they have removed their washer bottle and only seem to have a catch can - which I think is going to be the only way, just hoping someone else out there that has fitted a washer bottle? Must be someone.

GTR pumps will support 250rwkw, but are a bit pricey when you consider that for the cost of a second hand unit you can buy a new bosch pump. 044 will cost about $400 or less, but require a bit of messing around to fit, not too bad but would be expensive to pay someone else to fit and make sure you have all the parts because some of the connectors can be a bit hard to source. Bosch also do intank pumps that would flow as much as a gtr pump for alot cheaper, ie 250-300 mark, but I think it would be better for someone who has fitted one of these to explain it like Rob77. Apparently alot easier than the 044 to fit. For under $200 you can get an adjustable ruel pressure reg from japan that will fit in the stock position and look stock, such as Nismo. They have an adjustment bolt on the top. They will also do the job. Some food for thought, BOOSTD has over 260rwkw with a bigger fuel pump and stock injectors but stock fuel pressure reg, so it may not be necessary to upgrade both, depending on what power you are chasing. But definately do the pump at least.

Hi all, I have my car in at the moment getting a new plenum fitted. The guys doing it doubt that it will be possible to plumb the plenum up to the cooler without either modifying the window washer bottle or replacing it with a custom one. Anybody out there got photos of the trust plenum fitted to an R33, or have fitted one without having to mod the washer bottle? Alternately, anybody have any hints on modding the washer bottle so it doesnt look like a back yard job? Cheers Steve

Oxford street $5 whore version - a bit more like it:)

Just had a thought, isnt Japanese voltage 115? could make it interesting for those who import direct.

I had mine made up by a fabrication shop here in adeliade. I would imagine pirtek or enzed make them too, or you could try a local performance shop. Prices seem to vary from around $400 to over $600.

lighten up a bit, he did give you good advice, better than no advice - I can think of two people now who probably wont be too ready to answer any more of your questions.

I know a guy who fits that description

Sounds sweet, make sure you post up the results:)

Could also be useful for someone if their hand rejects them

Well there have been miriad sex toys around for women for a long time, but I think they could of at least put nail polish on that one so you dont accidentally look down and think its a bloke! Could be just the thing for amputees and people with arthritis or injuries - they should be available under the medicare scheme for guys if they break their arms 'therepeutic device rental rebate'

Should i install a lightened flywheel
Steve replied to a topic in Suspension, braking, tyres and drivetrain
What the???? You are quoting an article about a touring car with an aluminium flywheel, that requires to be shimmed up every race to maintain contact, with a street driveable alloy flywheel that is designed to not need shimming??? you also stated "For piece of mind, billet alloy flywheels weigh in at less than 1 kg." I didnt see that anywhere in the article no reference to billet or to alloy or to 1kg. In case you havent noticed, this thread is about lightened flywheels for a skyline - find one that is available in alloy under 1kg designed for use on the street - you wont. Ogura is the lightest I have seen, and it weighs 4.8kg. -
Plugs can cause pinging if they foul, the carbon holds alot of heat. My 7 heat range plugs foul quite quickly in city traffic, it takes a gentle high rpm, low/medium load blast to clean them up before I can put my foot in or else it pings.

cyrius, is the emissions test an IM240? cos that is what regency require, or at least thats what the guy I spoke to told me - you never know with that place, ask someone different and you will get a different answer every time. Basically, I am trying to find a place in SA that regency will accept an emissions test for so I dont have to go to NSW, but with the rediculous price that Mits charge, its just so much cheaper to take a trip to NSW and get it done for free - plus they tell you where the car failed in NSW so you can rectify any shortcomings. I just cant figure how it is helping anyone by charging so much money for a pass/fail test, and they say its in the interest of the environment - bullshit, if they were truely interested in the environment, and making cars safe on the road, they would make engineering and emissions testing something anybody could get done, ie affordable, just like they do in every other state in aust - this place is a bloody joke Sorry, /rant.

When is the turbo going on? Looks like mine will be good to go at the end of the week, hopefully tuned the week after. Was it recommended that you use the 0.82? I went the 0.87 purely because HKS sell the RB25 kit with that housing, so hopefully it will do the job nicely, fingers crossed cos the housings by themselves new are not cheap.

Camshaft selection (RB25DE head/RB30 bottom)
Steve replied to InterC00l's topic in Engines & Forced Induction
RB25DE from R32 does not have NVCS, from R33 it does. If you want solid lifters and no NVCS, why not just use an RB26 head on your 3L bottom end. Probably easier and cheaper, plus you get the nice 6 throttle body plenum. RB cams/NVCS specs are here: http://www.tomei-p.co.jp/_2003web-catalogu...haft-specs.html -
Well the last time I flushed a radiator I used 100% coolant, purely for its non corrosive nature, I dont know if it would make a huge difference to the ability of the radiator to exhange heat - in I doubt it very much. I was under the impression that coolant served two purposes, to extend the boiling point of water and inhibit corrosion.

All skylines have an intercooler, GTR came with a bigger one than the GTS is all:) Didnt the guy who sold you the car tell you that cooler was standard???????

Camshaft selection (RB25DE head/RB30 bottom)
Steve replied to InterC00l's topic in Engines & Forced Induction
Hi, might be able to help with a couple of things, HKS step one cams are compatible with NVCS, and will bolt straight up without any mods to the heads. I am having fitted 256/8.8mm in and 264/9.0mm exh (both step one), which appears to be a good combo for the street and track, also will be fitting an adj exh cam gear to dial it in. If you want to retain the NVCS, you cannot fit an adjustable cam gear to the inlet side. HKS cams can be bought through www.greenline.jp at quite reasonable prices, but the us has HKS dealers, cant they order them in for you? Sorry about part numbers, my cam boxes are in the workshop as my cams are being fitted and I am at home. I will try to remeber to get them next time I am down there. RB26 cams are not compatible with NVCS also they are solid lifter, RB25 is hydraulic. RB20 cams - I know nothing:). -
Power FC knock detection update. I just had a look at my pistons (head is off), and the things look almost new (except they are black of course). 60,000kms on the clock and they are pristine (also the bores are perfect with no lip, and the chambers look spot on too) absolutely not one sign of any detonation at all. In the past I have had knock readings as high as 98, but always backed off as soon as the check engine light has flashed. I know this isnt a quantifyable example, but at least I know its doing its job, so I am happy. And for all you wolf, microtech etc guys that dont have in built knock detection, I would go out and spend the 200 odd dollars to buy one:D cant hurt.

Dont know if they are irridiums or not, but an 8 heat range is pretty cold. Has the car been retuned?

Hi, yeah the plate is the core id plate - so you know what the turbo is. that boost seems a bit later than mine, which starts around 2400 and makes 1 bar at around 3k, I am not sure where it makes 1.2 bar, which is the highest setting I have tried, becuase I was just loosing way too much traction and it was getting a bit dangerous on the road when the back end steps out at 100kmh in traffic, that was using light throttle - sounds like you will get a taste when you pick up the 4000rpm range AF ratios. The boost his so hard (with the 0.61) it was like using Nitrous, the torque and power lines were almost vertical at that point on the dyno. It was just plane crazy.
