  1. I was trying to keep on topic as the question was really related to the fact that sometimes an engine builder often relies on many third parties to prep and check different components. Sometimes their assembly isn't to blame and all duty of care is taken. Sometimes customers bring their own parts or have their own ideas on setups which the work shops have no real r&d on which complicates things further. I, like a lot of people on here have a lot of exposure to these sort of scenarios for over 20 years and also remember the days when workshops had a setup with the r&d which just worked and you would go in and get it built. This held the workshops more accountable and they were happy to take the responsibility. Tuning is another complex issue where people go for retunes to another workshop and then get low numbers and then advertise that the workshop are crap tuners when it obvious that the original tune was a marketing tune rather than a good one. Or the scenario that someone comes for a dynotune and tells the workshop that he has a full forged engine and then the tuner pushes the engine at the request of the customer and the engine throws a rod, then the customer badmouths the workshop as I have seen an evo do with a supposably built engine but stock rods which went through the courts. Not making excuses for a blatant poor workmanship, but there are more than a few things that should be considered when naming and shaming. That's why its dangerous for a forum to entertain such a thread IMHO. Problem is for every truth there are many more untruths in this scene, and don't we all know it, and they eventually end up being workshop wars full of inaccuracies. My 2 cents anyway.
  2. Where did you get the block from Pete?
  3. There are 2 ways to measure when front wheels get engaged and by what amount, either a pressure gauge on the hydraulics or a volt meter on the solenoid wiring or both. That would be fairly accurate I think
  4. you need my y pipes.
  5. In saying that the first thing I noticed when changing to a 3.5 inch y pipe collector was how quick they spooled up in comparison. Quite a noticeable improvement from 3800 and had to adjust the ebc to stop a spike.
  6. They should be coming on a bit earlier, interested to see your AFR as they come on, I would say you might be a bit rich as you come on boost hence the slight dip and delay.
  7. Well maybe the mufflers are stuffed. Would be good to drop the mufflers and see how much earlier the turbos come on.
  8. Not sure how the twins behave but 3.5 inch single has done the job many times over. Piggaz said they are restrictive so I assume they are.
  9. It sounds like the symptoms of restriction. Just get a y pipe with a 3.5 inch collector and run a full 3.5inch straight through. More than enough for a stock motor running 5s. But I think I said that on page 1.
  10. So y can't u run more boost
  11. So what exhaust have you got? Did he adjust ur cams? Have you got a boost controller?
  12. Got the turbos boxed up and ready to go. Make an offer.
  13. Nah just a freshen up. Comp test showed one cylinder a bit down so changed the head gasket as it failed near cylinder 2-3. Otherwise engine was perfect. While at it i changed the rings and bearings, not that i needed to.I think a bad batch of fuel did it to me about 6 months ago as after a fill up and a thrashing I could hear a bit of det at low rpm. Maybe the timing was also scattering a bit up top, because I have a bit of an issue now, don't know. As for the turbo being blowy, just getting some oil in the bov piping, so front seal I assume. I was told the -4 feed would be ok without a restrictor, then spoke to rotormaster an they said 1mm restrictor minimum because i assume my engine will make at least 7 bar at full noise. Most of the garretts need about 7psi minimum and 40 psi max or they blow oil through the seals. Seemed to have settled it down with the 1mm restrictor but may need to go 0.8mm as still getting a bit of a puff of oil, but that may be just a bit of oil left in the piping. One of the guys I know had to run a -3 with a 0.8 restrictor to solve his issues. They were the issues anyway.
  14. No not yet. Had a couple of niggly issues so just want to sort them out before the full tune. A bit of timing scatter after the engine freshen up, so looking at options. Your 83/74 looks awesome BTW.
  15. Great. Thanks for the info mate. Exactly the info I was looking for. Was it a garrett or hks? Cheers.
  16. I love the zed. So you are talking to the wrong person. If the car is good and engine is healthy just drive it as is. If later on you want to change the turbo, its just a bolt on and a tune I suppose. Don't stress too much just make sure the engine is up to scratch and get a pre-purchase inspection from a reputable Gtr mechanic.
  17. Hey mate. Did you run restrictor s in you oil feed? What size line and what restrictor. Cheers.
  18. Firstly, is it a stock engine, has it got cams etc. Will make a difference. Is the turbo t3 or t4 split, does make a difference. .84 rears will make 400+ on 98 so a 0.7 should be there about on e85. Need to see the supporting mods too like dump, exhaust, intake etc. Also injectors may be maxing out so limits things. Boost wise, it should be higher on e85 if the other things can cope. So you need to find out that info. Dyno should show power ramping from 3800ish with a 0.7 rear and within about 15% of its max as the graph starts to flatten. But by that time things happen very quickly so you probably won't even care. 6262 are very good.
  19. What size feed are you running, I am thinking maybe my -4 is to big
  20. Looks awesome mate.
  21. I know its an old thread but I have a question with anyone that are or were running TO4Zs. I am finding mine a bit oil blowy with a 1mm restrictor in a -4 oil feed line. Anyone have any issues running a 0.8mm or less restrictor. I am still on a run in tune with a 5k limiter and pushing 5+ bar engine oil pressure, so thinking might have to reduce the flow even more seeing that the zeds don't like anymore than 3 bar in their feed line. Any wisdom would be much appreciated.
  22. Its all worth it for that one month a year that they run perfectly. Just ignore the other 11 months of the year that they don't.
