  1. Agreed with everything you have said, and you can set up a 26 correctly for response as you have suggested which does make it quite capable around a track. And I am not suggesting that you cant break the driveline...but you are far less likely than an engine with more than double the torque down low applying so much more force to the driveline to overcome vehicle inertia, so you cant use a $700 gearbox like I can. look at the guys running v8s or vls or xr6Ts, they are always twisting drive shafts and breaking diffs if they hook up especially now with G6s they are ripping out the zf gearboxes and putting stalled T400s in them and only making 450 kw but the torque is huge. My view is that if your the average jo bo that wants a gtr as a good reliable allrounder, with spending $25k you can have a well sorted 350kw responsive 26 setup with decent handling upgrades that you can drive at the track and drive everyday. Can I ask you what gearbox are you using now and is your 34 significantly quicker than a 26 that has its handling well sorted, and is the 34 street driven regularly. dont know but they are always on .XKLABAwill probably be more accurate
  2. Never said it wasn't faster of course it is with the turbos always on but the torque also needs a lot more throttle control out of very slow corners. Other than that through all the faster stuff the corner speed and exit is all to do with chassis and suspension, and tyres didn't matter 26 or 30. But yes a big difference down low. Where you are pulling hard in 3rd you would be still be revving the 26 in 2nd.
  3. Both twins -5......what's your point
  4. Yes I have and a twin turbo lsx monaro with torque that would twist a house and multiple drag cars and evos and hi powered s14. All you hear with big up setups is all the positives you never hear of the head f**ks in the back ground nor all down time and rebuilds and money. Just do your own research if you don't believe me, and you will find that a well built rb26 GTR in the 350kw range with a good setup in the hand of someone who can drive is hard to beat on a track. Then drive it home and take it to work the next day, clutch, tranny and diffs all good. Each to their own though but if you are going build low down torque monsters you better have deep pockets.
  5. Gee don't get so angry. Fact is torque is what breaks the drive line doesn't matter what car you drive. If you have a higher lower end torque and high traction you will break stuff. So if you want a 26/30 be prepared, and that's why the most reliable gearbox with this setup is a t400 or powerglides. And with a smaller capacity shorter stroke engines with lower bottom end torque you are less likely to have these issues. and you comment with breaking gearboxes at high revs is untrue unless you are bouncing off the limiter or engine breaking at high speed or at the 8200 to 8400 rpm where the 26 block has inherent harmonics issues where if you hold it there you will shake the bottom end to pieces. And bigger capacity rbs have always had issues with gearboxes end of story. And as it has been proven over and over again an GTR with a built rb26 at 350kw with a well sorted handling package is hard to beat on the track and will do it with reliability time and time again. That's why I think 26/30 or strokers are an overkill and not the ideal overall package for the average daily street driven car that gets tracked once a month.
  6. Ha ha ha. ....you're all torque....ha ha ha
  7. Rb26 coil packs $100 Intercooler $100 CAS $150 Exhaust is available: $350 It is custom fit 3 inch system for a 33 GTR so it sits nice and high, not low like some of the aftermarket systems. The section from the cat to the rear flange is in mild steel and only 18 months old. The rear muffler section is stainless steel and original nismo calsonic as shown. The tail pipe is 4 inch chrome tip that may need polishing. Overall it is in excellent condition and recently been painted in heatproof paint. This system is good for 350kw. This is a very polite system when cruising with the high flow centre muffler and the nismo rear muffler, and gives a very nice note when you want it to. Make offers if interested want these out if my garage.
  8. Yeah that's all great but what gearbox is going to hold up with the extra torque. So factor in $12k for a box and a yearly cost of 2k+ for a dog. A well built 26 at 350 to 380kw is bullet proof shifting under 8200rpm and in the gtr's sweet spot for the drive line around the track for the smart driver. And if everything else in the setup is sorted not much will beat it in average speed and reliability. Plus 26s sound better too
  9. Wonder if you can get a longer 5th gear for cruising though..would have to be custom or will the 6th gear from the 34s fit.
  10. Yeah but I think the op is wanting response, so I assume he is talking about 2nd to 4th gear more than anything. And it would help keep the -5 on song especially in the tight stuff where you can't grab 1 but would like to.
  11. I was having a think about this lately as my second gearbox is rattling around a bit. I was thinking going shorter diff gears and maybe seeing if I could keep the stock 1-4 gears and going a longer 5th for cruising. Also triple plate clutches or high clamping force singles smash boxes so a nismo or the new organic twin plates seem to be more forgiving. Maybe an option to consider rather than a close ratio gearbox.
  12. Have the shafts been upgraded?
  13. You don't need power or bottom end torque to have a fantastic car. If you haven't got the cubes rev the dam things. Roy and dale, get some tissues ready. Alfa33 symphony
  14. Get a life f**kstick
  15. Now thats what i am talking about. what a sound, sheer perfection This is why I love my slow alfa so much. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2YIRhzKDamg
  16. Have you always been a f**kwit or is it just recent.
  17. He must have lost to Fonzie and Favio
  18. My mates 120y engine bay. Who needs an engine at all. Stroke this.
  19. Your right. Roy is on the money. I bet a well set up rb20 would tear strips off a garden variety 26 or 26/30. Takes a lot more than capacity to be a good track engine.... Plus it would sound better too
  20. Can you post up some pics. Thanks
  21. Sorry forgot something..... Plus it sounds better
  22. By my calculations it's 7000 to 7460.56712.
  23. Well said Roy but you forgot one major thing that is the most important thing to consider above all else...... 26s sound better.
  24. And who is saying torque is not important.....geez I am going to take my 70 kw alfa33 out for a trashing now just to prove to myself that...don't know but I am taking it out anyway....I know carbies are better than FI. Hopefully I can find a vl.
  25. Rb30 would kill it of course with the extra torque, but put both in there sweet spot the 26 cover a greater rev range in the same time if you had identical power and torque figures, which of course you dont. be interested to see this on a graph though.
