  1. thanx Knore.....the reason for the thread is because when I first installed my GFB boost control (and proper gauge) and adjusted for 9 psi the car felt incredible...almost too good, if u know what I mean? My new gauge and the stock one seem to 'concur', so i am relatively confident that my readings can't be too far off (safe, at least). But the last 3 days i've noticed that the beautiful pull i had (not that f*****) pull!!) has gone. I do not speed, but the car gave me a nice push in the seat from 2000rpm with half throttle...no stress at all by the motor/turbo. It was doing it easy. It could be the petrol i'm using (always 98), or the GFB has stopped bleeding air so it feels like a stocker again.. Power is still there when I push it, just not down low....which is only where I like it (i'm a 60 to 80 kmh driver). Maybe I'll just have to play around with the bleed screw again, or wait till the petrol runs out and re-fill with expensomax. These beautiful Sklines have their good and bad days, don't they. Maybe I'll do nuthin, as it'll sort itself out???
  2. thanx Jay, and thankyou Amaru.........that's exactly the expl. I was looking for! u guys rock. To those of you that have a proper after market mechanical Boost Gauge(BG), do you think that taking a reading from ur BG while idling, then switching off ur car and measuring the 'time' it takes to return to zero psi could be used as a leak indicator. for example...my car might idle with a neg 20 (PSI, please) on the dial then return to '0' within 1 or 2 seconds.....should it creep back up to '0' more slowly?.....or is that about right (compared to yours)...or........is that indicating a leak.....or.........just proving to you that I'm actually very stupid?? (be nice)
  3. Hi skliner's is there a test that can be done on my 33's induction piping to see if there are any leaks. What is this test specifically called. Can the test be done without running the motor (partially tested) is there a procedure my mechanic would use to check this......is there a procedure you guys use to check for a suspected 'leak in the system'? (saying "flooring it" probably won't be doing us any favours!!) anyways.....Thanks again.
  4. Hey JAS, that pic of a Skline rear, did you get that from this site? Just that it looks exactly the same as one I posted of my car (same angle, exposure etc)!! Enjoy!
  5. hey guys, not being smart here, but................. i too didn't quite appreciate the 'dashlight dimmer' control ever since I started driving (about 18 years ago). Anyway, when I started doing trips interstate that required a fair bit of night travel, where there were no street lights, towns, other cars to be seen for hours (on some highways), that's when that little dimmer became a beautiful accessory. DO YOU KNOW HOW GOD DAMN BLINDING YOUR DASHBOARD BECOMES ONCE YOUR EYES ARE ACLIMATISED TO DARKNESS. (go to sleep one nite next to ur mobile phone...should u get a call at 4 in the morning you will notice that those little LEDs can become very effective at pissing your eyeballs off!!)Your dash becomes something you want to cover with a jacket or piece of cardboard. It turns into a bitch at 3.30 in the morning when on the Newell Hwy and the dash is all you can see!! It's there to assist the long distance overnight driver. anyways........havagoodweekend!.......anyways!
  6. well explained Joel, makes sense (lower compression motor can handle more boost!!) "Depends on the tuner if the boost is safe or not. :)".....am I the 'tuner'. are you saying that it depends on common sense, constantly listening to the workings of the car and noting anything 'out of place' will keep Skline happy....and did I mention COMMON SENSE? thanx man 4 ur quick response!! mark.
  7. Hi Mcboost, look mate, i don't know if I can help with an answer, but maybe I can help u with the question....... tell us when it comes on, at what stage (warm up, idle, hot running, thrashing, really really thrashing it...etc) Is the car running differently when the light comes on......how long have you had the car and when did this ECU lamp start lighting up. Have u had the car serviced recently, or has a friend played around with the electrics/motor etc. Maybe a little more background will help the 'experienced guys' put that smile back on your face?? all the best, Mark (superspit)
  8. Hey Joel, what mods have you done to your engine internals to make it handle that boost. Don't tell me about the outboard stuff that made you get the extra boost, please tell me if you've had to do any engine 'strengthening" (?) I'm currently reading 10 spike 11 on my speco, with a totally stock motor.....do you reckon that's safe.? Thanx Mate.
  9. here here (or is that Hear Hear) No leaks that I can see on my late 95 GTSt, but my nose seems to find them. Well described Charly, that vapour looks hillarious pouring outadatank filler. Kinda glad I dion't smoke in my Skline.
  10. Things do get more 'rational' as you get older, you also tend to become bigger in size....... And, most importantly............... STAY AWAY FROM OTHER PEOPLE, no good can come from them.
  11. does a larger spark plug gap (as large as possible), necessarily equate to more power (noticeable power). We close our spark gaps to compensate for any extra boost, but are we effecting our car's power/effiency in other ways by doing this...(3 steps forward, 2 steps back???). Would it really be that nice if we could all get a set of Splitfire Coils Packs and run massive GAPS ?? (would we actually 'feel' the difference...I'm not interested in Dyno results that show a .0009% diff). Is that why there are such things as Splitfire's etc....because those in the 'know' realise that there are 'real' power advantages to be gained here. Or is this just another 'Peter Brock Crystal Polariser' thing. Keep in mind that my Skline, and probably yours, is a daily driver. Thankyou, I look forward to your thought!! Mark
  12. Thanx ant, I feel betterer now!! Mark
  13. Thanx Guys. I've already washed mine using mild dishwashing liquid, the crap that came out was incredible. I suppose there could have been traces of oil that made the water go black. But there was BITS in there too. I wonder where I could get a whole new foamy, just so I can start from scratch and be confident that I'm doing the right thing by my pony. Mark
  14. So, I guess I won't worry about it then. (ta VSPEC) But relying on the Dipstick and oil cap seal just to get a good, constant idle really 'erks'e me. The safety issue is valid too Zagan. Thanx Guys,
  15. So C, this only happens on r33's (turbo ones?)? My S13 Silvia, and mums Silvia don't do it. In fact, i've never seen this before, until tonite. What you're saying seems feasible though. Thankyou, I'm guessing you'll either get 'backing' on this by our fellow Skliner's.....or not. Thanx man.
  16. try this.....it could be just me. Take your OIL FILLER CAP OFF, does your car start to stall..(revs go up and down, then dies). Take my DIPSTICK OUT, and I lose 100 rpm on idle, and slight 'hunting' occurs. What's going on here. My little brother and I did the spark plug re-gap thing tonite on my 33 (.8mm to compensate for extra boost), and beautiful...no more missing, car runs well !!(idle was now at about 600rpm from 650 rpm before re-gapping) ....BUT, just to check the oil cap, i took it off and noticed the enging was going a little silly, then died. Re-started with cap back on...no problem. Took dipstick out, car immediatly dropped a little off idle speed!!!. Bro and I thought we'd put something back in wrong, or forgot a pipe etc..but all looked good. PLEASE....anybody experienced this?..the motor seems fine, other than this bulltish! Thans again. Mark
  17. Hi. a little off the subject, but.............is Enkei and Advanti one and the same? Mark
  18. thanx rhett, IF YOU DO FIND THE LOCALITY of a new 'foam piece", could u let me know, also, can I get this filter "oil" from any good auto shop, and, what brand would people suggest I use for this filter? Also, the foam in my filter has incredibly small holes in it, and it is double layered with '2 types' of foam' (green dense on outer, finer black on the inside) I'm not talking MICRON type holes, but they are indeed tiny. thanx again.
  19. Hi all again, Just changed my AEROTEK TRANPARENT BLUE air pod back to the pod that came with the car. I was told by Genisis Tuning that the Aerotek Pod was a dangerous unit (relied only on its 'mesh') to keep clean air. (It did look pretty though!!) As you can see, (I hope), that's the TRUST Foam unit in there somewhere,.........do I have to oil this one (I didn't think so?), or just wash it now and again? ............your thoughts. My AFM had to be serviced because of the Aerotek Pod I used. Idle instantly dropped to 650-700 rpm and was smoother. (was 900-1000) Thanx to everyone who helped me with my "spark gap/extra boost issue!!" Mark. PS..this is my actual car. (it's a standard 5 speeder)
  20. ahh yes.....Knore, this is making me feel better already....and ready for the weekend when I re-gap to compensate for my extra boost!! I am more than confident now of 33 running better than ever (no misfire) after I've gone to .8mm. Thankyou my virtual friend!
  21. Mannnnnnnnn!!!!!!!!!! Looks like I've just blown $100 plus on the Nissan Platinums!!! Thanks guys!!
