  1. Engine swap: I would recommend against it. The RB20 is a great engine, and loves to be thrashed. Teamed up with cooler, fuel pump, adj FPR, boost control and a fuel cut defender (or remap ecu) - you are ready to thrash. The RB20 absolutely rips with a HKS 2530 turbo or similar, enough for 220-230 rwkw, perfect. The RB20 is alot cheaper than the RB25 should you lunch it, another factor to consider. For the cost of RB25 and gearbox, you could have several RB20 engines, or pay for alot of mods to the R32. Its just plain more cost effective, and the RB20 works fine. If you dont beleive me, check Kelly Mckinnon, who competes in the Drift Aust rounds. As for balance, well of course it will change the balance. You may be able to sort the balance with the right sus, but it will never be as good as with the RB20 - why? ANY extra weight will have negative effects. Its not just about balance, a car that is lighter will have more effective power at the wheels, brake better, corner better, and most importantly, be better to control when drifting due to the reduced inertial. Your diff - change the centre, it will swap across. You could fit the 33 diff (I have a 33 diff in my S13), but the R32 centre uses 4.3:1 ratios, the 33 is 4.1 and therefore not as good for drift/midrange. Lastly, if you want an expert opinion, ring the guys of D1 Garage on 08 8294 1355, James had an RB20 powered cefiro that absolutey ripped with minimal mods, and took regualar (almost daily), long hard thrash sessions with no problem.
  2. I would love to know why your AF ratios are so lean, especially running stock ecu. It 'seems' like the ecu is pulling timing as the fuel leans out - which would make sense. Boost cut sounds pretty good too, but why only at 6000rpm? peak torque is closer to 4000rpm. For a stock ecu, it is making some good power.
  3. INASNT, I used to impress myself when I lit up the rears at 100kph, but only after the fear of an unwanted lane change had passed Bit of a fan of power oversteer nowadays though. Dorifto baby yeah
  4. timing can do amazing things, I am not sure, but if I had to guess, this is where I would say most of the tweaking would happen. Especially if you are trying to flatten the curve. Running a car overly rich may have a few unwanted side effects.
  5. another 2c worth, make sure you only have 98 ron fuel in the tank, then disconnect the battery for about 5 seconds and reconnect it. Also, when was the last time you changed your fuel filter?
  6. tuning boost curve - eliminating a sudden ramp onto boost that can sometimes see powers jump 1-200kw in a few hundred rpm.
  7. OH, and to eliminate unwanted wheelspin, rear camber arms, mechanical diff and a hicas lock do wonders, especially when teamed up with R type rubber.
  8. I was getting around 260rwkw with a 0.61 housing on a 3037S 56T at 1 bar with a very restrictive cat back. It was so restrictive that the car was struggling to make 300rwkw at higher boost. When boost hit, it was on/off at 3000rpm, so I even got massive spin in 4th gear at 100km/h at light throttle - made street driving quite scary at time (traffic). I changed to the 0.87 (bought from US for around 450-500AUD delivered) and a free flowing cat back - huge difference, made 280rwkw on 1.2bar with a very conservative tune. More aggressive tuning and around 22psi saw 320rwkw. EDIT: 1- 1.2 bar by 3800rpm(from memory), but with the ability to control the boost with the throttle. All done on 98ron pump fuel. Other mods, hks 256/264 cams, exhaust cam gear, manifold, trust plenum and the engine was decompressed with a hks 1.6mm head gasket to achieve 8.5:1 CR. From what I have seen though, hks turbos have different power delivery to plain garrett type, so not really a perfect comparison. Perhaps you could pm someone like freebaggin who runs the same turbo as yours???
  9. try a search in the RB30 conversion thread, I beleive sydneykid went into some detail of the different combos and what the CR would be, as did others
  10. Oh, and they are offering a free intercooler to the 100th person to register as a member on their forums - hmm, might have to knock up a few hotmail accounts
  11. Are we talking hold our breath, or next year ++++
  12. You tease!
  13. any more info on the track side of things? It would be sooooo good to have somewhere to go thrashing regularly.
  14. Then you would just need somewhere to drift it. Shame no one here lets people go thrashing - scared the cars might 'damage the track' - shame the tracks here are so much worse than the ones east that they get damaged. excuse sarcasm I suppose that will cause some problems too, for the series to compete over here, they need somewhere to drive, a good track which isnt hours drive from no where.
  15. Hi guys, I dont know if many of you are aware, but Drift Australia is the new national drift series that is now up and running. They have just put up a website http://www.driftaustralia.com.au/index.asp which is looking pretty damn good, it even has the dates of the comps and the dates of the telecasts - SBS are telecasting the comps :headspin: It appears that they are looking at getting a round going in WA, perhaps in 2006! Anyways, I encourage anybody who may be iterested in drift, to check out there site. Maybe one day, drift will start to get the support and recognition here that it does in the east. Can only hope.
  16. stormy, AFAIK permits include the car rego, so I would expect they are tranferable but I suggest you check with welshpool or some other for a difinitive answer.
  17. 0.08, is that 'all' she blew???? mitchy, have a look at your posts, saying 'my dad did xxxxxxx' and he's a copper, sounded like you were bragging, why mention he is a copper if its not relevant???? doesnt make sense. Also, you mention you have no family living here??? so your dad lives where??? If you try and remeber that other members can only judge by what you have written, you might find that your posts seem a little different in other peoples eyes. They certainly did to me. Not trying to be rude, but it sounded to me like you were a bit annoyed at being given a sticker in the first place, hell, if you had bald tyres, what do you expect. ANYTHING that makes a car look unroadworthy should receive attention, if you own a nice car that attracts attention, ie people look at it, coppers will look at it too. Just be grateful you got your extension, it sounds a little unreal to me that you would get any extension if your tyres are unroadworthy - I think you are very lucky, or perhaps, have friends in the right places. I am pretty sure the average guy wouldnt get such treatment.
  18. Pretty sure D1 Garage in SA would have one if you cant find one local, they had a few when I was over there last. might be worht a try, 08 8294 1355 If anybody knows of any skyline rears being dismantled, please let me know as I want to do a brake conversion on my sil80 cheers
  19. Morlock, Roy from C-red has a permit for his CF bonnet, has something to do with the date the vehicle was manufacutred and whether or not it predates the applicable ADRs. Kinda weird, the older a car is the more you can modify it. Defys logic IMHO, you can build a twin turbo V8 as long as its old enough its legal, but you cant do it to a modern car with better suspensions, brakes etc. ADRs certainly dont help make the streets safer in regards to vehicle modification, just encourages the modification of older cars. Sorry, starting to rant
  20. would you pm me a price on the parts I asked about
  21. How much for the rear brakes, discs, backing plates, uprights and hubs? cheers
  22. Interesting point there, I got off a traffic infringement years ago, as I told the officer he was wrong and I was willing to go to court. It was for going through a stop sign, he said I didnt stop. His partner had his back to me at the time and it was his word against mine, therefore insufficient proof??? not sure but bottom line was I didnt end up getting the fine. Interesting point being brought up here. With criminal law, you are innocent until proven guilty, with the road traffic act, you are guilty until you prove yourself innocent, be it being issued a fine or having your car defected and now, having your car confiscated too. Pretty handy really, if 'hooning' was a criminal offence, it would be a whole different story. Its interesting that they can use (or want to use) two peoples word against another to be done for hooning. Would make life interesting if two people had a grudge against another.
  23. Well if there are free jumpsuits involved, I'm in! hmmm jumpsuits  lol
  24. Personally I think there are far more important issues facing society today than if someone chirps their wheels, or even does a burnout. Not too many people adversely impacted by a bit of circle work. Having said that a time and place for everything. I think this law is a joke. I got done for getting my car sideways many years ago. Dangerous driving and got a yellow as well. The laws to tackle driving in a dangerous manner have been around for a long time. Another one, if I am not mistaken is creating excessive noise. It also carries a large fine and demerits. This seizing property thing is just plain reidiculous. There are enough thieving pricks out there without the government doing it as well. Its a shame they can build scate board tracks, build rec centres etc but no one has ever given thought to putting down a skid pan for people to play. Ah well, when I win lotto How do they take the car anyway? If a cop tried to pull me over, I would be tempted (not saying I would) to run because there is no way I would like to see my baby taken away. At least if it gets written off insurance would cover it. I know this sounds pretty bad, but lets admit it, not too many people drive a performance car because they like to drive sedately. So many ads for cars tout the wonderous 'exhilerating performance and handling' yet when you get it on the road.... Its just going too far IMHO. Total overkill. I will probably have to remove my mechanical diff if I ever want to be safe from this one.
