Clutch for 250rwkw?
Steve replied to Cool Hand Luke's topic in Suspension, braking, tyres and drivetrain
Thanks for the reply. I just noticed I put the wrong turbo on the post. I am acutally doing a very similar build with a HKS 3037S so I think thats why I put the wrong one down (edited:)). Congrats on the time - into the 11s with street tyres awesome! Also good to see someone sticking with stock internals and making such good power. Seems so many people here dont think it can be done safely, when all they need to do is look to the birthplace of the skyline. My head gasket and cams arrive on friday:) Once again welcome to the forums, good to see you here. -
Clutch for 250rwkw?

Hi benhpi and welcome to the forums:) If you dont mind, could you tell me what the turbo is like with such a large turbine AR on a 2.5L? (this is assuming you are the ben who has just fitted a GT30 turbo in HPI mag - great read by the way, never miss it:D) -

Hi Paul:D Hows the internals going? Note to self - stop whoring Sorry, I just couldnt help it:) -
RNS11Z, good luck. It will be an interesting read

Like these? GTR offset, but with a bit of massaging - sweet:D

Depends on what it is. What were you planning?

I think you will find that HKS compressor covers and turbine covers, whilst being manufactured by garrett, are acutally to HKS designed castings. A very clear example of this is the 'S' spec turbos (eg 3037S) - have a close look at the inducer. Also a genuine HKS housing will have HKS on it - so no chance of confusion. Unfortunately, I have never had the opportunity to compare HKS and garrett housings side by side, but by virtue of the fact that a HKS turbo will keep making good power at 1.5-1.7+bar, which is not likely to happen in a garrett turbo, perhaps there is alot more to it than just a compressor wheel?

You can also buy second hand in good condition for less than 1200. I got one (not sprung) and it drives fine:) but I cant compare to sprung:( - new I think you are looking at up to 3.5K. -
RS500, to address the points you made: i) I know a guy who picked up a HKS 2530 for $1200, doesnt happen often, but if you hunt around but you are right, you can buy a bush bearing turbo cheap, which is a good thing because some people may not have the budget, or want to spend the money on a BB turbo or HKS turbo - nothing wrong with that, and I dont really think it is part of the argument for/against HKS or BB turbos. I dont think you read my above post very carefully. HKS 2530 (rated by HKS at 320ps) made 230rwkw at 1.2 bar boost - that is 395bhp. I dont think that a turbo of this size is going to make an additional 75hp on .2bar (3psi) THEREFORE HKS UNDER RATE their turbos, not over rate them. Not the beauty of a HKS turbo is that it will just keep going, where a garrett will be at about its limit by now - HKS turbos reach their max efficiency at 1.5BAR + This means that a HKS 2530 at 1.2 bar will be able to make MORE than 395bhp - lets see a bush bearing or even ball bearing garrett garden variety turbo do that. My point is that while HKS are more expensive if you want the best you will have to pay that bit extra but like every thing else in cars - getting the most out of something, usually increases the price exponentially. ii) I just dont agree with that statement. iii) the engine was completely internally stock, no head work, cams etc ONLY FMIC, pod, 3" exhaust, fuel pressure and a fuel pump - This is exactly my point, if you have a very good turbo, not much else is needed. iv) how can you make such claims, have you driven your car or same type with the same mods, with a properly matched HKS or Garrett BB turbo? Until you do you will never know what you are missing - you are just fooling yourself. I really just dont know why people insist on trying to say that you can match (with many years experience you may come close) the massive amounts of R+D and the design propriety of a company that lives purely for high performance. This has only been possible because of the huge consumer market for these turbos in japan, litterally thousands of these turbos floating around in japan, how many cars in aust have turbos fitted? How many years, with access to the facilities that multi million dollar corporations provide, have people in australia had. RS 500, if you have managed to match a HKS turbo with a bush bearing turbo for performance, using standard off the shelf parts - you will be a very rich man. HKS would probably employ you.

Whacky Wheel question - pics required...
Steve replied to B-Man's topic in General Automotive Discussion
Well when I was looking for a set of wheels, I think I rang up several wheel places (ROH, Simmons, ANZ, etc.....) and I only found one wheel design that I liked that had even a close resemblance to dish as most of the places only had a couple of offsets to suit skyline and 17x8x9, unless I went for a custom made 3 piece - buying direct from japan would have been cheaper. -
Another question for ya JAPSIX, what sort of price would someone pay for a decent respray - something that will last if you know what I mean. Cheers Steve

Thanks for that:)

Ohlins users please!

I have ohlins too - excellent ride. Cannot fault them. -

Brendan have a look here: http://www.modifymycar.com/ a bit of fun anyways:) Rezz, you may not like those wheels, but by god I wish there were australian companies that made wheels with dish like that - you can keep the front bar though:D -
Please Explain....hehehe

So what exactly is the differnce between acrylic and 2-pak, and why is 2-pak superior?
-
Rob, you should just tell them its a pretend cooler that you bought off e-bay - for that tough look:D:D:D:D:D

That is good power, but I have seen better from a HKS turbo (2530 on RB20) so really unless you have both turbos on an identical car, the comparison proves nothing unfortunately. Where did you hear that HKS power ratings are over 1.3-1.4 bar. That would be interesting as I was under the impression that both garrett and hks rate the turbos at 1 bar? My evidence is the same HKS 2530 that I mentioned before. Now HKS rate this turbo at 320hp = 235kw. How is it then making over the rated power at 1.2 bar, ie 230rwkw or 290 engine kw (assuming 60kw drivetrain loss) or 395bhp which is 75 hp over what it is rated at, and it still hasnt reached the 1.3-1.4 + bar that you state is needed? I dont see why people have to knock a turbo just because they dont have one.

Kdawgboostin33 I havent done it myself yet (coming shortly) but I am hoping for in the range of 10-15rwkw +. Perhaps someone like sydneykid or rev210 would be better qualified to answer this one?
-
I would vote for anyone that ran under the premise of cleaning up the system. Unfortunately, it never works out like that. Eventually they all end up forgetting why they are there and become self serving. how hard is it to find some lame excuse for spending someone elses money? Not very.

Disconnect the battery, when the light in your boot is out, the ecu should be reset - worked in my R33.

How farking phat are those!!!! Pure sex on wheels:) I am not a greedy man, I just want one. Cheers for posting that link up, they are bloody awesome.:burnout:
-
I would be looking at perhaps an adj exhaust cam wheel, then save for a turbo:) Probbably better bang for your buck that way. Cams would be an improvement, but not nearly as dramatic as with a bigger/better turbo.

RB25DE Head Work = Less Boost Same Power?
Steve replied to Cubes's topic in Engines & Forced Induction
He didnt say. Was a bit vague/cagey about giving out info. Just kept saying that he couldnt really say how much it would cost me, I'd have to bring the car in. I got the impression that he didnt have much to do with headwork, or just didnt want to answer my questions. dont know the name of the guy I spoke to...ah well, might just stick with AED:) Only that way I gotta remove the head myself:(
